Sorry I didn't have a chance to comment on this. Great research, and I 100% think the big model is super cool I wish they had mass produced them so they could be found on reverb. I'm looking forward to your videos on the drone synth and the theramin (sorry about the spelling) keep up the great content

Thanks for checking it out. This video took a surprising amount of research. I can't believe nobody has made it yet. I'm excited for the Theremin.

Great video! I totally didn't know about the bigger, more featured stylophones. Those look super neat, but also hella expensive and rare. My stylophone Beat is probable the closest I'll ever get to one. But at $40, the Beat is one of the best values on the drum machine market today. Not perfect, but great for on the go, and the built in speaker gives it some lo-fi tones.

Yeah. The ubiquitous pocket organ is certainly a great device but they've had a lot of other cool ideas as well. Thanks for watching.

Wow, that's quite a journey through time. I remember sitting down with the grandfather that we saw least often. He was a musical man and had one of these (this would have been early 70s, the Rolf Harris era) and I muddled through a hymn tune that he'd written out on a piece of paper. Happy memories, and an iconic instrument.

I'm a huge fan of the Sytlophone so that is great to hear. I'm sure it had a very different impact on kids in the UK as not that many of them made it to the US. Thanks for watching. I hope it was informative.

@@musicalmiscellany my memory is that they were pretty ubiquitous here. If you didn't own one, you knew someone who did. Putting a musical instrument into the hands of kids has got to be an extremely worthy thing to do.

@@midi_in I totally agree. The Stylophone perfectly bridged the gap between children's toy and legitimate synthesizer. It was absolutely brilliant.

Now granted I don't know much about stuff like this but, it would seem to me that a tiny Casio Keyboard from the toy department at Walmart has a better interface for playing. Or am I missing something?

They Stylophone fills an interesting niche. It's effectively a keyboard instrument, but it can fit in your pocket. So while a traditional black and white keyboard is more intuitive, it's a lot less portable (even the small ones). That's more or less the theory behind it. However, playing a synthesizer with a stylus is a lot different feel from playing it with your fingers. For better or worse, it caught on. Stylophones are not for everyone but a lot of folks really love them. Thanks for checking it out.

For anyone interested, scam artist Ben Fisher was involved with Stylophone for a brief moment in the modern era, but I have confirmed he is no longer involved.
