Sydney bus route 342 is possibly Australia’s shortest bus route! At an astonishing 650m/0.4miles long, and taking less than its scheduled four minute travel time, it is an oddity in Sydney’s extensive public transport network. But why on earth does this route exist? Follow us as we look into the history of this bus route, initially introduced as a three month trial in 1996, has continued to operate now for over 27 years at the time of this video’s release!

We visited and produced most of this video last month in April. Since then, there has been an unfortunate alteration to the schedule of the 342, there are two services from Daceyville to Kingsford (Dacey Gardens), but not there is only one, yes ONE, bus service from Dacey Gardens back to Daceyville! Refer to the 342's timetable in the link below.
