In this episode, we speak with Crystal Shadd, former pro-athlete and current Professor in Conestoga’s School of Interdisciplinary Studies. Crystal shares with us how her early days running around the track on campus as a kid while her father taught helped make her feel at home at Conestoga when she was first hired as faculty. Crystal brings with her years of experience in professional sport-both in the spotlight and behind the scenes as a coach to some of this country’s biggest stars. Crystal outlines some commonalities she’s noted when coaching and teaching young people.
Crystal’s lesson comes from a foundational Anatomy and Physiology course where she developed a creative and engaging way to share difficult-to-grasp-and-retain knowledge with students. This lesson has her arriving early to class to push the desks aside and tape up the floor and has her students taking on roles of different types of blood moving through the human circulatory system.
