They’re married. The last blu-ray features this quote by Kobayashi: “Yes, but that would have led to parallel but separate storylines for Suletta and Miorine, which was impractical for a two-season format. As we refined the content, we decided to base it on Shakespeare's The Tempest. That set the goal - Suletta and Miorine would marry and become partners, and Prospera abandons her plans and vendetta to bless them.”

@@echs457 The show was split into two cours with the first half ending with that Suletta Splat scene and then the second one starting after that ending with what we now have. And it is that second half that I meant felt really rushed as a lot of side characters got sidelined and a lot of the plot points obviously set up by the first half where either forgotten about or resolved in a somewhat unsatisfying manner. Like I said, it was clear that the creators had so much more in mind for the show, clearly having originally intended for the usual 50 episodes, yet had to wrap it up as quickly as they could in just half that. (And perhaps even more given that the first cour seems to have been made with the intended pacing and then the second cour had to squeeze 3 cours worth of content into just one)

What??? He's actually the only attractive male character that caught in my eye that feels will do something crazy and wicked later on while the other looks so meme material or vendor boys doing something generic thing. Congratulations on their now finally-confirmed marriage. GWitch was never _not_ going to be a controversial show, being a new entry in a long-running franchise now featuring a female lead for the first time (I love Christina but let's face it, she's not what you remember from 0080), focusing on a queer romance as its core driving force, and making the... we'll say _"bold"_ creative choice to utilize a school setting and push politics further into the back seat in favor of a greater focus on interpersonal drama-- something which, despite what many people will have you believe, Gundam has always had, and which has always been the best part of the best Gundam shows. You know I'm right. The thing is, all of this alienated a lot of long-time fans, who couldn't relate to it in the ways they had with other Gundam series. Gundam has spent the last couple decades building up a fandom with a very "boys club" atmosphere, and while I am not going to interrogate _why_ today, that means a certain number of fans who previously felt at home in Gundam will simply not be able to see themselves and the struggles reflected in Suletta and Miorine, and won't be able to enjoy the show as a result. This, I think, was a big contributing factor to the show's controversy. But that alienation is a feature, not a bug-- the show's purpose, like every new Gundam AU, is to bring new people into Gundam by finding ways to present the timeless core of what Gundam _is_ to new audiences who may be intimidated by the franchise's long history, or who may not be able to connect to the characters and struggles presented in older shows. And by any reasonable metric, GWitch did that beautifully. It brought in people who probably never would have touched Gundam, and showed them what Gundam has always been about in terms that they understand, and many of these people, armed with this key to understanding the appeal of the franchise, have stuck around, and begun to explore the rest of the franchise, and enjoy it. They got the messages about war and politics just fine, because it was conveyed through the medium of two girls struggling to live and love each other in the midst of a corpo-military dictatorship tearing itself apart from the inside out and _insisting_ on making it _their_ problem, rather than through the medium of sad stoic boys saying "but even so..." So yeah, I have two things to say for people who didn't connect with GWitch: 1: That's fine. You don't have to like it. It's okay for some things to not be for you. Let the new people have this show. They clearly see things in it that you don't, but what they get out of it is, at its core, the same things you love about Gundam. Unless you're one of those people who are just like "wow cool robot" and didn't realize that the whole point of every single one of these shows is to hammer into your head that "hey war is bad, actually." 2: Guys, you gotta let go of Guel Jeturk. I love him too but he really isn't that interesting of a character. Your obsession with him is weird and you all look crazy for riding the dick of this pink-haired failboy so damn hard. Please, we're worried about you.

To be brutally honest, if Gundam will release anything new in terms of anime... nope, it ain't gona be a Witch sequel. One thing is the ending, which however rushed or confusing, doesn't really leave much space to go on further in any meaningful manner. Not for now, at any rate. The other... they've confirmed work on a new U.C project. Hmm... my thoughts on the show? Ehh, only few scenes particularly hit me, but none of them really involved the main duo being lovey-dovey, which... ehh, it is what it is. Doesn't really interest me, but doesn't repel either. I came here for big robutz doing pew-pew and I got big robutz doing pew-pew; I'm content. About 6.5/10 for me. Why so low, you may ask? Well, that's because I judge anime on how much they matter to me personally, rather than do it on the scale of series, industry itself or community. Out of stuff I've watched during this season, I found "Gun x Sword" (2004) far more enjoyable. My favourite scene was when the guy with big moustache said "It's moustache time!" and then they started moustaching all over those guys... no, it's not a joke. It's an actual scene from the 2nd episode.

I mean if Kana Ichinose and Lynn and Ichiro Okouchi interpret them as married, then I'll trust them over the execs at Banrise who don't watch this shit; Tomino said that Charma shippers have saved Gundam back in '79; and yet the one time where it's not just subtext, Banrise shot themselves in the foot to please markets that aren't as queer friendly and have a lot of money (China, Singapore, etc.) Like they could have just fucking ignored it, or released the altered version of the interview only in the aforementioned queer-unfriendly markets, and then made hella money from Sulemio queer pride merchandise because Rainbow Capitalism is damn profitable (and I'd buy that shit because I love those gay girls), but they somehow let homophobia take priority over their usual insatiable greed. I am not fond of the concept of Rainbow Capitalism as it's not truly about queer people, but the fact that Banrise couldn't even be bothered to even try says a lot about the mindset of the execs. As for G-Witch itself, it needed more time in the oven; another 12 episode cour would've given it more breathing room; but given how overworked everyone seemed to be (90+ animators in the last episode), I'd rather it either be given the FMAB/HxH 2011 treatment a few years from now, or have some supplementary OVAs produced (adapting stuff from the G-Witch novels), and a 9 episode OVA redoing the last 5-6 episodes to give the story more time to really "breathe". Okouchi did pretty damn well given the stressful conditions, and so did all the artists, VAs, sound designers, etc., so it's truly disappointing to see the banrise oldheads mismanage this franchise at every turn. It's kind of like Pokémon; the merch sales make the profit, and the people working on the actual creative projects are overworked.

Tbh, TWfM started to slow beside episode 0, an unnecesary gory jump in the end of the first season, and go to fast in the second season, to end with a Deus Ex Machina that destoryed a Diabolus Ex Machina, conflict from nowhere ended with a plot armor, if this Gundam was more a personal story, like a side war instead for being in the main war, that can worked better, you don't need save the planet ending the war to end a gundam show, you just need end THE BATTLE of the characters in that moment lives, and the rest of war is part of the worldbuilding, and can drive for a new season, but how was ended here, there's no more material to work, so more TWfM is very unlikely in the near future. Overall TWfM was not the best Gundam AU show, but not the worst also, is literally in the middle for me.

An actual decent video on the topic i thank you for it. Most of the others about this are the typical "It's the wokes" rage bait videos. Personally i don't think this was the best gundam but i do think it was a great gundam to bring in new fans which the sales as you said does cement that right. As for why they retconned it i dunno to me it kinda seems like they did not want to alienate anyone and tried to make everyone happy by saying it was open to interpretation. Honestly they could have just said nothing and left it as is and nothing would be different imo ofcourse. But either way for bandai it's a success and they might try something similar in the future as they will try and capitalize on their newfound growth.

Not gonna lie, as a veteran gundam fan WFM was incredibly **THIN** and boring to me. I'm seeing a few middling ratings in this comment section and I couldn't agree more. Especially given current world events, and other anime sequels/remakes that have come out recently. There have been a handful of bad gundam series before, but this may have been the only one I was actually disappointed in. And many of my reasons seem to contribute to what made it so popular. I found myself constantly asking, "what gives anime heads?" Why do so many of you like mediocre deliveries? is it the kawaiiness? is it that you can be a 12 resin doll of the main character? I also don't understand a lot of the criticisms of it. A lot of them aren't over the actual story or writing. But over singular things like the relationships. It feels like no one who disliked it actually cared enough to critique it properly.

Tbh there is a bigger conversation to be had about what should and should not be up to interpretation, namely, OUTSIDE the context of someones speech online and what they do there and what they think in their minds, and outside of, generally, all of our collective control unless we make a really big effort to make things hard for our government to function otherwise if we don't get what we want... These things, in practice, that are "subjective" because governments are unwilling to act on them due to all these greater powers deciding shit we don't want decided for us, being, well, the people with the money and power to do so... i.e. arresting people for simply doing or owning stuff in their own home that the government doesn't like, i.e. being a person attracted to the physical appearance of minors and buying a bunch of CDs with that sort of material... which I gotta say, is a bit of a grey area and a lot to unpack cause it's just generally been acted upon with the attitude that "all pedophiles are offenders" which is just plain outright not true, and insulting of peoples inherent ability to hold themselves back from doing stuff, like a wolf immediately going for a kill without a second thought cause there are no laws in place to stop them from doing so... As if laws can stop a dog from biting someone, although WE REALLY don't want to cause people physical harm and I do not wish to unravel ALL frameworks in place, I merely wish to focus only on the ones that are benign and don't effect anyone else, and share my opinions without being taken grossly out of context and being called a pedo just cause I DARED to talk about the fact that pedo's are kinda conflated with, well, sex-offenders, whom are NOT EVEN exclusively pedos! They're just idiots, plain and simple, regardless of what they're sexually attracted to, regardless of their birth sex or sexual/gender identity! The fact that "up to interpretation" is being used in manners to basically plausibly deny something that might've happened from being acted upon, is clearly, in my mind, a violation of some sort of law, that there's some sort of a lack of interest or perhaps, the power/motivation to resolve... Although I sortof am just speaking from the top of my head on this matter, as I've done a lot of research/note taking on youtube videos and this stuff is sortof second nature/common knowledge to me now, which makes me very susceptible to being biased and/or wrong, and I'd like to preface that I am acting under the belief that we live in a society where saying anything SHOULD BE allowed to stay on the internet, so long as its not spam, and we SHOULD, instead of removing stuff that falls under the category that false articles do, we instead mark these types of things with explanations as to why its incorrect/not the full picture(although this would apply namely to things outside of just the blatantly wrong things we see online - plus we gotta make it interesting for people to look into themselves, plus maybe make social media platforms a public good or something like that, with government regulation like the regulation we see with food health & safety inspections... or will no longer see at some point potentially cause POLITICS but also maybe possibly some other variables in the mix too, I'm really confused).
