It's really cool to see Gary play with the same spark and energy he did back in the 70's. He's overlooked, I feel like even for his time his precision and consistency on the guitar was way above average.

What an outstanding performance! Stays true to the original with just enough 'new' to take it to modern standards. Hats off, Three Friends.

As a young man I collected almost all The Gentle Giant albums, saw them at 3 venues in Boston, Mass., and was lucky enough to do a long and gracious interview with Shulman, Shulman and Minnear for a small radio station. Listening to 'Three Friends' playing live reminds me that the composition of this music was high art as well as great fun for repeated listening. Like classical music, as long as it is played well, it does not require that the original writers perform the music. It only requires skill and a dedication to the love of what this music once was, and still can be.

I'm not agree at all with you. It is so obvious that this song requires some instruments that they can't play. All the flutes are missing, and the song lose almost all of its original appeal. Good effort by the group, but they are very far from what this piece and others demand from the performers. Its sound like a regular rock song, instead of that renacentis air that the original has. And that's a BIG, BIG DIFFERENCE. They are far away to reach the astonishing musical and performing level that Gentle Giant acquire. I guess yougsters would appreciate what this group do on stage, but the result is very poor and very unsatisfactory. You can see how far are this group from the savage mastery of the original Gentle Giant live performance on this video from the same song, is like listenig Beethoven on an electric Yamaha piano instead of a real piano. Like day from night. So far are this guys from Gentle Giant. kzitem.info/news/bejne/0IFqyamOg5NohHo

Just compare the instruments Gentle Giant use to play with absolute mastery and compare with this very poor rendition of this and other masterpieces: Derek Shulman: vocals, saxophone, recorder, bass, percussion Ray Shulman: bass, violin, acoustic guitar, recorder, trumpet, vocals, percussion Gary Green: guitars, recorders, vocals, percussion Kerry Minnear: keyboards (nine types of keyboards), cello, vibes, recorder, vocals, percussion John Weathers: drums, vibes, tambour, vocals, percussion
