MinisForum are really knocking it out the park with these designs. I think they've firmly realised there is a market for the smaller-than-console PC gaming / powerful PC for work. I currently use a MSI DP20Z as my daily runner for development work and a bit of light gaming. But this HX90G could be a serious upgrade for me. I haven't turned on my tower PC for almost 18 months now!

You would pay significantly less while getting double the storage if you were just to buy the barbone kit and add your own stuff. 32gb of DDR4 3200 so-dimm ram can be had for under $80, and even a PCIe gen 4 1tb NVMe can be easily found for around $100 these days. The bare kit is $800, plus just under $200 for the upgrades saves you close to$100. Just my opinion on the subject lol

@qtsssim in terms of reliability I'm honestly disappointed. I have HM90, and it has issues where it will randomly just completely freeze until you unplug the power. And on the official forums you can see that I'm not the only one with the issue. Minisforum so far is either giving responses that completely ignore what people are saying or tells you to ship it back at your own cost. And we know it's a hardware problem because it's happening no matter your OS or what you're doing.

This is the first mini pc that you've reviewed that is actually a decent deal vs just buying a laptop and vertical stand. Good cpu/gpu and extra nvme slot for egpu possibilities down the road. Only problem I see here is that size wise it's approaching mini-itx territory where you could have a fully upgradable mini pc including desktop (vs laptop) cpu and gpu that are changeable/upgradeable. Still, this is a decent deal if someone doesn't want to build their own and this is a wee bit smaller.
@bluetech2809
2 жыл бұрын
I thought the same (in terms of the size approaching mini ITX) but I guess the question is what you can actually buy for that price, as well as the annoyance of having to put it all together. Also I played around with the pricing on the minisforum and it seems that (where I am at least) it's cheaper to get the barebones model and buy your own RAM and SSD (save around $100 to kit it out equivalent to the top spec 64g 512ssd).
@LostRoaming
2 жыл бұрын
@@bluetech2809 Probably a good way to go, slapping the memory and ssd in yourself. Also lets you control the quality of those components. This mini is a pretty good deal for sure. I bought an aorus xe4 2022 with 12700h, 3070ti , 4k oled and 2 1tb gen 4 nvme drives (that both bench at an insane 7000MBs/5000MBs read/write) for $1299 on sale a couple weeks ago and I would guess deals like that and better are about to become plentiful with the holidays coming.

@DFX2KX
2 жыл бұрын
@@MUCKLEECH Oh it's *smaller*, true. But not more capable. You're sacrificing capability to get this small. My full-tower, with it's old 1700X, still runs circles around this thing because my system's got a full size GPU (Sapphire 5700xt) with a full size cooling solution (three fans, each almost as big as this thing's side panel) instead of a laptop chip. And I could spend like $300, buy a moderately newer Ryzen (3000 or 4000 series) used and a motherboard (or or go cheap and patch this one) and run circles around my current system. I don't care about how much room this takes up. I don't care about it's power consumption (the GPU is currently pulling 194 watts *by itself* crunching Fold@Home) nor it's ecological impact. If I spend $1000 on a new *gaming* PC, I'm buying a tower. It's more performance for the same money. I can put watercooling in it, and then overclock it well beyond it's rated 'boost' speed, most Ryzens will do so happily. These mini PCs have their place, collage dorms or RVs/boats or whatnot where space is at a premium. Buuuut I'm not trying to game on the ISS or something so having a full size computer isn't getting in the way, it just sits under the desk, while the (still much larger than this mini-pc) server sits on top.

Also wondering what you would recommend - this one or the NUCXI7 you reviewed last month? Looking on the minisforum website, the NUCXI7 is definitely a lot more expensive (the fully kitted out HX90G (64GB RAM insane lol) is basically the same price as the barebones NUCXI7), although comparing your two videos it looks like the NUCXI7 is a bit more powerful (or maybe a lot, I see you had Spiderman running at 1440p without DLSS at high framerates compared to the HX90G only hitting the same with FSR on..

I am not sure how much value this is for 1000 bucks! It would be helpful if you would show or integrate some comparisons when you show the fps or the benchmarks. For excample: can this Mini PC hold up to a Desktop machine that costs around 800 bucks? Maybe with a Ryzen 5600 and an RX 6600 so that it would be fair to say that 200 bucks are the premium for an out-of-the-box Mini PC? It's always a bit hard to estimate how much value a PC has if there is no comparison in any kind. But besides that it's fast! My old PC (Ryzen 2600, GTX 1050 Ti) plays Forza Horizon 5 at 1080p high. And to see that this Mini PC is doing 1440p high with higher frames is pretty impressive.

Don't know about US, but in Australia this is a good value for money, especially if compared to laptops (I mean, for people that need a "movable" pc platform, without the need for "working" whilst commuting AND can arrange a monitor at the location where they are headed too). Although, reading the comments, it seems there is a Thinkpad for about the same price. I would always go for a brand with more credit...

Can you tell me which Thinkpad should be available for the same price? I feel like it's impossible to get the same specs for the same price on a laptop since you would have to pay for battery and screen which both aren't the cheap parts in a laptop.

You should do a comparison between this, and the coming HX99G (6900HX, DDR5 4800, 680M iGPU + RX 6600) I want to see how good the 1% lows are with the newer DDR5.

Hey guys, I'm a console gamer wanting to jump to PC (mainly because I'm interested in modding my games, and it's only on PC). Would this be great for me ? I want to play Witcher 3 with various mods, Cyberpunk with various mods. etc. After doing a few comparions, this seems incredibly cheap for price to performance ratio ! I would hook this to a monitor most times, but also possibly to My 65 inch LG OLED for gaming sometimes.

'Tech Yes City' did a review/ benchmark of the MLLSE Radeon RX 6600M, a desktop graphics card using a mobile chip. The card performed about the same as a regular 6600 while using less power, and costing less than $200 USD.

I wonder how this compares to the minisforum NUCXI7... It seems to beat the NUCXI5 by a bit. I guess it'll be about 20% slower compared to the NUCXI7?

I'm on the fence myself also. I'm leaning towards NUCXI7 just because of Intel. But the form factor of the HX90G is much easier to work with than putting a tombstone (NUCXI7) on my desk...

i've got one of those here. it's completely broke. IF it is running, you see stuttering, artifacts, even black screens, reboots and so on. And it has to cool down in order to get it to stand up again. Tried resetting it even Windows restores/resets. Interestingly also the the GPU fan stops running after start, but that could be temperature related. They probably have to supply a BIOS flash if you would ask me, but i don't know what i can do any further. I teard it down, checked all cables, that was fine. Any suggestions appreciated

I’m about to pre order this, but I still have one question: is it too loud while doing “normal” stuff? (Browsing the web, etc). It’s go 2 fans, so I’m a little bit worried. While gaming it’s ok if it turns into a turbine 😁

I am so tempted to buying one of these over building something. I have a larger desk and can fit a normal PC case on it, however, I have been on a minimalist kick lately. Problem is, for the same price, you can build something with more power. I suppose that is the trade off.
