Oh my gosh, I didn’t realize it wasn’t just me whenever the moves doesn’t register for Plank and Mountain Climber. I always have to fumble around with my leg strap to readjust it so it could read my movement. Turns out it’s just the game itself 😬
@MasterTrainerPeter
4 жыл бұрын
Leg strap positioning does play a part, but more often than not I'm hearing about the move not registering well when performed with proper form. So it pushes you to do incorrect form to get it better in game. So weird! Someone recommended to me that doing push ups for planks is better than doing the planks, and I'm finding that more beneficial tbh
@MyaoChan808

Master Trainer Peter ohh that sounds like a good idea! I’ll definitely try out those push ups and see if they work out. Thank you :)
@Pippemi
3 жыл бұрын
It was the same for me, but I’ve realised after practicing with mountain climbers you just need to do almost an 180 degree twist of your leg. You need to go from really stretched with your leg out to really in, which you can only do if you take it a lot slower than the picture. Planks I still struggle with but it kills me whether I start from flat on the ground or in the proper form in a plank to start with so I’m not too worried.
@MrVariant
3 жыл бұрын
For plank I lay down on stomach to start with legs barely touching the floor to not touch leg strap. Then yeah it's like doing pushups but with core. Boat pose almost impossible for me to register. I'll do that without ring fit. It has a good range of motion though videos don't show that crazed range. Just hold poses. I don't take the adventure mode seriously as trainer is annoying and power creep is a pain; the game forces you to do exercises that do the most damage rather than customize or get circuit bonuses for either working the whole body, or superset the same muscles.

I use the overhead arm twist as a sort of 'resting' move when I'm doing something that tires me out a lot more, like a lot of core stuff (if I had to do planks and then leg rises one after the other I might just snap in half). It's similar for the overhead arm spin. It's fairly easy and lets me take an easy turn and to breath a little before I do more leg rises.

So, all three (not squat-related) moves that I avoided like the plague most of the time because of their cruel difficulty made it on the list. It was especially satisfying to see Plank that high and I found it interesting how the three moves are so problematic mainly because of the game's implementation. And I felt bad that I could only pull them off by "cheating" (e.g. performing Plank with the knees on the ground or Mountain Climber by only moving the leg with the strap). The only other moves I have real difficulties with are the squat ones. Heck, after a squat-heavy session I'm pretty much incapacitated for two days.

Thanks for the vid!! I feel so relieved. Because of my dyspraxia it's very hard for me to see/feel when I'm messing up an exercise. So I rely heavily on the scoring feedback. For most exercises, if I get a high score consistently, my body feels good afterwards (tired but satisfied and without pain). But for plank and mountain climbers it often hurts after getting high scores. (Boat pose too but that went away after I put something soft on the floor) I assumed the pain was my fault for "using the wrong muscles" - a comment I heard back in school a lot - but for once the cause for that may be external to me and my disability! When the world allows it again, I'll have to see about having someone monitor my movements as I play and help me adjust them to be healthy. Until then I'll swap these two out for alternatives that hurt less :)

Attack damage varies a bit between levels (there are 4 levels of each move!), but I agree its frustrating when you want a tougher workout. That said, you can always use the lower power moves to extend the workout too! As much as Mountain Climbers and Planks are tough, I'd rather they not be highest damage. Definitely agree with Mountain Climber and Plank. Mountain Climber, like you mentioned, can have trouble with registering the in-game timing, so I end up getting a lower Gym score (40s-100s per rep) a bit more often in comparison to the other exercises. Also, during the full set of reps consistently on Difficulty 30 can be a bit taxing after doing prior exercises. Plank, tbh, just hurts my arms -- mostly my elbows -- after a while. The routine itself isn't too bad, but the "Hold" portion, like you mentioned, makes completing the routine significantly more difficult to do consistently. As such, I only really use Plank during the challenges that restrict which exercises you can do. Boat Pose, on the other hand, isn't too rough for me, though trying to do the routine while keeping my back off the floor took some getting used to.

I am not motivated by physical or health goals at all and more storyline based, mentally stimulating things like Zombie Run podcast a story unlocked by chapters with gps walking, Pokemon Go where you collect pokemons by walking and suddenly a part of Poke-community or Fit Ring where whole game opens up ....is what distracts the mind from the body, if it makes sense? Because it is not the body, that is the issue.The body has unbelivable capabilities. It is the mind, that screws up and brings up every single insecurity up to the surface, and it is humiliating and rather sad when something like not knowing how to use a gym tool is enough of a reason to never go back to the gym. I've been toying with the idea of trying to get into a habit of exercising for a while now. I have chronic back and right shoulder problems/pain and figured I could benefit from it as far as helping to build my strength and endurance. Especially when I've always benefited from physical therapy. Had some of that new year motivation in me and bought it New Years Eve. The game seemed like a really good introduction without being overwhelming. Been taking it slow, started with 10 minutes that day and increasing it by a couple minutes each day. Tonight I did an 18-minute work out which I was super proud of. Eventually, I'd like to do at least 30 minutes. Might not seem like much to most, but when you live with chronic pain it's a big feat! Well, I unlocked planking tonight. Against my better judgment, I gave it a whirl. I think I'll be staying away from it as far as the game is concerned. When I first clicked on this video I was really hoping you'd say planking was #1. I completely agree that the way it's implemented in-game, it puts more strain on your shoulders. My bursitis flared up a bit, nothing bad, but my shoulder is not happy. Sorry for the rambling! But I wanted to thank you so much for your Ring Fit content. I've been watching your videos the last couple of nights and they've been really helpful for both an exercise newbie and someone new to the game.

That slow build up is fantastic, and especially considering the challenges you have with pain, you should be so proud of yourself! Just make sure to take rest days to let your body heal up as well! I'm glad you're going to avoid planking, if you have chronic shoulder issues, its definitely not going to be good for you. Thankfully there are minimal areas where it is 'required'. I'd also be wary of the Mountain Climbers owing to the positioning that your shoulder are; its similar to the plank, but without quite the same weight bearing. I'm really glad the videos are helping! Hopefully they'll help you get a more quality workout each time too!

to get the most out of the overhead arm twist, you have to also squeeze your glutes and activate your abs to get the most out of it, but they only seldom mention that. i definitely agree with the mountain climbers. i never cared too much for them as an exercise, but i can never figure out how the game wants me to do them to get a maximum score. when it comes to boat pose, the movement of my arms are usually enough to slowly lower me down and my legs seem to almost move on their own to counter-balance. the only thing i might be concerned about would be strain on the lower back as that's generally the only issue i see, otherwise, it feels like the leverage from moving my arms does most of the work while my core works with them to keep pace. i think the overhead arm spin is supposed to be an exercise for really focusing on your upper back and shoulders as most exercises would probably only workout certain parts of your shoulders, but maybe i'm wrong. i feel like the problem with the plank is just the fact that it's not exactly a plank anymore and it tends to workout my upper back and glutes more than the rest of my core. it's really just a strange modified version that took awhile for me to be able to do them consistently, but a it doesn't help in the same way a normal plank would

Knees to chest is really hard for me to do for some reason. I feel like I’m always doing it wrong and no matter how many slightly different changes I try to get the form done right I always still feel like something is wrong. For example, it makes my lower back hurt. I still get the ab workout, but my lower back ends up being the main reason why I have to stop and take a break. I try my best to keep my back straight but I just find the position awkward and hard to do right in general
@MasterTrainerPeter
3 жыл бұрын
That very much sounds like tightness in the glutes and hips that is pulling on the lower back. I suggest stretching them out, and seeing if that eases the back. In this specific scenario, it sounds more likely for the glutes and hamstrings to be tight as its a posterior issue.

It's kind of bad game design when your current best fit skills for a category are the easiest ones with minor health benefits, like I'm currently stuck with Overhead Arm Twist Lv. 3 & Overhead Arm Spin Lv. 3 being the best red skills by far and I would put myself at a deliberate disadvantage if I wouldn't use them. I haven't gotten a better red skill for weeks now and thus I'm currently not getting any proper arm workout from Adventure Mode.
@MasterTrainerPeter

It seems like poor planning, yes. I'm not at that same level as you, so I'm not sure how it plays out, but can you use the skill tree to unlock any better arm moves?
@Creamworks

@@MasterTrainerPeter Unfortunately I nearly unlocked everything in the skill tree already and there are no better moves anymore. I googled today if there will be another level of moves to unlock later on, and yes there is a 4th level for every move that will make all moves more balanced damage-wise. However, apparently you only unlock that in world 47 and I just finished 25 today, so that's still a long way till I get those. If there's actually no way to get better arm moves until then, I think I'll equip the less powerful (but more demanding) moves again and buff them with smoothies to make them viable.

I don’t have to put my knees out for mountain climbers but I was struggling massively with them registering to start with. I find I just have to go a lot slower than the diagram, starting really stretched out behind you and twisting your leg almost 180 degrees up to your chest as much as you can.
@MasterTrainerPeter
3 жыл бұрын
By twisting, do you mean bringing them in towards the midline of your body? See, this is the thing. Mountain Climbers shouldnt involve that sort of rotation at the chest, its unnecessary for the effect that it attempts to achieve. Good on you for finding a slow, controlled movement that works, but I'd be concerned about hip stability and the spine in that movement.

God, I hated the plank. It was hell on my body, especially since it’s introduced so early into the game! My first thought was, “Oh, hey! A higher-damage core exercise! I’ve done planks before, it shouldn’t be too bad!” And then they did the raises, and the whole thing went allllll the way down to my least favorite exercise. I could understand normal planking, but this wasn’t a very good move. I still used it, because it did great damage early on, but it hurt. I’d have rather done 3 sets of knee-to-chests in a row at that point than do it again.

The overhead arm spin has actually been really interesting to me lately. My most recent time playing, I wound up doing it a lot and every time, it felt like my entire torso was popping like CRAZY on every spin. I'm trying to keep a good variety of skills, but I don't know which ones are better than others

Very glad you found it interesting Ric! By skill combinations, you mean for adventure, yes? I guess it depends what you want to do; complete the levels or focus on specific training areas. When I play Adventure, I try to have a variety of skills hitting different amounts of targets and with different colours to get super effective hits as best as possible. Due to the levels needing different colour focuses down the line, I honestly find myself changing my skill sets out quite often and prioritise whats best to do that level. If I'm taking a particularly difficult skill (Boat Pose/Mountain Climber [when im trying to get perfect reps without sacrificing form, that is!] or Warrior 3) I'll often take an easier skill (Overhead Hip Shake/Warrior 2) as active recovery for after :) Does that help at all? Still, its certainly a video topic I'll consider!
@Ruesen
4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, some of these I understood; I never benefited much from arm twist or its spin. Boat pose I enjoy though i'm not trained in it, and can recognize its iffy position due to a past experience; I was tired when i did it in one long session and found my muscles near lower rib cage felt bruised for a few days. Plank though? I enjoy it actually, and never have problems with the tracking of it. And I still feel some of the good tension in my core on use. Not as much as a regular plank, but still felt okay. Mountain climber... I hate it yet i force myself to do it. The counter never registers enough of it, but I mostly enjoy the cardio portion. I do find myself getting head rushes from it though on particularly longer sets. I personally find all but the original squat to be rather bad at least in terms of tracking. Wide Squat I worry i'll hurt myself trying to get it to register a good score. For future video ideas, I would love opinions on custom training sets for when going for a particular quick style work out. Like cardio sets, stretching sets, etc. The games auto-arranger often includes games and god I many they recommend. I suppose mini game assessment wouldn't be a bad idea either!

Hey Ruesen! So, glad you got the point with where I was going with the video! For the plank, if you're feeling its doing good and you're able to get it to work ok, then thats cool! I find a lot of people telling me that they aren't able to get it to register well, and I find fairly often that I am unable to get it to register without an additional arch, and I worry about peoples backs during the movement. The fact that the counter doesnt register properly is my issue with Mountain Climber. I get it 100% of the time with jumping out my knees laterally, but theres a slight twist in the back to do it, which I feel isnt great for you. If it registers whilst you're performing it with a straight knee drive, then sweet! But a lot of the time it doesnt, and then it detracts fromthe exercise :) I've got a few playlists done already, with one based on flexibility coming out in the next few weeks! If you like the custom mode, there are a few cardio ones in here: Playlist 1 - Weight Loss - kzitem.info/news/bejne/t5V7sIuZhZyLe4o Playlist 2 - Endurance - kzitem.info/news/bejne/kWas2Z-LcYV-f4I Playlist 3 - Strength - kzitem.info/news/bejne/tmuix6p_m4N7hHY Playlist 4 - Core Conditioning - kzitem.info/news/bejne/upCX1IyqrImAiZg Playlist 5 - Weight Loss 2 - kzitem.info/news/bejne/uKWL26Cqs6hmeY4 Any particular goal you're after?

Thank god im not the only one who had issues with the mountain climbers in this game. I recently beat the game for the first time and I’m planning to start the New Game + soon, but even so, every time I encountered a fitness set in the game with them, I audibly yelled “NOOOOOO!” The move isn’t the problem, I actually think it’s a great workout. The issue is that it never registers correctly. It ends up really pissing me off, even making me quit early at one point. The worst part of it (for me) is when you have to complete a certain quest that requires you to get an average of 90 points or more. It brings down the point total in the results screen down significantly. It never made me fail the quest, but I was constantly worried that it would.

I gotta say I agree with all of these moves being the worst, but I do enjoy using overhead arm twist for 2 reasons, 1. To take a break from moves I get tired of such as Overhead Press and Bow Pull and 2. To get some quick damage on enemies. I have started playing this game since late march this year and as someone who doesn't enjoy working out, this game at least tries to make it fun. The other moves I completely agree with. I either use them and despise them and never want to use the move again like mountain climber and Plank or I just have no desire to use them due to me nit unlocking them yet and you showing them lol.

I hate everything about the plank except the fact it's a decently strong multi-target move. Not only is the movement detection poor (it's counted a couple of times I've stood still as reps, and sometimes I've had to lower my hips lower than usual for the rep to count), but the motions go against the entire point of the plank, which is to remain rigid _like a plank is supposed to be_ to strengthen your core muscles.

Hey, sorry for the late reply! If you're looking to build core strength in general, some of the easier moves are Overhead Hip Shake (ensure to be still, stand tall and generate movement solely from the hip), Overhead Bend (feet planted, bending solely at the hip - this will aid the posterior chain to held build the strength for Boat Pose), Seated Leg Raise (a tougher move, but only from the resistance gravity gives - try lower reps at first!) and Knee To Chest (similar to Boat Pose but less stress on the body, just be careful about internal rotation at the hips). These help build the core strength needed to take Boat Pose on!

Hm, Mountain Climber works for me properly and I'm actually quite overweight. (So it freaking kills me, but I swear I can do it right when rested.) Perhaps the way the game registers your jogging/high-stepping movements on initial setup figures into how some of these moves are registered as well.

It should theoretically be the same, as its a very similar movement. I wonder if it is to do with signal being blocked by the arms, but then I change position and its still doing similar problems.
