Online content creators aren’t all just entertainers doing dances, skits and stunts. Some are doing important types of accountability work that used to primarily be the domain of journalists - whether it is filming the police or dissecting luxury handbags to determine quality. In this panel discussion, Investigative Journalist and Walter Shorenstein Media & Democracy fellow Julia Angwin interviews top online creators from KZitem and TikTok about the motivations and challenges of their work, how they think about the intersections of content creation and journalism, and the lessons that we can learn from them about how they build trust with their audiences.
Content Creators on the panel include:
- Meredith Lynch @meredithmlynch on TikTok, Instagram, and KZitem
- Samuel Denby @Wendoverproductions on KZitem and Twitter/X
- Vokan Yilmaz @tanner.leatherstein on KZitem, Instagram, and TikTok
- Dr Muhammad Siyab Panhwar @Drsiyabmd on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter/X
- Ernest Crim III @MrCrim3 on KZitem, TikTok, and Instagram
- Taylor Lorenz @TaylorLorenz on KZitem, Tiktok, Instagram, and Twitter/X (and The Washington Post)
