@@vooswing'm guessing a buyout. Yeah, you're having to pay for 2 extra years, but next year's cap hit drops to $750k (saves over $4m) and 2 years out it's $2.25m (saves $2.75m). The two extra years have the same cap hit of $1.75m which isn't unmanageable. If not for the HUGE savings in the upcoming year, retaining salary might be a better option. But, let's face it, Vegas probably only has about a 2-year window past this season for true contention before guys start aging out and they start having to pay other guys (Marchessault/Stephenson come to mind). Saving cap space for next year to try to get Hill back, or to set the money aside for Barbashev (who should be the priority), is worth it imo. $1.75m isn't an anchor when Vegas finds cheap depth guys anyway.

Lehner's a buyout candidate at this point, which, with his legal issues, might be best: if he gets picked up by another team, he can double-dip for some funds. The Vegas front office has admitted a few times recently that they have no idea what's going on with him or his injury. He may even just be LTIRetired. Thompson is going to be The Guy, and Cassidy's system is very favorable to a plug-and-play goaltender so any backup will probably succeed. That said, they're going to try very hard to make Hill work. HOWEVER re-signing Hill cannot happen in Vegas if it's at the cost of signing Barbashev. That has to be the priority in the VGK FO.

Based on your board, it doesn't look like there's many team that are looking to buy goalies. Teams like Seattle and Florida who have, what have until this year, overpaid goalies now sort of have to commit to their goalies. Grubby played surprisingly well in the playoffs. He's still a platoon goalie at best, but his play this playoffs earn him the temporary starting job. I really think Fleury and Quick should retire. Mini should have kept Talbot. If Fleury retires, Mini is looking to buy a goalie. Buffalo is going to have to do something with their goalies, but what? Buffalo might want to seel one of theor young goalies to either of the New York teams, as both Varly and Halak are ancient by todays standards. I could see Ottawa shopping hard for a goalie, especially if Talbot wants out. Does Carolina really run Raanta and Andersen back again? I feel like they shouldn't. Columbus should be shopping hard for a goalie as well. I don't think Hart should go, unless HE wants out. I like what Philly got back for Provorov, but I think they'd be better off keeping him.

Korpisalo signs with LA and mäkiniemi gets tha backup role and you have a former Ilves goalie in every California team next season

I'm not so sure Korpisalo stays in LA. He had a great regular season after being traded to the Kings, but his play in the playoffs were not good. Kings do have the assets to make a trade for Carter Hart.

I really rate Levi an awful lot. I think he'll be the Sabres main guy going forwards and if they let him go, they can kiss their playoffs aspirations goodbye.

Woll is no longer waiver-exempt, so I don't see him getting another year in the minors, someone will absolutely claim him.

Shannon, forgive me for asking-as well as the rest of your listeners-as I doubt most would care one bit- but you skipped a few guys and I wondered if you think they are done-stick a fork in 'em-or could they find a second life in the coming season: Jonathan Quick (contract runs out after this season) and Jonathan Bernier (not sure if he's permanently on IR or still under contract)...thanks for mentioning Martin Jones, Jack Campbell & Adrian Kempe. rl*

If the Canucks are going to miss the playoffs again next year (as seems likely), they should consider trading Silovs and re-signing Martin. Martin is the BEST tank commander I've seen in YEARS.

I was expecting Spencer Knight to take over in net this year from Bob. Then I saw early on he didn't look so good. Then saw he was in rehab. Well that explains that, he's a pill popper. I would like to see the Panthers move on from that. Being in S FL and having addition issues isn't going to work out well. Temptation is on every street corner. Maybe a boring place like Buffalo would be better for him. Lyon looked good enough to be a backup. If Knight got his act together and someone wanted to take Bob's 10 million dollar contract for the 50th ranked Save Percentage and Goals against average in the NHL please do. 1 great game, 1 horrible game, 1 great game, 1 horrible game is not a 10 million dollar goalie. Would also like to see the Panthers trade away Ekblad while he still has some worth. He is injured again and is always injured. Montour out played him this year all year. Weegar out played him last year. If it wasn't for the salary cap then none of this would matter.

I would not be surprised if Korpisalo ends up back in Columbus. Theres the familiarity factor. But on top of that, Tarasov keeps having semi major injuries. That's a kid you want to get a full season in the minors so he can get his development and health in order. If they find a taker for Merzlikins, that clears a path for Korpisalo and another goalie to be brought in. If they don't move out Elvis, he and Korpisalo are best friends, so he'd likely welcome being on the same team again.

There just isn’t the quality of goaltending that we saw in the 90s, where starters would play 60-70 games, and be absolutely incredible. There were 20 superstar goalies in those days, who just stood out above the rest. Today you are hard pressed to point out a half a dozen.

I've had my doubts about Daccord being an NHL level goaltender, but he also hasn't had much of a chance outside a game here or there. If Jones is out and Dreidger isn't performing, I think Daccord should get a shot at least for a while as the backup.

Korpisalo played his way out of LA in game 4. Unless he’s willing to take like under 2 mil, basically a backup’s salary, he’s not coming back.

I personally think Zito will trade Bob around July 1st but it definetly wont go well for some fans. If Knight can get through this he can definetly be the starter.

For Philly too the goalie situation gets even murkier as there was the thought last year Fedotov would come over and play but the whole military thing and being detained. That should be ended though and he could come over for next season. With the regime change Idk if they still think that way though

Also Woll and Schmid looked like the real deal. Schmid stole that series against the Rangers. Woll looked like the best goalie in Toronto for as long as I can remember.
