Tbh i wished the hip lift wasnt a healing skill, because im currently at such a high level in the game where i barely take damage or need to heal. So i never end up using any healing moves in adventure mode, i really like many of the healing moves. Im an artist and arm/shoulder pain is always a worry of mine and thats why i got ringfit. So knowing that back press is good for rounded shoulders is great! Ive always considered myself a bit weak and out of shape so im surprised that the moves i like the most and find easiest + most fulfilling are on this list! I was expecting mountain climber or planks... but i see theyre in the top five worst ones haha!
@MasterTrainerPeter
3 жыл бұрын
It is a shame, and healing skills are generally used to prolong a battle, rather than...actual healing, if that makes sense. Especially when you get up to the levels you're talking about! Yeah, Back Press, Overhead Press and Overhead Bend are actually excellent in synergy as moves to perform to help with rounding at the shoulders, owing to the strengthening properties they have. Planks and Mountain Climbers definitely have their place in an exercise program, but their implementation within Ring Fit is just not as effective as it needs, and I believe they promote poor form. It'd be best to do seperate plank and mountain clmbers sessions away from Ring Fit, if you're interested in bringthem into a routine! If you're looking for more on rounded shoulders, I'm actually working on some Ring Fit playlists specifically to help strengthen them, as well as stretch recommendations to help too. Wont be out til Feb at the earliest, but figured you'd be interested!

This is actually the same problem I ran into, I gave myself a rule that I always had to have one healing skill slotted and I had to use it any time I was injured and it was off cooldown. This meant I used it once every fight unless I had a one-turn-kill

My favorite fit skills have got to be the "dance" based skills, for lack of a better term. Can't quite think of an overall favorite, but a few that come to mind atm are Side Step, Knee Lift (Combo) and Overhead Hip Shake. I still have other general exercises that I use for Ring Fit, of course, but I very much welcome exercises that also let me move to the beat.

Hey! My comment is a little late but I just wanted to gush about how much I enjoyed this video. Just like you seem to be, I am a big Nintendo fan and I am also a personal trainer (I've actually been brainstorming my own video on RFA that I hope to begin production on soon!). So with that perspective, I really appreciated this video on every level. Your editing is smooth and well-done, you have a very confident voiceover, and most important, I totally agree with you on your choices in these videos. I appreciate the moves in this game that focus on the fundamentals, such as basic squats, which then are expanded on later in the game with more dynamic versions (wide/overhead squats for example). It's important that players understand these fundamentals before moving on to more complex motions, and it's clear that you know what you're talking about and you have a passion for this. This was an easy subscribe from me, and I truly wish you success moving forward with your videos and personal training career!

Glad it was helpful! I 100 percent recommend creating custom playlists for your favourite moves. You stillg et the reps counted towards the titles and such for your profile, and although you dont gather experience, its really worth going into. Once you've unlocked them in Adventure, they're all worth using. Hip Lift, as a recovery move, is useful but essentially prolongs the workout, where if you're going to complete levels ASAP, smoothies do a better job. Still. Hip Lift is so good.

@MasterTrainerPeter

Hey Megan! I think Knee To Chest is a really good move but can definitely be difficult due to hip positioning. Its a great stepping stone move to harder ones, but if you're struggling, it can be worth lowering your upper body closer to the floor so you dont have quite as much strain on the abs. Make sure you get the leg motion correctly and then over time, raise your upper body higher. The increase in the angle at the hips (hip flexion) makes it more intense. Let me know how you go!

Nice work Merry! Thats a great way of getting around the intensity whilst also performing the top of the function. When people arent able to maintain a standard squat position, a great way to help the stability is to sit to a chair or use a pole/wall for balance, so you're definitely on the right track! May I suggest using some of the more aerobic exercises like knee raise and using jogging mode to increase the amount of calories burnt per session? Obviously do it all at your own pace, but it'll help with you weight loss goal :D

Thank you! I'd suggest a well rounded set of exercises, starting with some aerobic based ones, then going into legs, then arms, then finishing with core or yoga, as a rule of thumb. I'm severely overweight and out of shape. I started playing a week and a half ago, been doing it almost every day and hoo boy. First day I was only able to go for about 9 minutes of exercise time, according to the game. Tonight I did 26 minutes, so it seems like a lot of improvement in just 9 days. I've been doing a lot of the knee raises (they're fun), the normal standing twist I don't know the name of, overhead press, front press. I haven't had much issue with doing all the squats, either, surprisingly. At first I couldn't walk after, and that's still mostly true, but I can go for far longer than normal, and it's even one of my favorite go-to's in adventure mode. I'm so thankful that all bars were lifted in New Game++ because now I can freely choose moves without compensating with lower base power. All that aside, I stuck with the Bow Pull (feels like it's doing more for me than the Overhead Arm Spin that tires out my arms faster) and didn't risk pulling a muscle by stubbornly including Boat Pose when my body refused to cooperate. Same used to happen with me. If your on high difficulty, there's not much you can do about this since they expect so many reps. Maybe try the move in custom mode so you can go at your own pace. Press lightly for the move and go slow. Take a break every few reps if it starts to hurt. Eventually your muscles will increase and it won't hurt anymore. Don't push through the pain, but instead slowly and lightly incorporate moves that use that muscle area/shoulders.
@MasterTrainerPeter

L.E DuBois has a great comment here, but also may I recommend trying Overhead Press as an alternative? It has similar benefits, but due to the arm position it is not as intense on the back. Interesting video! 1. I also like hip lift in RFA a lot. Sadly, it is a healing skill in Adventure mode and I seldom need any healing except for boss fights. Maybe I will put the move into Custom mode. 2. I like that RFA game put Back Press as a powerful attack skill for level 30 ~ 50 players. It really encourage bench worker like me implement for Back Press that other arm skills. 3. Squats are important skills in gym as well as RFA. Yet, as a newbie in training, I am pretty afraid of putting the squats into my Combat skill list due to the pressure it may apply to the knee joint if executed in wrong way. Would you like to put more notification about performing squats in game a correctly as possible? Thanks for the informative video.

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely recommend using Hip Lift in Custom Mode if you're not using it in Adventure! And yes, the Back Press is a really strong move for the time period it comes, its good encouragement! Squats certainly are important! I feel that you should include the squats in your fit skill list because of the sheer amount of benefits they have, but I appreciate the point you're making about form here. If you find that you're having too much pressure on the knee joint, it sounds like a technique issue. At which point, remove them and focus on a squat regression (assisted with stick, sit onto chair etc). I'm working on a video for this in the near future too, to help.

Honestly, the Hip Lift being a healing move is a big negative, not a positive. Once you get farther into the game, healing moves become downright useless. Smoothies do the same thing without consuming a turn, ingredients are abundant, and big boss battles where you would actually use recovery moves usually have phases that offer you recovery hearts anyway. It's also quite easy to overlevel, making the random monster encounters trivial, and there's no real way for you to let the game catch up to you. All of these factors mean I rarely, if ever, use any sort of healing move. Hip lift may have everything else going for it, but if I have no in-game incentive to use it, it might as well not be there.
@MasterTrainerPeter
3 жыл бұрын
You can use the healing moves to extend your workout. Its more focused towards the workout side than the game side of this game. Not that I dont agree with you; as far as my video game playing side goes, its not got a lot of use. But when I'm playing purely as a workout, I find it useful to inject. Besides, its such a great exercise for you, so I find any excuse! 😅

I suspect exercises like standing twist and hip shake are ridiculously strong and target all enemies to make it easier for people who aren't fit at all or kids. I have one of them in my selection most of the time and use them more often when I want to take it easy instead of targeting every enemy 2-3 times in a group of five enemies. I also suspect that those weird encouragement like the happy muscles get a giggle out of kids. We think they are weird, almost creepy, kids probably think they are the silly kind of entertaining. I have a quick question, though, if I'm not too late. Are the standard squats better and more effective than wide squats? I had the impression that the wide overhead squats hit more muscles for me (in a good way) while, on the downside, the game seems to catch the execution of the standard squats better. But that doesn't really matter as my body (especially my butt, or glutes like the game would call it) definitely registers the efforts even when the game doesn't. But if standard squats are the better exercise I'd replace the wide squats with them in my routine.
@MasterTrainerPeter
4 жыл бұрын
Moves like Standing Twist and Overhead Hip Shake have niche use, but fall more into the active recovery area for everyday use. So, the reason I've put standard squats as a priority over the overhead and wide is because even though they are all excellent exercises, it is more important to be able to do the foundation move (standard squat) with proper form than to be able to do overhead or wide. Its all to do with a base of fitness, and if you cant perform standard properly, you shouldnt try a more advanced one. If you're nailing the standard squat each time reliably, then overhead will hit more muscles for you owing to the overhead arm extension and the muscles required to hold the position! Therefore, even though Overhead hits more muscles, it is more important to be able to do the standard squat first! As far as Wide goes, the leg positioning changes the muscles hit, with higher focus on the adductors and glute med. I prefer the standard TBH as it focuses slightly more on the glutes max, but thats just me. What do you prefer?

I hate Hip Lift and I am surprised to see it as a recommendation. I thought it was a very poor implementation in ring fit. I found it yesterday in the “posture set” gym of world “El Dorago”. Really frustrating, the ring kept flying around and I ended up finding a way to cheat the game into thinking I was doing the movement and skip this exercise.
@MasterTrainerPeter
Жыл бұрын
Hip Lift has good implementation (it hits the right muscles well, and teaches you good transferrable form for real work exercise), but I know that some people find the Ring slipping out occasionally. The movement detection is based on the leg strap, so once you've set the move up, you can move the ring to the floor and perform the move normally. It allows you to hit all the same muscles with what is essentially the same form without need for slipping. The ring is essentially there to force your knees into the right position, but if you can do that normally, you're golden. Its a brilliant move that everyone should be using.

Start small! Easier ones like Warrior 1, Warrior 2 and Tree Pose are worth trying. For Tree Pose, just stand on one leg and keep the other foot off the ground (akin to a flamingo!) in order to build some stability through the ankles. Even having a pole, broom or chair to hold on to to assist at first will help. This stability and core strength from here will open doors to other flexibility based exercises.

I disagree with the ranking for squats - for a skill so very frequently used in adventure (so frequently that I added runner's braces to my workout kit to keep my knees from yelling at me,) It's implementation was poor. I can't tell you the number of times that the depth to which I needed to squat was substantially lowered, and I can only imagine my posture was off as well.

Totally fair to disgree. I found the form, cues and general implementation was really good in the game. It is used very frequently, yes. A lot of people who have had issues with their depth have found it is more to do with thigh strap positioning than their general technique. Nothing wrong with a deep squat; in fact, to activate as much of the glutes as possible, the thigh should be just below parallel to the floor (so the hip is very slightly lower than the knee), albeit I'm assuming you have to drop lower than that.

@@MasterTrainerPeter Significantly lower at times. Glutes to ankles lower.

I get a lot of benefit from doing squats, and at the beginning of the game I was enjoying them. But as I have leveled up I can't go low enough to complete the challenges. I like playing ring fit, but don't know if I can keep playing. I would also love to keep doing squats, but not have to go so low.

If it were for function IRL, it'd be here. However, Ring Fit's detection is so rough with mountain climbers its actually on my 5 worst skills list

@@MasterTrainerPeter yeah, just saw that after! I feel like it takes the most out of me out of all the exercises, and uses my full body the most, so that's why I thought it would be the best

I use 3 of the 5 excersizes reguarly. I don’t use squats since the game has like a billion while running in the level. I also don’t use the overhead luge twist since I struggle turning. Need to work on flexibility. Also what are your thoughts on thigh press? It’s one of my favourites

Thats totally fair! You're getting your squats in though, which is important! Thigh Press is fine for dedicated work on the adductors if you need it, but there are other moves that hit it well incidentally, so I dont use it too often tbh.

How about all the other kinds of squats

They're great! Of course, but the standard is such an important biomechanic movement pattern. That importance, as well as how well its cued in the game gives it a better ranking IMO.

3 days in and feeling great! My only problem so far is I feel really stiff in my neck and shoulders after working out. Going from working on a computer to rfa, My body isn't use to all this dynamic arm movement. Is thier something I can do to relax my neck after working out?

I tend to stretch my shoulders and triceps, which has some stretching benefits to the neck and traps area!

Thanks for this video! Would you do a video with some tips to use the Ring Fit more efficiently for weight loss? I've been doing the Adventure Mode but it takes a very long time to burn calories. I'm never sure of what skills I should be doing or if I should just be doing custom mode instead.

Great suggestion! I have a few weight loss playlists for custom mode available on my channel, essentially pushing through more aerobic exercises to get the heart rate up. I've been writing a video regarding weight loss in general, but I'm more than happy to begin adapting that towards Ring Fit! Might take a lil bit though :)

I wrote this comment before I found your playlists haha Never subscribed harder to a channel, wish I had found out about this sooner! Thanks so much for the videos and for replying all comments as well ☺️
