Hello Marina, another great job. The Andy Griffin house is one of my favorites because of the cozy ambiance. The kitchen did not offer a lot of counter space or cabinets like today’s world, yet the character was able to cook and bake. The rooms were sparsely furnished with only the necessities and yet it provided comfort when you walk in. In today’s world people have wall to wall cabinets and counter space and the majority of people don’t want to cook. Homes are overstuffed with pictures, sculptures, mirrors and various other home decor. Furniture although may look Pinterest pretty are hard and so uncomfortable. What attracted me to the show was the warm ambiance of conversations and meals that were shared. This only proves material stuff can not replace family and friends fellowship. Marina, are you a set or home designer?

Marina, I can't imagine how many hours these take--and that you're so willing to painstakingly create these detailed models and share them with us. What a treasure you're giving us! I have a question about the Taylor home, specifically the second floor. I'm wondering how they get upstairs since there's no staircase landing on the second floor. Do you have any thoughts about that? My guess is that the stairs would need to land somewhere in or near Opie's bedroom.
@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane
2 жыл бұрын
I had to cut out a lot of potential content, since this episode was already so long. I wanted to cover the stairs. They couldn't exist where they are shown for at least two reasons. When you enter the home, as you'll remember, the wall with the closet and piano, has the stairwell going past the wall. But we see no bump out on the exterior. It is flat. But, even if the stairwell could be there, upstairs it would come out at the front of the house, instead of facing toward the back. And even though that's where you'd end up facing, we were shown them arriving next to Andy's room when they came up the stairs, facing the opposite way -toward the back of the home. There's more, but to make a long story short - the upstairs layout we were shown on tv is mythical. 😔

@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane Thanks for the speedy and thoughtful reply. I know that TV homes--especially the second floors--are completely oblivious to any reality. You must not be a die-hard fan of the show because you would know where Barney lived. In the boarding house owned my Mrs. Mendelbright. Mrs. Mendelbright was "the most faithful member of church" and was awarded a white Bible. She was hoodwinked by a stranger in town who was going to marry her for her money She had kicked Barney out of his room for cooking chili on a hot plate which was set on Mrs Mendelbright's mother's dresser which came all the way from Fort Lauderdale. TRUE FANS know where Barney lived.

I have always wondered about the TV homes and how they were laid out on television compared to as if they were real homes.. may more I love to see like Little House on the Prairie, and others alike.. however one series on television from the 1970s. Emergency was actually a real fire station in Carson, CA. Station 127. but I would love to see more so keep them coming.. and I love how you do each video.. and cannot wait to see what is next. now back to Mayberry, I remember as a small child we lived in a small town in central South Dakota, that actually had the same small town feel as Mayberry, where everyone knew everyone. and love to see times go back to much simpler times. Keep up the awesome work you do and its inspiring me to maybe hopefully in the near future I can can redecorate my apartment in the same way you recreate these tv homes

Mayberry was set in North Carolina -- and I grew up in a rural community in Northern Illinois. But, the show always reminded me of home -- we even had our own version of Barney Fife, who patroled the small town of 500 where I went to high school. The things that happened on the show reminds me of a lot of things that happened in my own Illinois home (we even had the equivalent of Floyd's barber shop -- where I had many a haircut). I can't help but think that's one of the reasons the show has been a classic all these years -- it wasn't just about North Carolina, or the south, it was about most rural areas across America during that time period. It was a show we could all relate to.

The Andy Griffith Show was such a joy to watch, when it was first broadcast all the way to this day. I enjoy the down home humor, and the lessons that were taught about love, honesty, and redeeming social values and qualities. The show still makes me laugh, personally I could not care less about the color of the trim being darker or lighter or what was placed in front of the living room window, etc, just enjoy the show for what it was.

This is so beautiful. My sister and I sat down after dinner last night and watched this tour. It was like returning home. This was one of the first TV Shows we watched when we came to this country. If I didn't live the life of a musician/ conductor with my orchestra in Los Angeles I probably would have lived in a home like this in a small town. It's simple but elegant. And you are so correct about these homes being created by the personalities of the people living in them. I can't see Laura in this kitchen nor Aunt Bea in Laura's Kitchen. Both are beautiful, but these kitchens belong to their personalities. This is why when we in the real world look for a home we look for something that fits our personalities and then even further create it and design it to fit our personalities. Perhaps that is why we all love these characters. We can relate with them and for all of us they are real people and their homes are real. You really tapped into that, especially with the fourth wall. I really love your interpretations, they suit logically the characteristic of the homes and the people that live in them. Keep doing what you are. doing. You are wonderful.

I noticed that it was shown in different areas at different times. I'm assuming it had to do with what was needed for a scene. The sofa grouping moved too - sometimes close to the steps down, sometimes farther away. So, some of the times the table was somewhat close to the opening to the kitchen.
