Thank you so much for this video. My dog had a close one today, which is why I’m here. She is deathly scared of water so I brought her inside, she layed on my bed, and I turned on a fan. Gradually, her panting and drooling stopped and she is returning to normal. I am using this as an opportunity to educate myself more about this subject so that if it ever happens again I will know what to do. Thank you!😊🐶🐾

I also want to thank you for this particular video. Of course dog owners of any type of dog need to be aware of the dangers of excessive heat and/or humidity on their dogs. But owners of flat faced breeds such as Bulldogs and owners of dogs with thick double coats either short or long haired need to be especially vigilant. I live in a state with hot humid summers so my little 6 lb, 9 year old Pomeranian spends the daylight hours safely inside my air conditioned home. He gets a short walk in the morning and weather permitting he gets a slightly longer one in the cooler evening hours. Inside during the day we practice his tricks and work on some simple agility maneuvers.

Im a dog walker in the UK and this week we've been having 27°c regularly and today was the fourth time this week I've had to help a stranger's dog from heat stroke , one of which was having severe seizures. I find it astonishing and heartbreaking that so many people don't know dogs can suffer and die from this. Although this sunshine can be nice to get out and walk your dog things can go bad to worse so quickly if your not prepared. A good way of getting some heat out of your dog that I've had to use before is to carry rubbing alcohol and put it on their paws and ears maybe even the stomach in bad cases since its high % it evaporates quickly helping to cool down whilst your on the way to a vet and might buy you some valuable time.

Just today my dog had a heatstroke and unfortunately passed away at the age of 5 and it happened to fast I almost don't feel any emotion right now because I'm so shocked and confused. it's was 89 degrees out and she was previously running around a tree in my backyard for 20 minutes then went on a walk and it happened. She made a terrible wheezing sound and sat down and wouldn't get back up. We immediately brought her to the vet and they had to do cpr on her but she was long gone. She died with a temperature of over 108 degrees, I have had that dog sense a puppy. I love you Gemma.

So yesterday, we were all outside getting ready for our garage sale. My small dog (she's a mix breed but I don't know of what, not poodle though, but she does look like a little like a Cockapoo), loves being outside, especially if we are. She loves the rain water more than her inside water too, so we made sure she could get to the rainwater or sit in the garage with us for shade. It was about 85 degrees F out. We'd been outside for about 3 hours and while I was with my grandma moving some boxes, she looked over at my dog and remarked 'did you step on something?' and I looked at my dog, Dusty. She was limping a little, but it then quickly looked to be like she was about to collapse. I rushed over to her and let her lean into me as I checked her over. She was shaking and sounded like she wanted to spit up, but didn't. She wan't panting, just making that sound like she wanted to spit. I told my grandma I think something is wrong, because I'd never seen her act like that before. My grandma said it wasn't anything to worry about and just picked her up and rubbed her, gave her some cuddles, and just waited. I was inwardly panicking and wanted to call the vet, but Dusty turned out to be okay. She drank some rain water once she stopped shaking and we put her in the house before coming in ourselves.

Be careful with puppies as well as they heat up even faster...even in weather like 20 celcius. I had my 3 month old puppy in the car with me while a family friend went to get something from the store. It was 20 degree celcius that day which isn't even hot but we were sitting in the car and cars heat up fast. My family member took longer than I expected and my puppy was looking at me strangely and started to do this weird swallow and just look like he didnt feel right. I quickly opened the door and took him out to cool down as there was a nice breeze outside. Thankfully he ended up being fine. I think if I just sat in the car a little longer thinking it was a nice warm Canadian(20 degree celcius) day..my puppy may have suffered. I ended up googling and discovered that even on a 20 degree summer day..a puppy or dog inside a car may end up in a fatal accident.

It's been extremely hot here lately. Like, 109° out here! My brother walks his dogs down to a field not too far from our house. And every time he comes back, his dogs are panting a lot. I mean, he takes water with him and poures it on their heads, but I don't think that helps them much. And I've told him to stop walking them midday, and only do it in the evening or early in the morning. But he won't listen!!! Is there any advice that you could give me? Like, maybe scare him into listing to me? I just want to stop him before it's too late.

Hi there, Madison! A dog can have a heat emergency very quickly. In conditions like that, it wouldn't take long for a dog to get really sick. It would be a good idea to talk to your parents about coming up with an exercise plan for the dogs that you and your brother can follow. You are right when you mention avoiding the midday sun! If you aren't able to convince him, you may need to get some help from someone in his life that he will listen to. It's ultimately our responsibility to make good choices for our dogs. Hope this helps! ~Ken

It's amazing how ignorant pet owners can be about this. Yea animals get hot too and overheat just like ppl even much quicker because they don't sweat like us. Especially if it's a long eared or long haired dogs or pushed in faces has it worst. Fastest way to cool animals down is immersing their paws in cold water and wrapping their bodies in cool baby swaddles. I also take those pet ear cleaning wipes which I keep in the frig and wipe my dog's ears down with it when he over heats and he loves it!

I’m so sorry to hear even though I’m reading this a month later. I only walked my dog to my sisters and back, a quarter of block away, she was inside a sarong sling I have made for her, I sprayed water on the harness, on the sling, even stayed inside my sister’s apt before heading out again. She never had a heat stroke before but by the time I got home I thought she was having a heart breathing episode, so all I could thing of is spray water in her mouth, then with a needless Syringe I squirted half and half water and chicken stock, desperately not knowing what to do (before I could find the syringe) I dropped 3 drops of her cbd (it’s a really strong one), then the syringe and kept her on top of this portable AC. I really thought she was gonna die on me but miraculously she made it through... I think mostly that portable ac, maybe the fluids too, maybe the cbd, who knows, but I think mainly the ac is what saved her. She was shaking for a while and I thought she was still having issues but I think it was just her being scared of what had just happened. And it was late, already 9pm or so when I got back, but I am in Texas and this week the temperatures were hitting high 90s to 100s... I was present to 3 of my family dogs passing, two by euthanasia, and one from natural causes, heart issues, passed in my mom’s arms when she took her last breaths, so in a way I know how it feels, although this dog I mentioned is my first dog I ever had and all I ask is that when she goes (besides heart she has cancer) I pray that she goes peacefully in my arms and not in some bad situation... sorry didn’t mean to write so much but just wanted to tell you I’m praying for strength for you and that you can heal from this pain bc in a way I know how hard it is. And a piece of advice: I’m still learning this and bc my dog has cancer I can’t feed her raw but, people, if you want do diminish the chances of your dogs developing serious health issues, including some types of cancer that can be avoided, please stop feeding the dry kibble diets! Research “raw food diet” on KZitem, Dr Becker, Rodney Habib, Kimberly raw food, they explain about how the pet food industry is killing out dogs. Basically these food are lower in protein than we think, and are too caloric, too many high starchy carbs that dogs aren’t meant to process, and the high heat, the way they make the food and many ingredients are carcinogenic! So research! Please stop the dry dog food. Even cooking on low heat your own meats with the right kind of veggies and fruits is better, if you can’t do raw. Just no potatoes and soy or pea protein! Dogs are definitely carnivores not omnivores! These foods do damage long term. Serious damage. Sorry, good night and good luck and my condolences to you 😔 🙏

I’m so sorry for your loss, my dog died just last night of heat stroke his temperature was over 109 and we caught it too late because it was late at night when me and my sister Heard a loud banging noise is coming from downstairs,we soon to find out he’s vomited everywhere he had a seizure before we got down there is what we think because he already had bitten his tongue and he was bleeding from his mouth while while it was foam coming from his mouth , while we’re trying to get the car ready for him to take him to the vet he seized really bad then The whole way there he was just seizing in the back of the car. The vet basically told us that he has brain damage from seizing and his temperature was over 109 so even if we did go and debt for the procedure to keep them alive he most likely would’ve died anyways so we just had to put him down.

I've been going on walks with my golden retriever for about three months now and several times we have returned to our house and she just pants for a few minutes. I take her indoors to lay on the cold tile and put a fan in front of and give her lots of water. Aside from the panting and lots of drooling that's all she pretty much does. But I'm puzzled because she usually drools a lot when she gets excited and goes out for car rides with the windows down. Ever since she was a puppy she drooled a lot and pants a lot after running a bit. I'm just worried I've fucked up my dog and given her brain damage. Do you think I should take my dog to the vet to get scans? Or am I being a paranoid dog parent?
