I remember when Mr. Rorion Gracie brought Gracie Jiujitsu to the Chuck Norris UFAF system. He must be so proud of the work Rener and Ryron are doing. I am so grateful that Gracie Jiujitsu came into my life. Blessings.

That’s awesome!!! I haven’t gotten to meet them yet, but my instructor has been training with them & taking private lessons with Ryron & Rener since the early 2000’s. (One of the reasons I bought Combatives 1.0 back in the day was b/c I had seen some of the material and had really liked it. But my teacher says the same things about Ryron & Rener and how great they are to train with.

Been in over 40 street fights in my life and its amazing what experience does. I will allow anyone to hit me first always as I block and deflect punches making them aggressor, as I never try to start fights. As I am being hit I feel their power or lack off most times than I decide as getting punched what move I will do or simply even disengage and stand at 8 ft distance waiting to see if they are gassed out and under adrenaline dump. Last fight that's exactly what happened and this bigger guy was already done and could not even stand yet alone fight just after throwing 6 punches that I blocked 5 out off. I got my neck hit at 30% power and made me laugh at him than he realized I was just getting started. He backed off and I being nice told him to learn to fight first and next time not to snap at people. At 46 with jujitsu and other martial Arts and 20 years off weight lifting I don't want to fight unless really my life is in danger. Being fair and nice is my fundamental even in a fight where I am being attacked first knowing what I know can end that person.

This is great content, 2.0 looks good. However, I think it's a bit disingenuous to think that one can learn to survive a street fight in a few hours though. A violent aggressor in the street is not your average human stepping on the mat the first day with a white belt. There are people out there who are capable of great violence, and it takes more than even a BJJ blue belt to be able to confidently say that one would survive a violent encounter

Your point of the average person on the let’s say often on the wrong side of the law so to speak being capable of great violence with no training is a valid one. Two replies come to mind: one: someone who trains in this combatives will be measurably better off than that same person who never did that training.Two. It’s meant to be a lifetime ongoing training, not “a few hours”. But even to successfully complete the basic course would take a few months and hundreds of hours. And then they should continue. But better than not at all.

Rener's comment about turtling and standing up being a bad idea is archaic at best. Turtling and standing up is a legitimate tactical decision in a self defence situation considering the alternative is to pull guard on bottom and be at the mercy of ground and pound. Turtling is not without risks but they can be managed by learning jiu jitsu.
@tjl4688

Turtling always brings more risk of losing the fight, especially in MMA. Turtling should be a last resort, not a first.

I love Rener and Reron. But I'm siding with the Turtle camp here. Personally, I think how to go to turtle and stand up should be one of the first things taught to beginners. I'd say it's about as important as open guard retention and more important than closed guard.

No need to trash talk sports BJJ just because you are selling a self-defense program. Unless you are a nightclub bouncer in the ghetto, chances of getting into a "street fight" are infinitesimal. Train BJJ and chill, no need to get paranoid about "street fights".
