I guess I would say I’m 5, I wouldn’t live lavishly, but could probably go 2-3 years at this point without working no problem

Go listen to Dave Ramsey. I didn't find him till I was 28 and it completely changed my life financial and otherwise. I'm 34 now and my mom never talked about money with me. All she ever said and says to this day is "save save save" yet she's always in debt and never has any extra money. She saves money on small things like not eating out or going to the movies but will get a loan for a brand new car at the drop of a hat. Mr. Ramsey taught me to look at debt as the enemy and I went to college debt free and paid off $26,000 all because of his methods.

what about investments for passive income?...

I wouldn’t keep 2 years living expenses as a liquid asset. I would invest it instead. I do have six monthes living expenses saved. Plus I’m a nurse so I have a guaranteed income for life as long as I still want to work. Work hard, play harder.

I'm at 3, almost 4. Have credit paid off and 3 months of living expenses saved, working on 6 months. I'm 50, single mom of 4. Would have achieved much earlier but I was raising kids and went through divorce.

I wouldn't agree on the 2nd level as you have to move out of your parents house tho, I think if you're paying for your own groceries and utilities bills, that's already self sufficient.

45, step 6...But I disagree with the definitions here. He talks about how much money you have, but no mention of cash flow. One of my income streams pays me about 6-8k a month for doing almost nothing, but it isnt money in the bank, its a service buisiness. My net worth is in the millions, but that isnt the issue, it is how much that money cash flows for you.

Cash flow is important but cash flow typically derives from your networth which is what I think of when he discusses these levels. Whether it's your business giving you cash flow, a house or a pension you can still calculate what that lump sum value of those assets. It's not as straightforward as a stock bond portfolio that's providing you cash flow in dividends or growth but it can be done.
