I think you just encapsulated the value that Ryan brings by "talking to the camera." Sometimes in the past of media (TV, movies), certain people have been a success just because of who they are, - there's that certain engaging thing about them, and I think Ryan has that, whether he knew it to start with or not. I was an OG viewer of Doing It Ourselves and The Chateau Diaries, that's where I first saw Ryan. When he launched his own channel, I would watch, and when I realized that I kept clicking on his channel, I finally subscribed. I used to watch a whole string of related channels, but now I'm busier than I was or something has turned me off to those other channels, so now Ryan's channel and 3 others are the only ones I'm apt to watch. I just don't have time to fit them all in anymore without my own house falling down around my ears. Watching Ryan is like keeping in touch with your brother, son or nephew, who has a personality that elicits fond feelings.

Well, you confirmed my math. You bought it for 15K, selling price when done up may be 120-150K, so that leaves you about 100K for renovation. Also considering the roof is in good condition. I expect 120-150K for a midsize house in the middle of town is quite reasonable. And when done it will be a house with a lot of character. Just look at that old lantern on the corner of the house. That is a *MUST RESTORE* feature! Imagine the look of it when it is burning once more. Mysterious wisps of fog swirling around it. Very Vidocq! As for the tunnel, a coal shute seems unlikely to me because impractical. Also the foundation of the house, and also parts of the walls, seem more like 18th century or even earlier,. Like I suggested before, you might do some digging in the town archives. Could be interesting.

Thanks for the Q & A, I have been wondering about the positioning of the property/garden situation. 🤔Good question about adding a rear window 🪟, esp. from one of the higher elevations. 🤍Love a city or country view, but NOT convinced about adding MORE natural light. If there is some sort of vista 🏕, maybe he could 🛠 do it down the road. 😉Although perhaps the latest seller is happy he can't actually 👁👁gaze onto their property for privacy 🚧 reasons. Nothing worse than 😵💫nosy neighbors invading your space. 🏠Depending upon how his town house is oriented 🧭〰️& the climate〰️it could be a godsend he doesn't have windows on the rear side. He can reassess that as he 💪labors along. In 😎LA, we absolutely ROAST 🥵 from any windows with Western exposure. We need to keep everything shuttered on that side. Black-out curtains too. In every 🏡place🏢 I've ever lived in or visited here, that's always been the case🤣. We sizzle🔥. Energy costs to make it bearable w/o any natural shade🌳 are crazy high too. Adore sunsets 🌅, but I'd rather skip it if it means MORE misery 💸money or temp wise🌡. No matter what, I'm sure it's NOT a priority at this stage. 😔Unless he's feeling landlocked. I don't know what permission he would need from the town, but if he could, later, it might be nice to put a flat roof on the shorter part, steel beams to support it well, a very slight slope to the roof for drainage, maybe into a rain barrel the neighbors (who sold him the place) could use for their garden. A flat roof would allow for a very nice patio, that, with a couple of carved, pierced, wooden, folding screens, could even be used as a sleeping porch on hot summer nights.

I love your videos and your personality. I know you do short videos and are probably paying as your money builds up. That takes time when you renovate as funds build up I know you will end up with a fantastic home in your own time. Do you and they can take a hike.

Ryan, you are just Ryan and that's how you will always be. There are those armchair critics who will criticize anyone and everything because they have never done anything like it in their lives. But as for the house, it's got more potential than the critics think. Ignore all the negatives and always think and stay positive. Remember, To always look on the bright side of life As a thought, set yourself a rough timeline and you have to keep to it. We have a project going a the timeline is 5 years although we are 8 years plus into the project, it is still a 5 year project in our mind.

Please ignore the haters. I think those people stalk all sorts of pages so they can input their negativity. Do not waste your time or emotions. I look forward to all your videos. You are a great producer. The only thing I like to see is having each episode numbered so I know if I’ve missed anything. Keep up the great work you do. Both with your videos and your reconstruction. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

Ryan you have been doing these videos long enough not to let silly people get you down. You will always get people saying upsetting things because they get some enjoyment out of doing so. Do not i repeat do not respond to trolls or anybody saying nasty things. Just get on with your life and enjoy what your doing, most people enjoy video content. If it takes ten years to finish it, so be it, it's your life.

Actually it’s a small house. We are not talking about chateau here. It shouldn’t cost you a fortune to fix it up. You could make it absolutely charming. In the end the accomplishment will feel intoxicating. Cheering you on Ryan each step of the way! You’ve got this. It will be a labor of love ❤

Questions for your next Q&A: Is that a war memorial there in the public car park directly in front of your house? If so, which war? I am curious about it. You've got a bit of history practically right outside your door. Also, when are you planning on giving us a tour of the village? You mentioned you were planning to do so in one of your latest videos and I would really love to see it when you get the chance. It might make a good Sunday video some time in the very near future (can you tell I am a dreadfully impatient person? Only joking, do it in your own sweet time.).😝😂Edit: I forgot to say, I love your content. You're doing a fabulous job, Ryan.

I love history and hope Ryan can sit down and tell a story about the house, its beginnings, who bought it, build it and what was their trade. I was assuming it was either a bar or an inn at the beginning due to its narrowness and the angle of the house and the street.

Ryan I am so proud of you. Please just ignore these jealous moaning minis, they really aren't worth your time or energy. Your true fans will be behind you 100%. you have bought a house, yes it needs renovating but you bought it. These negative people just can't believe you have a house, you are now on the property ladder and have NO mortgage, so once the property is renovated and if and when you decide to sell it you wiill be able to buy a property with a garden if you desire one. Having no mortgage is such a great feeling too. I bought my first house without a mortgage thanks to the help of my late mum. Keep up the hard work. X

I think it looks like the tunnel entrance, was an original outside basement entrance, to a much smaller home. The home was added to above where the entrance was, leaving the trap door. Just a think. Cheers.

What’s wrong with people eh Ryan? Some people just are nasty humans and spend their days being critical. You make me laugh so I like watching your videos. I just retired this year, but spend 1/2 the week looking after my beautiful grandchildren, cooking, cleaning, gardening and watching your Channel, Billy’s, Sadie’s, the Moons, Phil’s, Ed’s, Stephanie’s, Sean’s and a couple of others gives me great joy. It's only when you own a property that you discover what kind of property owner you are. You also become very excited about other people's projects because you understand the fundamental change of lifestyle. Ryan takes pleasure in renovating and talking about it, I enjoy watching his progress. I just hope he's been watching escape to rural France to see what he may need to do and look for to replace his floors.

Hello Ryan! First and foremost, congratulations on your purchase of this house! I am curious if you have or know the history of the house? How old is it, was the ground floor originally a store and what was the surrounding area like when it was first built? I love history and look forward to seeing what you discover as you continue to demo and rebuild.

When I bought my home in southern Missouri seven years ago it was a real deal. Seven years later only one room repaired it's worth twice what I paid. If occupied homes don't decrase they increase. Do the work and you will be happy with the results. It's your home ...enjoy.

1. Plan layout carefully. 2. Check and treat wood 3. Re-wire the electrics. 4. Insulate - look for grants. Not sure which department your house is but my guess is once renovated, about €80K - watch those pennies!

Grants can be tricky in that then government there usually butts in a lot more than normal. Can make it more costly in the end.

Maybe a best of both worlds, turn it into a sunroom, with a traditional tile floor and a little iron table and chairs and a few low care plants. Pay a trustworthy neighbor a little to water them and take in your letters when you're traveling.

Ryan some people will complain about anything just to get attention no mater where you are or what you are doing. Even if in the future you try to make money from your videos there is still no way any KZitemr can force their viewers to pay to watch while still keeping your channel public. Even if you don’t make a large profit when you eventually sell this place the money spent on renovations is still money spent on learning new skills while learning by doing the renovations. Keep on being you and the viewers who like watching your work will keep on watching!
