Picked up a ‘24 SEL AWD last month. What a great daily driver! Yes, no tax incentive, but Hyundai is lopping $7,500 off the cost to remain competitive because of that. I was going to get a hybrid vehicle, but the cost for the Ioniq 6 got so close, I chose EV, instead. I was going to grab a ‘23, as they had even more incentives, but there was a stop sale due to a recall. Because of that, the dealer gave me even more off on a ‘24. Structural laminate glass has a higher tensile strength than a steel roof. For the energy absorption portion of the ends and sides of the car to work properly the main safety box needs to deform as minimally as possible so the energy can be directed into the deformable segments. You could put a metal rail system on top but that would add 200 pounds more than a glass canopy. Maybe see through aluminum someday, but for now glass works better.

@@stanwbaker Ultimately it's your choice as a consumer. If you don't like those glass roofs don't buy one. I was just pointing out the reasoning why auto makers are using it - because it's both cheaper and stronger than a conventional steel roof. It also offers more headroom than a steel roof.... until you put a sliding shade underneath it. The reason you have less headroom is the tendency for automakers to make these coupe CUVs that luxury marks like MB and BMW started doing about 6 years ago and now everybody wants to make something that is high off the ground and yet has a low roofline - basically you have to ride like a low rider. Hey Alex, your issue with the bad charging recommendation is due to a bad design choice they made. The nav determines the max charging on a trip to what you choose as the max charging in the charging menu. So if you lower the DC charging to 80% or less in the other menu, you get much better recommendations. But then when you get to a stop which goes a bit longer than you expect and the car stops charging at 80% when you could have had more... That just sucks.

Obviously this depends on tons of factors like speed, terrain, weather, and driving style, but an expected real-world number or whatever energy consumption you saw on your standard EV test route is would put the energy efficiency number into perspective. Once we have sufficient charging infrastructure in place for road trips, the number that will matter more is energy efficiency, not range. Just like we measure ICE vehicles not by the size of their gas tank, but by their mpg fuel economy. Edit: just realized you threw in fuel economy at 26:22. Q: What does fast charging matter if you're not taking it on a road trip? A: it doesn't. most "true adults" (who've already had their licenses for decades) either work for a living, have families and busy lives, so generally don't have a whole lot of free time to spend just "driving all over Creation". also: they've done that already.

I like the front and rear design a lot, but in profile, it looks stumpy and awkward with the downward arching shape front to back. Looks like a turtle. That aside, it seems like a very nice car and a solid value. Hyundai battery cost is more than the price of the car though, so I suspect that's what's driving down the real-world purchase price for people. Consumer fear. Also, can we acknowledge the superior interior design of the Ioniq 6 over the Tesla Model 3? It's a unique, modern, clean design with real tactile buttons, which are so much better than Tesla's gimmicky huge touchscreen to operate everything.

Been a long time Hyundai customer, but no more. Here in Canada, the Ioniq 6 RWD with the options package that gives it similar features to what is included in the Model 3 is $59.5k on Hyundai build and price before tax. This includes *some* delivery/destination fees. More on that in a second. The Model 3 RWD is $52k before tax. With Tesla, this includes all fees ($1,800 delivery/inspection, $100 AC tax, $20 tire fee, $12.50 OMVIC, $59 license fee for a total of $2,071.50). So…Model 3 RWD total price with fees is $52k pre tax. Hyundai build and price reports the following fees included in the online price: $727.50 for ‘Other fees and levies’ and $1950 for delivery/destination fees, totalling $2,677.50. That’s already $600 more than Tesla, but my local Hyundai dealer actually included the following total fees: $2100 - freight/air tax $498 security etching (mandatory) $75 - ‘car proof fee’ $139.95 - wheel locks $2,131.50 - Misc. Fees $90 - non-taxable fees $140 - Other charges For a grand total of $5,174.45 in fees, over $3k more than Tesla. It’s bullshit and I called them on it, and they wouldn’t budge. Another thing on Hyundai - the I6 reminds me of the old Tiburon. Sure, it LOOKS flashy, looks like a luxury car, but it’s not. The Tiburon was basically an Elantra on the inside with a different body. The I6 is much the same. Also, Hyundai sacrifices on materials and fit and finish to cut costs. I was behind a Kona today and the factory roof trims were noticeably and hilariously not even! One was very crooked…my 8 y/o noticed as well. Anyway, sure, the I6 has a lot of features, some the Model 3 doesn’t have (HUD) but underneath the fancy exterior it’s just not that great a car. Hyundai’s EV tech is in its infancy and nowhere near Tesla. And the dealers….they are a joke. Tesla…no haggling, no hassle, no bullshit hidden fees. So hey, if you want to pay tons extra including a whack of ‘Misc Fees’ from the dealers for a fancy looking vehicle that is really not that great under the hood, go for it. Lastly…my trade in. The HYUNDAI DEALER that I bought my Elantra from in 2018 offered me $2200 LESS for the trade in than Tesla did! I found it hilarious that they undervalued their own product so much. Will never go back to that dealer again, and likely Hyundai has lost any future business I might otherwise have given them.

Sounds really nice, but one thing about the mileage, if it is hot or cold and you run the AC or heater, that mileage is affected so don't count on near 300 miles on a hot, summer day or cold winter day. Also "reliability", and fit and finish remains to be seen, of course. I also hear that all of the EV's tear through tires like a hot knife through butter.
@AAutoBuyersGuide
4 ай бұрын
In most cases you'll see a bigger hit on range when it's cold than when it's hot but yes, your range will vary a bit based on weather. Now, EVs CAN burn through tires but they won't always do so. Most of this comes from the fact that they have gobs of torque and people enjoy putting their right foot down. Since most EV buyers aren't previous performance car owners it makes sense that they wouldn't be used to seeing their tires wear down this way. -Travis

Especially EVs with a heat pump, 50% reduction is implausible. In 20 degree weather with our EV6 we saw about a 15% reduction. Now, snowy roads, wet roads, etc those will all compound that so if you’re driving through snow then you will see more range loss, but you’d also see that in an ICE vehicle
