Got mine for £300 used in mint condition. It’s a wonderful machine and really really inspiring because it sounds so good and really invites you to play and see what you can do. The fx are welcome and suit the sound. I love it, it’s like a premium volca that sounds better than most monos regardless of price. I have a vermona mono lancet 15 and I think these two are the best monos currently available in terms of tone and filter and value for money. The sequencer sync issue is not even remotely a problem for me. Even if this thing didn’t have a sequencer at all, like a lot of synths do, it’s easily better than almost everything else out there.

@@rorz999 what exactly is the issue with its midi? I was considering buying one for using it live as a slave but totally intending to use its internal sequencer. Would that work properly?
@moshell5249

@@happyjessus if you slave it and change the sequence/patch live it starts losing sync and you have to manually restart the sequencer. Also if you use to to send sequence midi out it can overwhelm the receiving device with midi notes on cause it to go crazy. A workaround would be to use the trigger in and drive it via gate Vs Midi. However that means you can't transpose the sequence from the ribbon keyboard anymore not modify the number of steps/time signature in real time. A shame really as the synth is great and ironic since Dave Smith RIP was the father of Midi. Still a great synth for the price

I think I just fixed the sequencer midi problem for myself. omg changing sequences and time signatures on the as1 sequencer with zero sync lost- It’s as amazing as you could imagine. First I was disappointed that even getting the erm multiclock didn’t fix it _Yes it now kept sync as long as you start it on time and never change patches (or anything!) i was at least able to have it on its own channel so I could take a measure to reset just the as1 without stopping everything else but I still loose that as1 measure. Then I explored the as1 menu and saw the ‘Trigger In’ (nothing plugged in that jack) was set to ‘PEDAL’ (idk if thats default) but when I switched to ‘GATE’ - that was it- sync with my 303, octatrack and everything else no matter what I do on the as1 -With a controller knob set to arp time signature I can go crazy and it stays super locked to the amazing erm clock. (So it takes buying that$$)

If you use the sequencer of the AS-1 to control another synth, there are always Midi errros from time to time ) I also recorded a sequence in ableton from the AS-1 ,that works perfect , but I don't find how to play this sequence in ableton to control the AS-1 without starting the sequence in the AS-1 ) Greetz

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the AS-1 just seems to have an unsatisfying identity crisis, at least from where I'm sitting. It simply fails to deliver the acid that most people who seek out a TB-303 (or SH-101) want that hardware to deliver. A lot of 303 clones came out around the same time, and apparently people decided this one doesn't make a good 303 clone compared to the competition, which there's no shortage of. It really doesn't sound like one at all. On the other side, it's also really expensive for a single oscillator monosynth, especially in [current year]. I'm sure it has potential, but honestly nothing about this demo wowwed me any more than the other demos I've watched about it over the years. And I have to admit, this thing is just UGLY too. So in the end, we're left with an overpriced monosynth that doesn't actually sound like the synth people expect it to sound like due to its formfactor. Not only do I not agree that it's an "amazing" synth, but it seems quite obvious why nobody is talking about it: there's better sounding shit that costs less money.

This is not a 303 clone lol. Never intented to be. Its a 2-osc Sequential synth basically. Like a Pro One, very similar sound too. You can do "acid" with any synth, this does a lot more than a 303 clone though.

You're totally missing the point, and hilariously. It's not a drum machine ! It's not meant to be "acid" - no one expects it to sound like a TB-303 except you !! O, and it's a dual oscillator monosynth, watch the review and get your other facts right ;-) Thanks for giving us all a laugh though ! x
