David Compton : nah; opinions, I prefer Warren’s style on the strings, which is way more classic Allman Bros. From a 40 yr. guitarists point of reference to the loose non precise flying improvised style of Derek that is more that of a slide guitar master... they both are very different, but get the sound out there in their own ways, and we , I guess, are entitled to our opinions, I’ve seen Warren play Pink Floyd better than Gilmore... he can play anything, consumate master... Duane is the best Slide player alive, but not the best at all the other variations of guitar, he’ll be the first to tell you !

I'm so spoiled - I have seen them 9x or 10x times, and with BB King and Buddy Guy, Susan T several times, Greg Allman - I'm with this highly fortunate crossover gerneration - I hear these drum lines and slide riffs in my sleep every night - Derek, Warren, and all the 'conversational' back and forth with these gentlemen non-stop. Lucky, lucky, me.

Tonight, tears of fear, potential loss and yes joy roll down my face as i watch & listen to this. My uncle, is in the ICU in critical codition from Covid19. He is my beloved friend, music mentor and family. Growing up i airways what to him about music. When i'd brag that i'd seen the ABB he would remind me he saw them 5 times w Duane. Two of the three times ive had heart surgery in Seattle id play this song going into surgery. While i know he cant hear this right now I'm playing this as loud as i can in defiance, in sadness, in anger, most mostly in love. I love you dearly, Neal.

All things change, I remember Dicky Betts AND Duane, nothing is as good as the original but, this iteration is as good as any other. The fact they're keeping alive a style of music, the open jam ala Grateful Dead, is a testament to the free flowing life we all enjoyed then. You want to hate on something, hate on the prepackaged, processed and sampled crap that's passing for music today. It takes little to no real talent to steal riffs, toss them together and call it music. Just one old man's opinion.

I think it's fairly legitimate to say that Derek Trucks can never BE Duane Allman as well as Duane Allman could, Eric Gales BE Hendrix and all that. There was a highwater mark for originality set by the originals that can never be met, because somebody else will always be playing SOMEBODY ELSE'S songs. Personally, I think it's a compliment on the part of younger musicians to treat the Allman Brothers, Hendrix, and Grateful Dead songs as "new standards" in the same way you'd treat "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" or "Born Under a Bad Sign" as standards - you don't HAVE to wait for people to die, do you? Some great musicians just DON'T write very well, and I'd rather hear them play the best songs they can find than try to force themselves to rewrite the same things over and over. Derek & Warren were members of the BEST ABB cover band I'd ever heard. But "Jessica" misses Chuck....

Been a fan of them since my late teens. Saw Derek Trucks when he was about 12 or 14 @ Under the Street in Durham NC when it was still open in approx 1991. Got his pick and told him I’d join him of stage someday...because he was already that frigging good and I foresaw myself playing blues rock on large stages someday. My musical goals have changed over the years, but I’m grateful that I’ve be privy to watching the ABB’s legacy grow and expand. These guys are a treasure.

Thundergod129 I've never heard Derek and Warren claim they won't play together again. ? Dickey will be playing with Derek and Susan very soon in their show. And everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's a shame you're not more aware of Derek's talent. I'm a huge Duane fan and I'm also a huge Derek fan. I definitely know that you could never touch either one of those fine soul's talents, so opinions can be overrated as well.
@thundergod1298

c. k. sandi What I heard was that they wouldn't play together as The Allman Bros. In fact they recently did their last show. But we all know that money has coaxed many out of retirement. As far as Derek, well it really IS a matter of opinion. He was blessed to be born into such an iconic band but there will never be anything as awesome as Dickey and Skydog playing those double leads. And opinions can't be over or underrated but again that also is a matter of opinion I guess....

I have the pleasure of making music with really good musicians. I consider myself blessed. We were raised on this music. I'm playing southern rock, jam, classic, R&B and blues with a group of guys I've known for 30+ years. All fantastic players who play from the heart. We all have day jobs to pay the bills but on weekends the 6 of us go out and play songs like this from The Allman's and so much more. This music will continue because real music lovers will keep it alive. All the sampled, processed, auto-tuned horse shit we hear today is so incredibly fake. There are always exceptions of course but the majority is dreck and it's here and gone in the blink of an eye. Songs like Jessica are timeless for a reason. We've lost so many artists from this beautiful era of music. Just from The Brothers alone -> Gregg, Duane, Berry, Butch, Lamar, Dan, David and "Woody". RIP

This is such an Allmanific version of Jessica. Anyone who disagrees has no instinct for true talent . Guaranteed Dickey has seen this & loves it

I'm going to miss this band first time I saw them was 1975, Jessica was the first song I ever heard from them we named our daughter after this song. Since 1975 I have seen them 50 + times . 3 times in one week . Never the same show . Most bands play songs note for note. Not the Allman Brothers that's what made them special.

The Dead too! I saw the ABB 3 times back in the day, but not since ‘73. I still love them! These guys sound great, Duane would be pleased!

Saw them live twice in early '70s and I agree w/ you; they would go off and do their improvisations and that was truly impressing and amazing. They really touched your soul.

All the dissing of Derek and Warren is so tiresome. Name one other band where they've done such an amazing job of bringing in the best players they could find when there was a hole. (Wilco with Nels Cline and WSP with Jimmy Herring are great adds). Oteil, Lamar, Jack, Warren, Derek etc are fantastic musicians and they've made for some of the best moments of my life. Great vid.

+Bufus Blane I doubt that they are trying hard at all to copy Duane's and Dickie's leads. I once read an interview with Derek where he talked about the need to show respect for the original, but any good guitarist (including Duane and Dickie) improvises. That's why most of us like live and original music. KZitem proves all the time that plenty of guitarists can mimic tone and technique. In fact, live improvisation (including Mountain Jam) is what made At Fillmore East and the Allman Brothers a hit. I'm surprised you have so little tolerance for it, but like to imagine that Duane would have loved what these guys brought to the band (quote from his daughter Galadrielle: "That was his vision for the Allman Brothers ... that he would make a band with equally talented musicians as strong as he was that could all spread out together.") Now that they're gone, and ABB has played it's final show, I guess you can rest easy.

I agree with it being tiresome, these guys are excellent. But I can name one band where they've done such an amazing job to fill the hole: Metallica.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I do not like Metallica because they are a heavy metal band. I have been listening and exploring the music of The Allman Brothers Band for about 6 months now. And, in my opinion, The Allman Brothers is a true legendary band.

Thank you! I really needed a good dose of this. I planned on seeing Dickie Betts tomorrow night, had 4th row center seats to see him play with his son Duane, who not only plays well but looks just like his dad. Sadly, they had to postpone the concert. Dickie had a mild stroke. (Aug 2018) All I can say is I hope he is well enough soon to continue with his tour. I'm so grateful I had a chance to see them back in the day and so happy they shared their talents with their kids, who are talented in their own right. Will they be exactly like their dads? No. But perhaps they can find their own grove and mark in music history.

They ain't Dickey and Dwayne, but they ain't bad. In my opinion, Jessica is the best sounding guitar, plus other instruments, piece I have heard in my 63 years and these boys did a pretty good job. I liked it, ok.

@ ChrisDutch ... correction, buddy, the song "Jessica" was about Dickey Betts' young daughter playing outside the cabin where they all hung out ... inspired by her lighthearted demeanor and cute smiling face, Dickey composed the song on the front porch !

Robert Walters Les Dudek, though, composed the middle part where it goes down a G chord. Dickey later apologized to him for not giving him a writing credit that he deserved.

I get a real kick out of the critics comments, kind of reminds me of the folks who disagree over who was the better basketball player, Labron, Michael, Magic, or Oscar. This is to a part the next generation carrying on the great music of the original creators. They are performing with the mastery of their own art form and if you can't appreciate it for what it is you should spend your time watching videos of the originals. Occi

Bill: you're saying it ! I wanted to call my first daughter Jessica, but the name was not included in the "socialistic name-list" (I was than living in communist East-Germany). This piece electrified me 46 yrs ago and it does it still today . Especially looking at the "youngsters" ( Derek + Warren) which keep not only this music, even the spirit of it alive ! Thx guys

great version of one of my favorite songs. I loved the original band, how Duane and Dickie could jam and jam and then come together out of the blue with those sweet harmony lines. This is one of my happiest songs, just makes me smile, even without lyrics, reminds me of falling in love with a beautiful young woman and sweet that is.

OH the Les Paul...my favorite guitar! Being a girl from generations of musicians, makes me appreciate the makers and designers of all these instruments....les Paul, what a guy....my mother played a style like Chet Atkins...she taught me how to do it all. I was singing on a gospel radio show at the age of 5...I remember my little sister standing on a box and looking through the glass at the DJ. This was in the late 50s! Now, no musicians exist. I am all dressed up in a karaoke machine with no where to go. Having these videos on KZitem means everything to me. Thank you KZitem! 💥💥💥
