It's crazy how much these have crept in price over the years. I remember the original launch of the S2 was marketed as a "USA made workhorse guitar for under $1000". I understand everything is expensive nowadays, just kind of a bummer to see.

Phillip, they put the 58/15 because it does have a better marketing effect to say "hey, we are giving you our top pickups!". Then, a couple of years later they'll come out with some new Core exclusive pickups and caught everybody with that strategy. There's no way they are going to maintain the same pickups on the S2 and the Core lineups forever.

@@Darth.Shredder those are the core pickups. Assuming they would have already came with a base model is kinda weird. I have never understood the idea that the S2 line was marketed as essentially a lower cost version of the core model made in the states. The reality is that the the pups and electronics were all import, like the CE and you were essentially paying the premium for the body/neck made in USA. With the cost increases that have hit everything, it seems to me that the S2 finds itself in a weird place. It seems more likely that you're going either SE or core when it comes to price alone. Obviously there are other models that are only offered in the S2 line and they're are going to be people that like the S2 better of course. It just seems like when it comes to affordability, you'd be better off to go SE and upgrade electronics, or go core. I have a few core and a few SE's, and while the Indonesian made SE's aren't as a high a quality as the Korean made ones, in my opinion, they still offer the best value for your dollar. It felt like people wanted the USA made electronics, but at the original price point, it seems to kind of lose a little value with the price increase is figured in.

Good move by PRS. I wish my PRS S2 Satin 24 had come with good pickups. It shipped with G & B pickups, same as my PRS SE Custom 24. I'm not a fan of the G & B pickups. At all. I'll tell you what it is - the individual note definition when you play a chord with typical crunch settings is a bit muddy. They sound good for the single note stuff. I put in a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates and it's a big improvement. The price increase was probably necessary, but it would have been nice if the pickup upgrade was optional. That said, $250 for a set of good pickups is reasonable.

super dissapointing that I just bought an s2.... not to mention the thing never stays in tune, and the electronics were very poorly wired, I had to re-do the whole guitar and swap out the switch becuase it had a bunch of cold solder joints and the bridge pickup kept cutting out... seems like the move is to only buy the used core line since they keep updating the s2's and se models - same thing happened a while back after I bought a new SE - they totally re-vamped and upgraded the line to the point of the used models selling as low as $200 for a guitar which was $1000 new a few years back. At least the core models hold their value for the most part - I'm really kicking myself for buying the s2 now

If the S2 was really as bad w9red as you say I would of sent it back under warranty and make them fix their work. You paid enough for it. U paid for a warranty too. May as well use it.

You talked about a "dead fret", I have come across on two guitars of a dead high E string. Simply lower volume (not just lower treble but its the string). reason?

Really disappointed that they changed the S2 neck to a Pattern thin Vs Pattern regular. I can't do the thinner necks and really loved this line previously. Guess I'll keep waiting for a bird inlay S2.

PRS website says it’s a pattern regular not a pattern thin neck
