I like Yord, at a distance. I don't know what the general consensus is on this character, but I get the sense he tries to project Jedi authority because he's in love with the idea of being a Jedi. He's all prim and proper and perfectly manicured, he's got the Jedi codex memorised, he's a bookworm, stuffy Jedi. I bet his master was Ki Adi Mundi or someone else equally inflexible. But like any Jedi, he still feels the weight of The Force and life so he has a softer side, which he offers to Osha as we've seen. It's probably all a front for something, probably insecurity, it's hard to say without them exploring him more.

One weird critique ive seen is saying there was all this build up for Kelnacca and it was wasted and I dont really agree. We saw a kinda cool action scene with him and then just knew he was a Wookie Jedi. If his every mention talked about his warrior status, powers in the force and singing voice just be die off screen that would be a wasted built up character. I guess when i think of someone like that I think of Phasma. Hiring Gwendolyn at her height of popularity on GoT, a cool costume and then nothing happens. I think of Sam Elliot in Ghost Rider "Lets ride to the bad guy.....oh I actually only had enough power to literally ride to the bad guy bye"

Fucking evil cliffhanger. Before i thought Qimir was just another acolyte but right now i really think he is the Sith. The subtle hand movements from the masked Sith really resemble his behaviour plus they have the same build. Also he seems quite powerful, not a single Jedi was able to resist his Force Push attack. Doubt they all were underestimating him after seeing the red lightsaber. Nice cameo with Ki Adi Mundi there. What is the life expectancy for his species? By the wat i wonder why Sith shark spared Osha. Maybe he senses that she can be turned now that Mae lost her nerve after realizing her sister is alive? Sol did promised to tell everything to Osha after they get back to the ship, i wonder how she will react to the truth about what really happened in Brendok. Also Venestra covering things from the Jedi Council has the potential to bite them in the ass.

I like to think of him as a stick in the mud, but I think Kyle Katarn said it best. "Yord is a tool with a heart of gold", and it just keeps being so funny! That good guy who's kind of douchey, kind of like a Jedi Jordan Shelansky, for the fellow Conan fans out there. Really too bad Kelnacca was killed before we got a chance to know him properly and see how he felt about what happened with Osha and Mae. That's the only decision with this show I've really objected to so far, as 25 year fan, killing him off. I was very much hoping to see some live action Wookie lightsaber combat too. We were able to get Carrie Ann Moss's character, Torbin, and Sol's thoughts or state of mind about what had occurred before the first two perished. Couldn't believe how short this episode felt. I thought the plot arc on this planet was JUST about to get going when it was over. Apparently the next episode is the writer's favorite. Looking forward to it. Bound to be some good sabering, hopefully with Dafne Keen's character. I'm looking forward to seeing her fighting style. Helmet design of The Master is honestly a ton better when seen in close up in this episode, better than I first thought at least. Looked just like jagged drawn on teeth on a toy proto-Vader mask in the trailer, but now we see that it's some interesting piping kind of a thing. Awesome that we got a bit of young Ki Adi Mundi cameo, and I guess apparently that wasn't Plo Koon, just a member of his race, even though he looks to my eyes more like the Master Plo we know than young Mundi looks like older Mundi... haha.

@joshuaash3149

I'm assuming there will be some kind of flashback to show it. I suspect they didn't want us to know he was dead before the heroes got there, because it would be exactly the same as Torbin's death (just with a different weapon). When a show does the same thing over and over, it gets less interesting, so a common workaround is to show different ways of doing the same thing, so that on paper, three Jedi are killed, but on screen, one was killed in a present-time action scene, one was killed with a present-time non-action scene, and now one is killed in a flashback action scene.

My issue with Yord is that (at least in the beginning) they made him seem somewhat incompetent in order to elevate Jecki. I love seeing strong female characters, but it's just lazy writing to make the males look stupid so the females look smarter by comparison. In any case, Yord did seem more bearable in this episode though. He had a genuinely wholesome moment with Osha. I also have an issue with the actor's arrogance. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but his take on good and evil fundamentally contradicts the core theme of Star Wars, as articulated by George Lucas himself. To add insult to injury, instead of humbly admitting he was wrong, he doubled down and stuck his foot in his mouth, claiming that "Anakin blew up the Death Star". Everyone makes mistakes, but I can't take you seriously, or consider your opinions on a franchise when you get basic trivia wrong. I can separate how I feel about the actor from how I feel about the character, as I assume most people can.

@@crankfastle8138 I have had a couple of very interesting and engaging conversations with people who don't like the show, and I had no problem with that. My problem is not with the people who dislike it legitimately. And let's also be clear here, disliking a show is not, in and of itself, toxic. Disliking a show is fair and valid. What is toxic is bullying the people who like it, insulting them, calling them names, etc. And review bombing without watching the show first is toxic. And calling for the showrunners to be fired or jailed is toxic. Having a civil and intelligent conversation about what you liked or did not like about the show, and listening to the other person's responses is not toxic at all and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
@crankfastle8138

@@joshuaash3149 this is all very fair. But the other issue is the same the other way. Think about it. Every person involved has immediately dismissed every criticism as hateful. Every person is hateful and have ignored the clearly erroneous aspects of the production. IMO the show is very poor in technical aspects, writing, and many canonically inaccurate uses of characters. The truth is star wars has just become an excuse for hateful people to be hateful on both sides including the actual producers too. Star wars is just ugly. But the fight chireo is well done.
@joshuaash3149

@@crankfastle8138 You're overgeneralizing here. I admit that there are many people who immediately dismiss the criticisms as you have said, but I am proof that not every person does. If you truly didn't like the show because of the reasons you cited, I have no problem with that. If you find Star Wars has grown to be "ugly", I recommend that you no longer watch it or even engage in conversations about the new show (just for the sake of your own mental health). You can watch the original trilogy and any other shows and movies to your heart's content without ever thinking about the Acolyte again, if that brings you peace. But unfortunately, if you don't like the show for the reasons you cited, then you seem to be more the exception than the rule. The sad fact is that most of the people who are hating the show have stated very clearly that they don't like the show because it is "too woke", meaning they don't want to see women, especially black women, in the lead role. Or perhaps they have no problem with women in lead roles, but they don't like the fact that there may be LGBTQ+ people in the show. And while there are a small number of people who are gutsy enough to actually come out and reveal themselves as homophobes, most of them know that they may be ostracized for it, so they hide like cowards behind the word "woke". As far as the reasons you cite, I can respect your opinion, but I still disagree with it. I think the technical aspects, including the effects, hold up to any of the other shows. I find the writing to be good; maybe not at the level of Andor, which I thought was amazingly well-written, but at least as good as the Mandalorian. And as far as canon is concerned, I have seen nothing that can definitively go against canon yet. Even Ki-Adi-Mundi's presence does not go against canon (unless you are referring to the Legends books, which have not been considered canon since long before Disney bought out LucasArts).
