Mark Twain's book about the adventures of the brave Tom Sawyer and his friend Huckleberry Finn has been filmed several times. This is an immortal classic of literature that has many fans, and it was the film adaptation of the legendary Odesa film studio that aroused considerable interest in the literary work. It should be noted that in the history of the Odessa Film Studio there are two attempts to film Twain’s novel - the film “Tom Sawyer” (1936, Odessa Film Factory “Ukrainfilm”) and “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn” (1981, Odesa Film Studio).
It is the film adaptation directed by Stanislav Govorukhin that we will talk about today. For on March 27, 1982, the PREMIERE of a three-part adventure film produced by the Odesa Film Studio took place on television, which today is considered one of the best films for children.
The film centers on the life story of very cheerful friends Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Even though they lived next to each other, sometimes it seemed like they were in different worlds. Tom was constantly in the sight of the elders, and Huckleberry was homeless and could afford to walk and do whatever he wanted. When Tom had the opportunity to meet Huckleberry Finn, they began to come up with various funny games and adventures together. The day came when the friends decided to find a real treasure. This idea turned out to be plausible. They found the treasure, but at the same time they started having problems with Injun Joe...
The film was shot in the Kherson region in the Berislavsky district, Odessa, Sukhum, in the Caucasus, some scenes in the village. Lviv near Kherson. The episode in the cave was filmed in the New Athos cave in Abkhazia. An interesting fact is that the “role” of the Mississippi River in the film was “played” by our Dnieper.
Igor Sorin (credited as Igor Raiberg) - As a child, after going through a big competition, he was selected for the role of Tom Sawyer, but on the eve of filming, Nikita Mikhalkov asked the film crew to take another boy - Fedya Stukov. The director of the film, Stanislav Govorukhin, granted this request. In desperation, Sorin jumped from the second floor, but the jump ended successfully. The administrators of the film crew, frightened by such a reaction from the child, offered him another, small role in the film - one of the boys (Joe Harper), which he played (listed in the credits as Igor Raiberg). Igor Sorin is a poet, musician, artist, former lead singer of the pop group Ivanushki International (1995-1998).
The film became not only another successful work of Stanislav Govorukhin as a director, but also opened the way to big cinema for talented actors. In addition, the director managed to return children's interest in the immortal works of the classics; we hope that today you will find the opportunity to watch the film again on the official channel of the Odessa Film Studio. • Приключения Тома Сойер...
We are also pleased to share with you unique photographs from the photo proof album for the film, which are stored in the archives of the Odesa Film Studio. Write, could you imagine your favorite film with a different cast and whose performance did you like the most?
