It also helps to understand that the IJA was primarily equipped for combat in Northern China and the Far East of the USSR. A battle of attrition on a festering, life challenging, South Pacific jungle island like Guadalcanal with their unsuitable kit was beyond rational thought so early in the planned for war.

I have been terribly misdirected by utoobs policies and series like this that make you click five sites just to get back where you were

I had never known about this action by the surface fleet in such incredible detail. It's the naval equivalent of a gunfight in a phone booth! This was indeed, the greatest generation.

The US Navy had a very steep learning curve at the outset of the war and particularly Guadalcanal, but learn they did, and that right quickly.

It must be television companies that put this series out, addicted to commercials.

Sometimes you wonder how America ever won the battle for Guadalcanal. Incompetence at the highest level, yet somehow the shear number of supplies and equipment overcame the mistakes of officers promoted more for years in the service than ability to fight a war.

Logistics is the backbone of any army. Without this vital component in place your opponent will lose in the end.

They won the same way that the British army won for 3 centuries. The grunts muddled through.

You know that the Japanese also made mistakes, but nothing at this stage of the war could compare to Callahan's idiocy!
