19:58 Doug, the only reason this car won't sell is if dealers continue with their criminal markups. Otherwise, these things will sell like crazy. Hyundai's N models are all at the top of my list, and I don't think I'm alone there. The Veloster N is finally a real hot hatch that's somewhat affordable, and the Kona N is the next best thing. All the fun but with a far more practical back half. Hyundai has clearly done some marketing research to find what people actually want. Enthusiasts have been chomping at the bit waiting for this car to finally hit the streets in the US for what feels like ages. Personally, as long as the dealers don't fuck everything up like they have been, this car will move off lots really quickly. This isn't something silly like a Nissan Juke Nismo RS that's so obscure that you can still find them for sale at fairly low prices despite this ridiculous market. These N cars are actually fun performance machines, not just economy cars with a body kit.

This was intended for Doug: Wait a minute... If I'm looking to buy a C8 Corvette (which is a new car, and retails around $70k) I can get it on your site for $25k OVER msrp, but AFTER it's been driven off the lot? Or if I'm looking for a 2022 CT5 Blacking (again, a new car) I can get it for like $50k, or $60k OVER msrp on your site! WOW, I'll be sure to go to your site, so I can pay damn near double msrp for a pre-owned new car, so the rich @$$-h0l3s who pre-order these new cars, without even having the money to pay for them, can gauge the prices and use the auction money to pay these cars off, then keep the difference, and make tens of thousands of dollars profit, by using your site to rip off stupid people??? I'll be sure to assist con artists in extracting money from stupid upper middle class douchebags, who are just trying to keep up with the Joneses, and watch the upper middle class burn their of the disposable income on a car that they're either going to wreck, or trade in or sell at a loss... While all ohf this prices young and up-and-coming enthusiasts out of the "enthusiast car" market... CARS & BIDS!, ruining it for everyone.. but getting already rich people even richer in the process! It's only partially dealers. A Cars & Bids seller just sold a $100k msrp Hummer 4 for more than double it's msrp, and they came out this month...

My wife, who has NEVER shown any interest in car-shopping even if she will be the principal driver, actually caught Kona N fever. We purchased "our" Sonic Blue Kona N on the last day of May: Told the salesman we weren't going to pay for any dealer add-ons or "market adjustment," just straight MSRP (which was more than fair). Doug, in general I love your reviews... but this has to be the most inaccurate, blatantly biased, and quite honestly, poorly executed review I've ever seen from you. "Nobody is going to track this". "It's not performance oriented as It only comes in an 8-speed DCT". "Pirelli P-Zeros are overkill for this car". WTF??? You literally sound like someone who has never reviewed a performance version of a standard car before. I would bet nearly 50% of buyers will at least take theirs to an autocross. Last time I checked every Ferrari and Lamborghini and McLaren for sale "only" comes in a DCT. And better tires ALWAYS make a car handle better. Quite frankly, you ought to consider taking this review down and re-doing it.
@apexcobra.official

Pzeros were overkill enough for me to take them off mine at 1k miles and replace them with significantly better and more track focused tires. Tons of people tracking these. Tons of tech and I slapped a JB4 on mine and it really amped up the fun factor X3! My local dealers can't get them and I had to drive 150 miles to get mine and put a deposit on it before it arrived. In case the relentless push of CUVs at the expense of virtually any other product offering wasn't proof enough that car culture is in a death spiral, we can add Hyundai's styling going to pot as icing on the cake. Their designs used to be handsome a few years back. Now they look like what you might get if you were to overdose a child on adderall and then tell them to draw a Lamborghini Countach with a box of crayons. 🙄

I’m looking at a 2023 kona N tomorrow, it’ll be red. Should I buy it? I’m planning on posting an entire video at the dealership/ after the purchase 🤠

As someone who works at Hyundai whenever we get one of these N cars they mostly sell quick because of high demand and really low inventory. It took a stick shift Veloster N in the light blue only two days to sell. They are highly desired special cars that I would honestly consider purchasing.

The Kona N is like the modern day Caliber SRT4 lol. In a crossover society, the Kona N makes sense 🤷♂️

18:50 What i'd like to see is a Kona N Pluigin Hybrid, with a 20kWh battery pack and 2x20kW motors driving the rear wheels You get some regenerative braking, you get the option to mostly use electric for driving around town until you put your foot in it. It would be great to have that extra 40HP, and option to sip gas.

-but offset by the weight of the motors an battery (which fits where exactly?) I think it would be a wash at best, though maybe the straight-line acceleration (which is alrady impressive) might improve a few tenths. It might be a better sell as a boost for fuel economy.

at this point just get the kona electric... handling doesn't change at all due to the battery lowering the center of gravity a lot... I have the electric and it's cheaper upfront as well as to run it and it's just as fun to drive with the plus (for some including myself) of no noise / vibration

@@kyriakos098 I dont like pure EVs because it is a waste, we could make 5x as many plugin hybrids that act as EVs 99% of the time meaning we can get more people behind the wheels of EVs with the same rare resources, also, you get the range of and simplicity of gas for road trips.
@denvera1g1

@@chrisvalleqatsi They make 50HP in wheel hub motors, and the battery pack would be much smaller than an EV battery, if you raised the load floor of the trunk by 3-4 inches depending on how much crumple zone you want around the battery. Edit: Wouldnt be a wash because most of the time you'd plug it into the wall and hardly use any gas at all on your daily drive to work, (gas only driving accessories like power steering and brakes and hard acceleration) except for long trips where yes, it would slightly hurt fuel economy on the highway/interstate like most hybrids in general(compared to the gas only variant) where the added weight doesnt make much of a difference, but it doesnt help either because you're usually not using regenerative braking. This is a welcome offset for most people because most people spend 90% of their driving within the range of the proposed battery pack(around 50 miles on a bad day)

"Crossover" with no ground clearance, as small as a hatchback, no offroading ability competing with 2 models who have the exact same drive train that are either roomier or slightly more compact. Won't sell. No stupid grey plastic body panels and instead they've color matched them: SELLING LIKE HOTCAKES. Please stop with the shitty grey plastic cladding. I'd seriously pay more for several car models just to remove that crap. Seems like others agree.

You are wrong , in Europe and the rest of the world there is many subcompact sport suvs like this , for exemple , Volkswagen t roc R.

The fact that a compact crossover (whatever it's classified as) from HYUNDAI has better performance than an STi, BRZ, and other sportier cars, is crazy. Hyundai has done a great job lately with their cars.

I really like all N cars. Still, my $27k gussied up economy grocery getter out performs this gimmicky Hyundai.
