The problem with recent Chinese lenses is that the elements are usually not fully coated, especially the ones inside, causing them to flare much more easily and most importantly, the actual light transmission is much lower than the F value, which is not much of a problem for digital users or people using for bokeh, but a huge deal for film shooters where we can't bump up the ISO and risk severe color shifts when underexposing. I didn't get to try this 28 1.4 yet, but the mitakon 50 0.95 has a t value of almost 1.4, whereas the Leica Noct. is at 0.98 and the f1 version is at 1.05, thats a huge deal for film shooting. Which I cannot blame them as the optical quality is usually great for the price and coating all the elements both sides will yield a much higher price, but it's something one should consider before buying, btw some modern Voigtlanders have similar problems
@GxAce

@passcomcompass2623

yea would love to know that information. I recommend just taking a shot at 1.4 with the 7 artisans and switching to a modern summilux whatever focal length and take some shots in between 1.4 - 2 with the exact same scene, preferably indoors at night. match the exposure level closest to Leica's f stop and add 0.05 or so, should be close enough to the t stop. I'd do it on digital though as scanners can have mandatory compensations on exposures.@@GxAce

Were all the talking shots in this set up? Thanks for putting the time into making these videos.

I agree. Fantastic lens. Have it since december 2018. Really really good. I am glad to pay more.. i paid 640,- euro in the Netherlands. I haven’t try the 50mm f1.1, but that lens looks more toy-ish with the weird bokeh. Hope they make a superfast 35mm with this quality and with rangefinder coupling in future. The only small drawback is the lensglare if you have lightobjects in your frame like a lamp... but i can live with that

Voigtlander is amazing for sure, but they don't have a 28 1.4. yes, they have the 28 1.9 LT and 2.9 M, but if you mount that on an APSC lens, it's depth of field feels like a 40 with an f3. Since I do indeed shoot on a Fujo APSC, the 1.4 gives me a 40 f2 feel which is fantastic. All that said, the Voigtlander is under half the weight and almost half the size and offers amazing character. If you shoot full frame, get the Voigtlander f2, because 1.4 of full frame is overrated in my opinion. Anywho, enough rambling.

Color really isn't a factor for me with lenses. Digital color correction is so good that it extremely easy to match the minute color variance of different lenses. I’ve I don’t have the money for a used Leica, Voigtländer or Zeiss lens, I would buy a cheaper camera and an useable lens. The lens makes the photo! Not the camera.

Why not? I'd rather be open to trying all different types of lenses and have fun using my camera. I love leica lenses and of course they are amazing, but I love trying and using any lens. Why limit yourself? You are only missing out. The point is these lenses aren't trash hahah. The wheel analogy doesn't work. For one the bolt pattern would be different so you cannot even mount Fiat wheels on a Mercedes. Tires can change performance, but general car performance is primarily an OBJECTIVE thing. Lens characteristics and image making is SUBJECTIVE. Different lenses give different looks and no look is objectively better. Just take a look at the cinematography world. People intentional remove coatings or get lenses degraded on purpose to reduce the perfect image quality to add more character to the image. Enjoy not being able to try all kinds of lenses on your camera. Leave more for the fun people to play with. ;P

no comments about bokhe charactericist witch is boring, about bad red dot, about cheap finger holder. size and weight is connected to physics. if you cant what then dont buy f/1.4

Totally digging the vibe! Combining my two favorite things; scifi and photography lol. And the content is great, highly, highly considering this lens especially since every other 28mm for an M8 is just as expensive or more expensive

I love your intro, i love the music and i love the fact that you add grain to your photos which honestly look so darn good. Every other youtuber is preaching on making the cleanest most crisp image while you, ma man you're on that real tip. Thanks for the content.

I just bought this lens to use on my X-T4! I absolutely loved your images. I was torn between this and the 27mm 2.8, but a 2.8 max aperture did not seem to be the best choice for me. So, I chose this. I am hoping that I will love it.

GxAce Hi, superb video! M mount lens On your XT3? Could you let us know what adapter brand you use? (I hear Fuji has a dedicated M mount adapter...). Thanks.

Kirk McCormack I’m using the Haoge Macro Focus adapter. It lets you focus the lens closer than the minimum distance while still allowing infinity focus. I wish the Fuji adapter did that since that adapter has a button to bring up the focal length setting in the menu. I use these macro adapters on my A7s as well. They are the best adapter in my opinion because they make the lenses more versatile.

Did you have to adjust any of the 7artisans lenses? It’s my only hold back from getting some of their lenses
@GxAce

I had to adjust both the 35 and 28 but it takes 2 seconds and requires you to loosen two screws! I believe in you! You can do it!

Since you are a Leica user I can understand your photo style... I wish to see more the 'sooc' type of thing, to have a feel how the character of lens really is... The photos are green-brownish, even on Fuji I wish to see more sharpness of the results... more daily photos with sunlights (less dark photos and post-pro) would tell more about the lens.... Your review is helpful, but I think it was too personal to your taste... Btw I use Sony and voigtlander.
@GxAce

This is very true! I will try to figure out a good balance between my style and a more unbiased look at the lens performance. I like to see what the lens is capable of producing and less of a baseline image, but I can see a benefit to that! thanks!

Here's hoping the Chinese get around to making a digital rangefinder [perhaps using an off the shelf sony sensor]. I sold my M9 after the 2nd sensor went bad and was replaced with the 'corrected' one, so honestly, fuck ever buying Leica again for all that drama.. and Cosina has made it clear after 15 years they are never making another digital camera.

Hey, love the production quality! I have a few questions about the lens: Would it work with .85 M6? I see you have a photo shot by XT-3, would it work with the Fuji lens adapter? Thanks! P.S. Hope you like your trip to China
@GxAce
5 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! This was my second time to China. I was in 宁波. It will work on a .85 m6 but that version does not have frames lines for 28mm so you would need a external viewfinder or just guess what the frame would be. I was shooting it on the XT3 with an m-mount adapter.

Great review! I've been using the Meike 25mm T2.2 for the past week and I really wish Meike put as much effort in their glass as 7Artisans does.
@GxAce

7Artisans are clearly a group of Leica geeks that are trying to make their own lenses to use on their cameras. That is the type of people I want making lenses ;)
