That is a really interesting paint because if you were to show it to me I would say it's dried out acrylic because when my acrylic paints dry that's exactly what they look like but they don't come back with water fascinating pallet 🎨

That's so marvelous! I guess whatever they use in place of Gum Arabic produces a taffy-like texture. I'll bet that's why they need no pre-wetting. Thank you, Diane, for using this line of paint in so many of your videos. I've had a box of gansai sitting in my arts drawer for a year and never really used it. Thanks to your tutorial videos I'm using it everyday and loving it. It may now be my favorite paint. I've been struggling with watercolor for an embarrassingly long time without good results but the gansai seems easier to use. I hope other frustrated beginners will discover this wonderful paint through your lovely tutorials.

Yes, it’s a bit mysterious but I’m eagerly embracing the difference between Gansai Tambi and regular watercolor. I know some purists don’t like it but it is definitely easier to get good results with. And why should we want to struggle with the old-fashioned paint if we can have this instead??? Lots have people have told me they have bought a set and loved them, so I think the word is getting out there. Keep your fingers crossed that when they make the vegan switch it is successful. They won’t want to change anything about the way they work so I expect they’ll get it right. Happy painting and thanks for your support xxx

I am so happy that you shared with us this. I was beginning to wonder if there was a problem with my 48s. I haven’t had one yet but thought that it was happening due to me always having them on my Work Table. I was worried that I might have miss handled them. I have Small Grandchildren. My Art room is their Beauty Parlor, Spa Day Room, where GM hides things room too. They are pretty good a respecting my Work table and must be Invited to sit at it. They have been known to swipe my Spray Bottle on occasion though.

That was painful watching you pull it out lol. But yes, i think the gansai has more binder or something because it also spreads a little less on the paper

Hey Diane So should I get them or not for my water colour paintings?I have just started doing watercolour paintings like maybe a year ago and I feel ready to upgrade to something more professional so would you recommend them to me ? Or should I get the Winsor and newton ones ?

That depends really on what you want to paint. For quick sketches, colourful illustrations, painting cards, bookmarks, simple abstract doodles and the like, the Kuretake can’t be beaten. Vibrant colors, good mixing capacity, cheap and easy to use. If you want to paint botanical flowers, detailed layered and transparent landscapes and still lifes, to do fine art in any sense using the traditional transparent qualities, then I’d recommend one of the professional traditional manufacturers. Depending on your country, you could choose Schmincke, Sennelier, Daniel Smith, M Graham, Winsor and Newton, Art Spectrum, Old Holland, Van Gogh, Holbein… all are good. Hope this helps x

These colors are very easy to use compared to other beginner pan watercolors because they are semi moist and activate very easily.
