My amazing older brother bought me a tobacco Burst Tribute for my 50th birthday in May '21. My first Gibson having played since I was 15. Wonderful guitar. I love it. Sounds and plays great. I love the clean lines. Love the satin finish. I'm not a "bling" person so this is the perfect LP for me.

My brother got himself one (I have more than enough guitars already!) around 5 years ago when they had the zebra pickups. For someone who grew up in the 70s, it was a wonderful opportunity to fulfil his life's ambition of owning a Gibson, which we couldn't dream of as kids with UK import duties.

By far my favorite guitar I’ve ever had is a 2018 les Paul faded. It has dot inlays, no binding, maple neck, and a 490 set. I’ll never sell it. Ive probably had over 100 guitars now, including maybe more expensive ones from all kinds of brands. This one is a keeper for sure.

Was lucky to score a 2016 lp faded in 2017 on sale. The weight, satin finish, and neck shape were just beyond. Tried more expensive lp’s at a long and mcquade a year later and the necks were too thin, bodies too light or weirdly heavy for how thin the neck was, and the paint overly flashy for 3000$! I got mine for 750$ Canadian with tax. No comparison!

If the price of a Gibson Les Paul Standard or even a Studio is too expensive for your budget, go with the Tributes because outside of cosmetics and pick ups, you are still getting a similar Gibson experience. As much as love playing my Standard, when I owned a Tribute, I couldn’t put it down because of the ease of playability. At around $1k US, it’s a great guitar at a intermediate price. 😎🎸🎸🎸🎸

Played all of them on the wall, played the specials also, and they all played really nice. Then I made the mistake of picking up the Classic in Honeyburst and it was a clear step above and I ended up spending the extra as I couldn't put it down, 6 months on and I don't think I have put it down yet, its cream. So from my experience the tributes and specials are all really nice, but the next step up is better again.

I purchased one a few weeks ago. I love the idea of a maple neck. Plus it's quarter sawn. I will not have a to jump to save it if it's tipped over. Or die of a heart attack if a cat tips it over at night. I am pretty sure the neck will not break. I love it also because of the width at the nut. I am a bass player because I have those fingers. I love the roundness of Fender's guitar but the width isn't there, for playability it matters more to me. It sound just perfect. I had the chance to chose from a number of them, I chose the one with the tone I like. The colours are great. It turns out it was the honey burst, the two others are great looking too. The neck with the satin finish is perfect, not sticky and the frets were well finished. I had to work the action a bit, I love a high action to dig in my string. And it comes with a nice gauge strings.

What is ironic is that you complain about cork sniffer instruments and then write about installing cork sniffer pickups in a non-cork sniffer instrument. A production Les Paul Standard is not a cork sniffer instrument. In fact, production Les Pauls Standards have never been cheaper. When I first started to play guitar in 1976, a Les Paul Standard cost $650. Adjusted for inflation, $650 in 1976 is $3,118.66 in 2021. The difference between back then and now is that guitarists had one, maybe two electric guitars, not five or more. A production Les Paul made today is heads and shoulders above one made in 1976.

Same as apart from mine's a 2020. The stock PCB & the shrill 49T really let's the guitar down. I replaced all the electrics with an Emerson 50s wiring harness & prewired toggle switch, Luxe woman tone caps & a pair of SD '59's. Also replaced the Nashville bridge with a tonepros avr1 using Faber conversion posts & Faber bridge studs & tailpiece. Also swapped out the tuners for Grover's so essentially only the body, neck & plastics are Gibson and the result is an incredible sounding & playing guitar that sounds better to me than a Standard, which is well over 2 grand for God's sake. Gibson charge a premium for original LP design specs like long neck tenons, an abr1 that screws directly into the wood, and unpotted PAFs; for these now "luxury" appointments you're looking at forking out over 3 grand. The way they price the range makes them look grasping and complacent, relying on the lure of it's past golden age. Anyway, I was lucky that mine has a one piece body which has fantastic grain (more by accident than design) and perceived wisdom claims this may benefit tone. In short, the LP Tribute makes a great platform for modding & by spending an extra £300 and ditching most of the Gibson stock parts you can end up with something really special, distinctive and individual.

I picked up a tribute in tobacco burst ( my first choice was the honey burst but it sold before I got to GC ) and I just can’t stop playing it! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This is my very first Gibson Les Paul I’ve ever owned and it’s fantastic. Funny twist: these guitars are most likely Adam Jones production rejects.🤔 I’m glad I got one!

I had an entry level Gibson les paul studio in ebony with gold hw... I bought it brand new in 2008 and it came with a regular hard shell gibson logo case... It sounded and played great but I never could get used to the lack of body and neck binding.. This made me crave for a les paul standard which I did get later... If you are looking at these entry level les pauls.. I would advise you to hang on a bit longer until you have the money for a nice standard or custom... Just play an epiphone until you get there... You will not regret it and you will not have to go through that "not quite there" syndrome like I did... Believe me.. there is nothing more frustrating than having the tone but not the look... Maybe that's why they designed the studio.. for the studio and not the stage.

It certainly looks great and sounds great. Just tried it in a shop a few days ago, but I was disappointed with the fret ends: massive fret sprout on the ones I tried. I ended up buying an Epiphone Les Paul 60's and I love it.

@@haleyconant honestly I can’t say I’m an expert in Gibson / Epiphone guitars, I’m more of a superstrat player. But after trying a few Les Paul in a store, I felt this Epiphone was giving me the complete Les Paul experience, more than the affordable Gibson. Maybe a 3.000 dollar Gibson Les Paul would bring a noticeable difference but I don’t plan to put this amount in a Les Paul anyway.

I bought my 2020 Les Paul tribute with the iced tea finish 8 months ago and I love it. First real Les Paul I've ever owned. The sound of it inspires me to play things without even thinking what I'm doing. I wouldn't change a thing on it. Mine came with sharp fret ends on both sides that I will take care of one of these days.

I just got mine today. The bevels on the last few frets where the neck joins the body were a bit rough . They filed the bevel but didnt finish off with a finer file or sandpaper. I'm thinking they had some of the newer guys who don't get paid as much do the finishing work on the frets, or just gave whoever was doing it a time frame that didn't allow much attention to detail. Everyhting else about the guitar is flawless, though.

i have the same guitar(right handed verion though) and i love it. the satin neck plays really smooth. sounds great too. biggest plus is i am not as scared to take it out and damage it as with the more expensive models. the burst on the guitar you have there does look a lot moroe pronounced than it does on mine. mine is a lighter shade around the edges

For all muddy neck pickups on Les Pauls, adjust the pole pieces. Not the pickups, just the poles. You will clean up that mud nicely. No, you won't get all the way to a 59, lol...but you will be happy with the results. And you may have to lower your pickup if you raise the pole pieces high enough.

Just got mine today. My prior Gibson experience was with a Spirit, which was my first guitar. 30 plus years and dozens of guitars later and still haven't found one that plays like she did. I had to sell it a few years ago to help defray the costs from some storm damage that my insurance wouldn't cover. I'm not a pro or a great player, nor do I gig so couldn't justify the cost of a Standard or even a Classic. This is close the playability of that Spirit, and that's with the action being a bit higher than I prefer. Its a gorgeous guitar, and other than a few sharp fret ends on the bass side where the neck joins the body, its absolutely flawless. Only issues are that I hate the stock Gibson tuners, and the selector switch doesn't feel as sturdy as other Les Paul's I've had experience with. I wonder if they used a cheaper switch as a cost cutting measure, because I've seen the same complaint about it in other reviews.

I had a Tribute that I didn’t like as well as my 90’s Epiphones nor as much as my Gibson LP std that I got later. It just didn’t scratch that itch for me. The frets don’t feel anything like a Std and although I love the 490/498 pups in an SG; they were too bright for me in the Tribute

I’ve had an Epi since 93 that I’ve worn the frets off of. I needed another guitar to play while getting a refret done. I refuse to pay 800-1000 for a Chinese made guitar, so I bought a Gibson studio. It very very nice.

Do an A/B vs Epiphone and Harley Benton SCs. The bright vs muddy observation you made in the conclusion can be fixed with measuring the volume pots actual kohms and then finding one at the top end of the spec. If the Tributes have the same 'Gibson' pots as the rest of their line then those pots have been found to be as low as 300kohms and thus 'muddy', although some players like that 'smooth tone' because I think they run through a too-bright amp. But a simple pot swap can fix even the worst offenders. I've used series caps on too-muddy pickups to fix those too.

Great video Shane, the intro and the playing was great always. Personally i'm not a fan of this series or any Gibson Les Paul for that matter. For this price, i would recommend to go with PRS SE or LTD 1000. As someone who's had these three brands. LTD and PRS has far superior quality. PRS, LTD and Schecter as well have better built guitars for less than this. Change the pickups (and the hardware if it's an issue) it will cost you the same money and you will get a better guitar. PS: i hope you don't get my comment wrong Shane. just sharing my opinion and experience with these guitars. I love the channel and the content as always.

I like the satin finish but this still isn’t a particularly affordable guitar. You can get the regular Les Paul for not much extra and it will hold a better resale value. I reckon you would buy one because you like it. I bought an SG junior about 10 years ago for $1000 NZD, I was prepared to spend 3 times that but it was the guitar I liked the best. Brand new, US made. Super lightweight and simple. At the end of the day Gibson make some wonderful guitars but maybe you don’t need all the features if you just want something you can play the heck out of.

I've got the 2020 Tribute in the same honey burst finish! I absolutely love it and completely agree about the gig bag too (although 2020's only has a single shoulder strap, so glad they've made it two for 2021). The guitar sounds phenomenal and I think the satin finish on the back of the neck just allows you to move faster than the gloss finishes. I definitely get to a solo position quicker on my Les Paul than on my Ibanez Iceman which has a Wizard II neck.
