@@kaiielle There was a comic in the 90s called "Marvels" which was completely painted graphics by Alex Ross and told iconic stories from the Marvel Universe from the POV of a regular human on the ground (a photojournalist) and the way they put it, people watching weren't sure what happened either, but some said they heard a snap and others not. The way it happened in the comics was more like what happened in the first Tobey McGuire movie with him having to choose to save Gwen or the cable car, but it didn't turn out how it was in that movie where he saved both. He caught them both but there was too much velocity already on Gwen when he caught her and the theory was she snapped her neck. But from the peoples' POV and how it was described, it was pretty horrific and everyone stopped breathing for a moment. Wish I could remember exactly how it was described, but it affected me, imagining what it must've been like to see. The painted graphics that look more like real people (because Alex Ross used real models for his work, including his dad for the main character) made it hit that much more.

*The Night Gwen Stacy Died* (1973) also known as *The Green Goblin's Last Stand* heavily inspired the events surrounding the death of Gwen Stacy yet also inspired the ending of Spider-Man 1 as well. In the comics Norman recovers from his amnesia and remembers everything from the Green Goblin and the fact that Peter is Spider-Man. The Green Goblin then abducts Gwen Stacy, luring Spider-Man to the top of the Brooklyn Bridge. Goblin and Spider-Man clash, and the Goblin hurls Gwen off the bridge, Spider-Man manages to web Gwen like you see in this film but like the movie she dies from the whiplash of the sudden stop. Peter then causes down Norman where they both fight and in the end Norman is impaled on his own glider. All of this happened in Spider-Man 1 as well only instead of Gwen it was MJ who of course survived, differant bridge though. This comic is regarded as one of the most pivotal Spider-Man story outside of Peters origin story and one of the most important comics of all time as this was one of the first times an important comic book character was killed off. Alot of people even regard this comic as ending the Silver Age of Comic Books and jumpstarted the Bronze Age. The Silver Age of comics were heavily regulated by the Comics Code Authority who were founded in 1954 as a reaction to the outrage of violent comic books at the time. This is why comics from the 1950s were much more campy and colourful, compare Batman of the 1940s to the 1950s and 1960s for example. By the mid 1970s comics moved away from these regulations and by the 1980s we ventured into more mature and dark storytelling across both DC and Marvel. The death of Gwen Stacy can be seen as the beginning of this change.

Gwen was very much Peter's first real relationship and then still during his college years Aunt May decided to invite MJ over for Peter to meet and a whole new romance was born after Gwen's death. MJ and Peter then became an iconic couple and for more mainstream viewers Gwen kind of flew under the radar.
@samuellincoln4760
9 ай бұрын
That's not quite right. MJ's official debut was in 1966, the same year as Gwen, but her character had been teased going back to 1964. It was this recurring gag where Aunt May kept trying to set Pete up with the niece of her friend Anne who we never see and Pete has zero interest in meeting. MJ goes on to be a member of Pete and Gwen's friend circle, and then yes, after Gwen's death Pete and MJ eventually start dating.
@LittleGalaxyBoy

@@samuellincoln4760 Your 100% correct. Before this like you mentioned MJ was always brought up by Aunt May but Peter had zero interest until that iconic first meeting. Also recall MJ showing up before this but her face was covered by an object with Betty and Liz speaking about how stunning MJ looked. I'm pretty sure MJ was seen in the background one time as well but we never saw her face. From my understanding MJ and Peter had there first kiss in The Amazing Spider-Man #143 (January 14, 1975) so they started dating after the death of Gwen but knew each other before then.

I thought the movie was great. In the comics Gwen was Peter's first love and Norman Osborne's Green Goblin dropped her from a bridge. The whiplash from his web snapped her neck. Ultimately this is what lead to Spider-Man being so strict about letting anyone know his true identity. Him and M.J.s relationship was well after Gwen's death. If you look up that famous comic book cover of him holding Gwen's body, you will notice she's wearing the same outfit with the green jacket that she wore in this movie. Knowing what was coming it killed me in theaters to see that green jacket. I was like "oh no!"

I love this movie so much! I remember 11 year old me leaving the theater so emotionally heartbroken and yet so excited for TASM 3. It… never came, but I’ve held Andrew’s Peter/Spidey as my #1 since that day. I’ve mentioned this before but his suit in this movie is just so good. It makes me smile every time I see it. Andrew is just such a phenomenal actor and his chemistry with Emma was just so perfect. Gwen’s death is still a hard pill to swallow though. Funnily enough, I keep hearing that the biggest flaw people have with Andrew’s Peter, is that he’s too cool. Which I can see, but he’s still pretty socially awkward when the mask is off. He stumbles with his words a lot. Plus he’s still super smart, and I love how him and Gwen can talk science.

Both in the comics and this movie series, the death of Gwen Stacy has an ongoing echo throughout the Marvel Universe. Even in the Civil War comic event, Cap and Iron Man ( before things got too heated between them) talked about Gwen Stacy's death and whether or not it could have been prevented if Peter had training. Her death was slightly different in the comics( snapped neck from sudden stop from his webs) but still affects him. In fact, Peter visits her grave every year with MJ's full support.

53:47 Wow, hot damn, I never even thought about that. But now that you say it? Yeah. Hard agree. I love it too. Makes it not only feel like Peter and Spider-Man are two different people but also that Pete maybe sees Spidey as an outlet for joy. A way for him to have fun in his life. They're still the same person of course, but the awkwardness, stuttering, and mumbling isn't there with Spidey. Where Pete sometimes struggles to get a word out with Gwen, Spidey talks pretty casually with her. It's an almost polar opposite contrast that differentiates them very nicely. Of course you see glimpses of Spidey in Peter, but as you said, it's when he dons the suit that he comes out entirely. He's in his element. He knows what he's doing. He does it good and knows that too. Amazing catch. I appreciate this movie and Andrew even more now.

I see you got the entire backstory on Gwen Stacey and her death in the comics and this movie, since I knew you wouldn't have known the story before now it's easy for me at least to understand your reaction to it and your expectation. When you (meaning general) know something it's easy to look at someone else seeing it and expect them to have the same reaction , Spiderman fans back then weren't expecting it, and general Spiderman movie watchers with no context weren't expecting it. But you do a good job of helping your audience (us) understand. I watched just to get to your reactions for those scenes. I felt for Max at the beginning, and it hurt seeing the way people treated him. I loved how Spiderman reached out to him at the beginning and seeing what that meant to Max. Andrew and Emma Chefs kiss chem. I know Electro was a Spiderman Villain already in the 60s. Movies with KL, yeah definitely makes it easier, I still have you in the search as Kaielle but I know it's Kaiielle so that makes it easier, also being subscribed makes it easier lol. 10 Spiderwebs out of 10. The thumbnail that I wasn't sure what it meant. Like she either ripped into it or cried. Ha. This movie struggled at the box office. People took issue with Jamie Foxx from his portrayal as the nerd to the changing of Electro's suit. Or, people just thought the story was eh. So seeing reactors and a new wave of fans get it years later is bitter sweet. Andrew and Emma's chemistry is perfectio. And, this is comic's accurate. Like Gwen really died from a fight with the Golbin. One of the best graphic books is Peter well into a relationship with MJ recounting into a recorder how he still misses her.

Andrew talked about shooting Gwen's death and said it was the worst day for him. Like you said, he did think about it being Emma. He talked about how he saw her on the ground, not moving and he could just imagine her being really dead. So his reaction is heartbreaking. @@kaiielleyep Shailene Woodley was casted as MJ and was supposed to be introduced in this movie. There were pictures of Shailene and Andrew filming together as well as a scene with Gwen. There were also many deleted scenes that did not end up in the Final Cut because it would have made the movie even longer. But I also felt some of those scenes would have been more effective in giving backstory of Max as well as shown more of Peter x Harry friendship. There was also an emotional scene of Peter and Richard.. yes..Richard survived the crash and came out of hiding to comfort Peter while he was grieving Gwen’s death at the cemetery. It was a great father x son moment tbh. There was photos of the aftermath of Gwen’s death and it’s quite dark where Peter snaps and beats the crap out of Harry. He was totally not holding back and was in a rage and Harry provoked him to kill him. Obviously, Peter came back to his senses and did not go through with it. But it coincided with what you said..Peter could have gone on a very dark path after all he’s been through. Literally a year a part from each other..he lost his Uncle Ben, Gwen’s dad died protecting him and his secret, and then his first love/serious relationship dies in his arms. Peter not wanting to do anything Spider-Man for 5 months is warranted, but I can imagine him battling his emotions and even depression despite going back to being the neighborhood friendly crime fighting Spider-Man. 😢 As for cutting out MJ in this movie, it’s understandable because there was so many story lines going on and Peter x Gwen romance was going full blast in the end until she died. It wouldn’t make sense to bring in MJ during their whole on and off/friends or more back and forth moments. What would be ideal for me is maybe showing a quick intro of Peter meeting MJ at a cafe where she works. A good part would be rhino causing a scene and crowds from a cafe is running away and Peter as Spider-Man saves a young woman who works at the cafe almost gets shot by Rhino’s bullets and it’s MJ aka Shailene Woodley. They have a little moment and he goes off to fight Rhino and that’s it. But again it might feel like it’s too soon after losing Gwen to show MJ. You know? I remember watching this when it came out and I was like you.. I was in denial too! I loved and still love Peter and Gwen so much. So I probably would have been pissed if MJ showed up lol.

I guess I’m more invested in the comics. The Gwen death scene is hard for me to watch. I can understand u not being invested in her character. I thought Electro was to cartoonish to be believe able. I didn’t shed a tear for his character.

I really do love the Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit so much more than Andrew's first Spider-Man outfit. It's very Ultimate Spider-Man with those massive lenses, Ultimate Universe comics inspired these films alot down to Electro being blue instead of a guy in a green and yellow suit with yellow electric powers. The big lenses also reminds me of Todd McFarlane's Spider-Man run in the 1990s and it's just a really fun visually design choice to make Andrew stand out from the other Spider-People. Gwen's death was expected for fans of the comics when Goblin was introduced but it was still very emotional. In the Ultimate Universe Gwen thankfully doesn't have the same fault along with Sam Rami's Spider-Man 3 as well so I guess there's at least some Gwen's out there still alive.

I really wish they took the risk and ended the film on Gwen's death. I think the impact would have been infinitely deeper similar to infinity wars ending. I totally enjoy these movies more than the Tobey ones. Not as much as the MCU ones though. Overall they are all fantastic too me and Spider-Man has always and will always be my favourite Marvel character, maybe my favourite pop culture character of all time. I would 100% watch a reaction to Morbius. It is definitely a fun superhero movie, it just does not really offer anything new to the genre.

I'm a huge fan of Green Goblin and The Hobgoblin and when I seen what they decided to do with Harry Osbourne's version of Green Goblin (which is in the comics) I knew the movie was not gonna be my thing. Is it so hard for Marvel to just put Green Goblin in a Latex mask? lol Cause that's what the original incarnation was in all along. It's like they were embarrassed to do a mask for the movies he was in so in the Tobey version he wears a stupid looking helmet, then the Andrew version as you said Bad Hair and green Pot marks. But at least his face wasn't 100% CGI that would have been so much worse like that STUPID Rhino suit.

Writing this before watching the video, but I will add more in a reply after. I'm not a huge fan of the first Amazing Spider-Man. The rewrite of how Peter is at school is odd, since Peter's supposed to be an uncool nerd and they made him into a hip skateboarder -- he's not popular, but it still feels kind of wrong. That movie is also the most similar to the Raimi movies, with The Lizard being kind of like Green Goblin, and the ending is awkward, IMO, because even if Captain Stacy is wrong to make Peter promise to stay away from Gwen (that should be up to her), it's strange to be rooting for him to break his promise to a dying man. (It would probably be better if Gwen were the one who told Peter that promises were meant to be broken, which would be more in keeping with her character and also let him off the hook, not to mention it would make his wrestling with that in this one more organic.) That said, I think this one is pretty good, and while I'm ultimately happy with the way things turned out, I definitely think that this second movie represents a clear adjustment to bring Garfield's Spider-Man into its own territory. Garfield and Stone's acting and chemistry is really good throughout and even if Electro is over-the-top, I like Foxx in the role. FTR, the death of Gwen Stacy in this one is a famous story from the comic books, one that Raimi seems to have been referencing in the original Spider-Man when Green Goblin drops MJ off the bridge (which is where it happens in the comics). It's one of the most well-remembered stories in Spider-Man lore because it is so dark and Peter actually loses someone. Webb had actually cast Shailene Woodley as MJ and had a scene where she is introduced at the end, but it was deleted because the filmmakers decided that they should not introduce a new love interest so close to the death of the previous one. Also, all of the material with Peter's parents in this one at the beginning of the movie was shot for The Amazing Spider-Man and deleted from that movie, then reinstated here. Another key deleted scene was an alternate ending where Peter is reunited with his father, still alive, in the cemetery at the end. Since this movie turned out to be the last of the Garfield Spider-Man movies, they never got to pay off the things they were setting up with Peter's dad.

Re: the Spider-Man actors - I think my main observation about Tom Holland is that the way in Peter is defined as a nerd have changed to update the character for modern times, so I don't think they're even trying to make Peter look "nerdy" or anything. He's a braniac who is in to academic achievement and is extremely, awkwardly enthusiastic about the things he's passionate about. As for my own favorite Spider-Man, you haven't gotten to him yet, but you will. I know that following the order you've followed so far has worked for you perfectly and it is very unlikely that you would deviate now, but I will say for the record, as far as I can remember (and I'm pretty confident because the Spider-Man movies are, of course, Sony productions and not Marvel productions), Shang-Chi, Eternals, "Hawkeye" and Spider-Man: No Way Home all essentially take place around the same period of time within the MCU (a section of chronology that may be slightly more vague than the MCU up until that point because Marvel had to move things around due to the pandemic, a decision that came after most of these projects were in post-production), and so if you wanted to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home right after watching Venom: Let There Be Carnage, you would not have anything spoiled. Others can confirm, although like I said, I doubt you're going to skip ahead now. Main reason I mention it is because it does feel like watching NWH would be a nice payoff immediately after ASM/ASM2/Venom/SV1/Venom 2, and that doing two other movies and a show after (one of which is widely unpopular) would maybe be a little frustrating. Perhaps a better suggestion would be to mix in Shang-Chi before Venom, and Eternals before Venom 2, and then move "Hawkeye" to after NWH. In any case, I love the first Venom movie and enjoyed the second. I won't use any specific adjectives here, but prepare for them to perhaps be different than you might expect.

I wouldn't say Peter is uncool. He's always been a science nerd, but he has always had friends and interest from females. I think Tobey is a better Peter, but Andrew is a better Spiderman.

read the original comics.... peter was never a nerd who wore glasses 24/7 who had no friends like Tobey's version he was a smart kid who had friends and was a loner but not popular. Andrews Spiderman is BY FAR the most comic accurate when it comes to the suit, the web shooters and the overall performance of how Spiderman acts. Spiderman was always sarcastic and funny and would crack jokes during his fights. Andrews Spiderman captures all of that.

Thank you for your reaction. I feel conflicted about this film, while I believe it's very flawed... I think the Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker)/Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) romance is far and above the best and most mature of all the Spider-man films. I was depressed for about 3 weeks after seeing this :)... which was about the same time length when I first read Amazing Spiderman #121 comic as a young teenager.

The only thing I didn't like about this movie was how they portrayed Max BEFORE he becomes Electro. It was just too much of a caricature. Kind of like Jim Carrey's Edward Nigma in Batman Forever. It just wasn't believable. The rest was all good. Too bad they didn't finish the story with a third film.

I have the issue where Gwen Stacy died and I was pretty sure the filmakers were going to pull from that source and it was difficult because Emma Stone is so likable in these films. I really like the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man because he's so good with kids. I loved it in the first one where he told the scared kid to put on his mask because it would make him stronger and the kid in this one who made the wind turbine was awesome.

Ultimately this film is a mess as Sony (Who importantly own the rights to Spider-Man in movies & probably will NEVER EVER let them go 💰 🤑 💸) wanted to immediately set up more films in this universe with that final scene. Killing Gwen is the way it goes but it felt to me it was far too rushed & saw it coming a mile off but heck-neck that was * Crack * as brutal as superhero films can go

Notoriously bad movies: Plan 9 From Outer Space, Troll 2, .... Morbius??? Thoughts to consider. Especially if you react the way we all did watching them.

the best spiderman movies are the toby ones. I didn't like the Garfield Spider mans at all. 1.) web shooters are technical, and have nothing to do with the spider bite. didn't like that in the mcu spider man too. spider man. not batman with his gadgets or iron man. spiderman should be a mutant. 2.) too much cgi. whole movie felt like a cut-scene from a game, too much and not very good cgi for all the combat scenes. Even the mcu one was way better (also too much cgi, but at least not that noticeable)
