The American marten is a native mammal that hasn’t set foot in Pennsylvania for more than 100 years. Once common throughout the state, the marten had disappeared from Penn’s Woods by the start of the 19th century, a casualty of deforestation and unregulated harvest. Now, a century later, the Pennsylvania Game Commission is considering returning this iconic forest dweller back to the commonwealth. Join Game Commission Furbearer Biologist Tom Keller to learn about this exceptional creature and its diet, habitat, and history. Keller also discusses the important steps the Game Commission is taking to evaluate the potential for reintroduction and what that might look like in the future.
