History lessons tell you what needs to be told for the limited years of primary and secondary education. They leave you room to go to the libraries, cafes, and archives especially for the ugly things of life and reality. Movies like the 24th encouraged the people to dig into the libraries and remember the past. So history lessons are not at fault here. You do not bother to ask around.

GhostMacross01 I get what you’re saying. But history teaches us lessons. When teaching someone, people should have their facts. @TheCamaraMan It's my personal experience (and I don't want to sound like I'm speaking for anyone else here) that "Based on a True Story" means it'll generally follow the actual events, with some artistic license or embellishment, but overall probably 6-7 out of 10. So a D, maybe a C grade for accuracy. Rare occasions it'll be a B or B+, almost never an A (i.e. 9 or 10 of 10) "Inspired by true events/a true story" usually means the producer went "Hey, I heard about this cool thing. We should do a movie where that's the backdrop, and put our own story on top of it". Which results in an accuracy of maybe 2-3 out of 10. Which is pretty wretched. Witness the Michael Bay movie "Pearl Harbor". Yeah, there were references to actual events...but most of the story was completely fabricated. Whereas "Tora, Tora, Tora" had some embellishments and repeated some apocryphal anecdotes etc. but watching it you'll get at least a reasonable idea of what actually happened, even though it's not perfect.

We need these stories told more often. We have people whining about statues, talking of "history" and "heritage," but their "history" is a myth. If America is a house then it is a house built by many different groups, and yet one group in particular pretends till this day that it's *their* house and that the rest of us are guests. They talk about respecting the troops by not kneeling, but this country knelt on the necks of men and women of color who put blood in soils both foreign and domestic for fellow humans who repaid them with violence, hatred, degradation and disenfranchisement.
@4wardog503

leviathanmg - All true. America needs an awakening, regarding its true history, to include an honest telling of the exploits (heroism) of African American or Buffalo soldiers (9th & 10th Cavalry and 24th Infantry) during the period. The fact that Civil War statutes exist today is a testament to the dishonesty, cowardice and betrayal the US Government promotes to this very day.

However, the "Zimmerman Telegram" (British revealing (and exaggerating) German ploy to get Mexico to attack the USA to keep the US out of World War One. 2) Camps already existed from mobilizing National Guard units from a cross the USA in 1916 to respond to Mexican guerilla/bandit raids into the USA (Texas/New Mexico/Arizona) 3) Weather/Environment permitted training through the fall/winter of 1917-18, so the majority of WWI and WWII Camps/"Forts" were established in the Southern USA. It's going to be depressing as hell. Why? Because we can argue over the righteousness of them fighting back - and my soldierly heart is with them there - but we really cannot argue over the death sentences. Why? Because what they engaged in was the worst military crime, the one unforgivable and unpardonable crime, the one crime for which _summary_execution_ is not only authorized but for which failure to use it, if that's all that's left, calls for execution of the officer who failed to use it: Mutiny. And they were guilty of that. Pretty sure they knew it, too. By all reports they went to the gallows like men, in part, I think, because they knew the sentences were just.

I'm a local Houstonian and this is the first time I've ever heard about the Camp Logan Mutiny! Reading about it is very interesting and also gave me a bit of disgust in my mouth of how these men were treated. I cannot wait to see this film.

Violence is never the answer and these soldiers had no right to murder as they did. They just marched into town in column until they stumbled upon 6 cops and immediately opened fire on them killing 3 and injuring the others. Then they stopped a police car and ordered the officers to give them their guns. When they complied they were killed in cold blood. Then an unarmed millinery officer on leave marched toward them to demand they cease fire and they shot him dead in cold blood. How is that justice? How does that make them any better than police?

Everyone wants to know why there hasn’t been a movie about the Harlem Hellfighters yet. It’s likely because their own story somewhat conflicts with the narrative The 24th is perpetuating. Yes, the men of the 369th experienced racial discrimination, but when things got really bad, their white counterparts in the 27th Division actually stepped in to help them. And, of course, the French simply didn’t care what they looked like. I don’t deny that racism is part of the painting of the past, but we should never let it cover the whole canvas

Just watched it. Very interesting; in that my father was in the 36th Texas Infantry at that same time. He was white, he went to France. He had a little Brownie camera with which he took snapshots of just about everything. I pored over those pictures as a child. The main anachronism I noticed was the cut & fit of the uniforms. My father, like most of his comrades, no matter how poor or lowly in rank; had their uniforms tailored to fit. They wore their collars high & tight. Men's clothes, both civilian & military, were slim, narrow & tight in that decade. Real soldiers would never get away with being that sloppy. In contrast to the two previous wars, US troops in WWI were all spit & polish all the time, even in the field. Really, they were up against the Germans, after all...

Why did I read the comments. I watch the trailer and thought to my self this looks like a good movie. The fact that it's based on real events saddens me greatly but what the comments tell me is that everyone missed the fact that this stories time frame is set before the entire Civil Rights movement. The Civil War ended barely 50 years before this event. in the grand scheme of things that is nothing.They grew up on the stories of their grandfathers on how things used to be and information still moved slowly then. The fact that people are saying wow 1917 2020 whats the difference between now and then pisses me off. The difference is the cops are not beating people half to death and leaving them bleeding on the street the protesters are. The police are not destroying peoples home, businesses, and lively hoods the protesters are. The police are not destroying peoples lives, the protesters are. people need to stop throwing stone while living in glass houses cause all that broken glass in going to cut them. All men/women are created equal people. We are born, we live, and then we die, rich man poor man and what ever damn skin tone you have. What sets everyone apart is how we choose to live. will you Live, Love, and Prosper or will you Hate, Rage, and Wallow in Anger. I have lived both sides of that last bit an I know which one I choose. So when you watch this movie don't see it as fuel for more hatred but instead watch it an see how far we've come and know we still have more to do but we are growing together as one people. It's all about Hope people if we don't have it then what's the point.
