@@lordmaster5522 There's a difference between a sports car and a performance car. A sports car can also be a performance car too, sure, but it doesn't have to, just like the Miata. Pretty sure if this was truly geared for premium performance like the Supra, it would've used the ZF DCT the Supra came with as well. But then it would also be much more expensive I'd imagine. Also, just because a sports car is slow doesn't guarantee that it's less fun. For most people, 300HP with a stick shift is more than enough.

I always think the fun to drive versus reliability and repair bill ratio that each car has. If this is nearly as good as most Toyota Corollas, this will break records in how much fun someone can have in a very reliable car. Sure, the Honda Civic R may have been great, but many people don't want a FWD car. The BRZ/86 might be a reliable RWD car, but many people would like a turbo engine. The VW Golf R may be loads of fun, but VW quality is hot or miss.

I am seeing The Hyundai N series cars giving The Corolla GR tough competition. I guess it will all come down to pricing. Yeah that "Mark Up" I wonder if Toyota will do what Chevy did to dealerships and say "We aren't sending you any new cars if you can't sell the ones you already have.". Honda went MT only with the Type R and it sell well so i don't think Toyota will give it auto anythime soon, to be fair modern MT are far better than old fashioned MT, not only the clutch is much lighter you also get auto rev match and anti stall system even in the standard corolla

"According to Best Car, an automatic transmission - likely a Toyota-Aisin eight-speed torque converter unit - will follow around two years after the initial release of the GR Corolla, which is expected to launch later in 2022". Sounds like 2024.

@@nonameyet2205 Yeah, I had to go full standealone on my Yaris to be able to properly work with it which is sad honestly. I was able to go Stage 2 for a fraction of the cost with my 19 GLI and Stage 1 for pennies with my 21 Tiguan.

The timing of the WRX STI’s death and the GR Corolla’s debut is just uncanny. Nevertheless, thank you Toyota for giving us this masterpiece of a car.

THANK GOD this car is coming out! I’m already sick of these KZitemrs hopping on the “fall in love with the GR86 trendy train”. It’s slow still! Move on with your lives already!…

Shut up with the "slow". That car is designed to teach you how to more effectively drive a RWD car.

Watch out WRX/Elantra N/Civic TypeR. If the pricing is below $35k it'll be a HR but what's the final price after dealer markup? Fun to keep for 10 years with Toyota quality. I can finally get a car a small car with FUN as the heart of it and family suitable AWD.
