With the retro marketing taking place trying to get the industry out of the sales doldrums (sales have been flat for about 15 years) I wonder why anyone would spend a lot of money for a new motorcycle that emulates a classic when you can actually buy the classic for less money! If I were in the market for a Retro style bike, I would not buy a new one, I would buy the nicest CB-750 I could find. I consider the CB-750 as the most influential and one of the best-looking motorcycles ever made. One of my other favorites not mentioned here is the Honda 305 CL-77. While the CB-750 was futuristic, the 305 Scrambler would be the only other classic from the era that would interest me. Even today, both of these bikes have retained their appeal.

Then there’s the gold wing and CX500, Yamaha XT500, Suzuki GS750, Yamaha diversion…The list goes on and on..so many great bikes out of Japan back in the day. We really were spoilt for choice.

The Model having 90 HP is the 1978/79 Z1-R (1015cc engine) and totally different style.

The CB750 was NOT the first production 750cc motorcycle with a transverse four cylinder engine. That was the MV Agusta 750 Sport, which also had double overhead cams. It was preceded by the MV Agusta 600 - in 1966. Try researching the subject before badly teaching an AI ap to read your mistakes.

Yes it is true that Honda made some of the most beautiful and exciting motorcycles out there, but that was a very long time ago. There is not a single new Honda motor bike on sale in 2024, that is half as good as the 1960 -1970's models. Honda just as with all other motorcycle manufacturers have totally lost their way! Modern Honda motorbikes, are unwanted technology ridden , horrible heaps, with a rats nest of water pipes for massive unsightly radiators, where once you would see a gleaming engine! RIP motorcycle design I am too sad to continue, those of you old enough remember the zenith of motor cycle design, its long gone now!

Must be among the worst "list of classics" ever? Depending on what you want to focus on, I'd say Japans Top 7 list has to start with the Kawasaki H2 750, followed by the CB 750, taking the sportbikes from 2 strokes to four. Then Suzuki went from one cam and 8 valves, to twin cam and 16 valves with the GSX -I'd put the 1100 Katqana on the list as it boasts design and twin cam tech. Next on the list is also a Suzuki GSX; The 1985 GSXR 750, who made racebikes availeble right out of the crate. The next is a bit more challengeing, I say 5th place on the list is a tie between Yamaha FZR750R, OW01 and the Honda RC30 -we loved both of them but you never admitted to it.. You were either a Honda guy or a Yamaha dude, loveing one openly, desireing the other secretly.. The last of the top 7 is Honda NR 750 -I don't have to argue why.
@smartliving4464

No argument at all with the CB750, an absolute Japanese classic, but any list of top Japanese bikes that leaves out the Z1 900 is impossible to take seriously, to leave this machine out but include the Katana (???) is one of the strangest Japanese "bests of" I have ever seen.

I enjoyed the video a lot, but do not agree with the 750 Honda & the Z1 being so far down the list. They changed how the new breed of bikes of those days came about, and moved the bar up a few notches as to where motorcycles after them started to go, IMO. Currently own a "73 RD 350 & '73 Z1, both in stock form.
