A few extra tips: - Brood boosting sometimes works with different species from the same genus. Try to aim for same species group though. - You can sometimes brood boost with workers if you can find callows. - Ant colonies hate blacklights, so you can use them to get them to move. - Pisces feeders are usually overpriced at most pet stores, so buying them in bulk online is much cheaper, especially if you want to breed crickets. (good luck with that though) Crazy Kritters has the cheapest crickets in Australia. - If you need to provide workers for parasitic queens, make sure to use callows only. Don't make the same mistake as I did with my Papyrius... (。_ 。) - If you can afford a 3d printer and have a lot of colonies, it's so worth it. I bought an Ender 3 recently and it's been so helpful for antkeeping. That Papyrius queen was tough though... she even survived a few hours in my dad's pocket!

Thank you for the info on Crazy Kritters. I bought from reptile realm just a week ago and now looking at the new site.. i would have loved to know that a week ago. so much cheaper! will shop there next time! Also the idea to use black light to move colonies never crossed my mind. thank you for the info!

Micheal cronk, i had 2 Queens 2 years ago its when i started. But they didn't get workers i was like, it Will come you know but it didn't, last year i caught 10 Queens myself and they all have workers now, how you may ask? Because you cant focus on Them all they grow without you noticing because your busy with the other colonies

Experimenting with diet may be beneficial and interesting, as ants will be able to obtain different nutrients. There is a drawback though, some vegetables and fruits may be sprayed with pesticides, so make sure you washed and removed skin from what ever you decide to feed to your ants. This may be especially good practice, if you have your own garden. P.S. I knew an ant keeper that fed his colony with cucumbers, because ants preferred it to other offering. Although, I think a pear or orange would do better in most cases. ( Experimenting may be safer, from giving smaller quantity to large colony)

Your ants will need air circulation. A lid with ventilation ☝️ But never blow a fan at them on purpose. Ants like mealworms need holes on their lid, in order to breath ☝️ But make sure the hole on the lid, is steel mesh wire so no escaping ants ☝️

12:50 LMAO you compare VERY different sizes and types of ants. There are some that can climb anything and those that can't! or not well! Messor Barbarus have no issue climbing that tub and will wear down that powder in a few weeks.

Few tips on feeding I suggest feeding them rice as it is soft and easy to eat and never hesitate on what your giving them ants can eat anything choc, mold you name it but i suggest you feed them rice, oil bread, fresh dead insects this is because ants sometimes do not bother such as Rhytidoponera metallica so this is depending on how deadly the species are i also recommending watering the soil 2 times a day. because they can drink the water through the soil and it keeps their home healthy if you need more just tell me i've studied ants 7 years so i probably know

I brood boosted 2 Campontus Consibrinus colonies successfully. I brood boosted an alate from one of the colonies and she denied the brood. What I found: Colonies will more likely accept brood because the workers believe the brood is outside and will bring it inside. As queens know what brood they have they will not accept. 2 reasons for this: 1: they might be scared and not know what they are faced with. 2: Since the queens are in a claustral chamber, in the wild brood wouldn't suddenly appear

The part about the capture had me cracking up. The oddest one I’ve done was having my saliva on my finger and holding down an crude tipi around the carpenter ant. I had a mile walk back to my carefully holding this delicate little structure around a number of people. When I got in for a better look… literally a super major. That day spent like an hour on recognizable differences but I think that “mistake” made me more into the idea lol
