She’s being selfish but I can’t help but also feel bad for Monica in regard to her parents. The way her mom constantly put her down throughout her life and her dad never stood up for her would have been enough for me to consider cutting them off if I were in her shoes. Even as early as the first episode, when Ross reveals to them that he’s getting divorced because his wife’s gay and also that she’s pregnant with his child, the first thing her mom does is turn to Monica and place blame on her for not telling them since she also knew. The wedding would have been my last straw. I can’t imagine being in Monica’s shoes, sitting across from my parents, specifically my mom, who would always make comments about how unlikely it is I’ll be getting married, say they blew off the money they promised was meant to go to my wedding, citing a requirement that I hadn’t even known existed (that I had to be married before 30, otherwise I’d be expected to pay for my own wedding), meanwhile they fully supported and were willing to pay at least half for both of my brother’s weddings.

As an Indian, in my family brides don’t expect anything because we know that there’s gonna be a lot of people Abe at the end of the day we’re gonna leave our family (which may involve crying or not).

I love when friends handles money issues. This episode, the episode where they all go out to eat and split checks.

I’m getting married next week and without even realising it have said the exact quote “I want a marriage, not a wedding.” About a million times

I’m on his side here. Dreams aren’t always realistic. No matter how much you spend on a day it will never be more important than a lifetime

I feel like planning and paying for a wedding should absolutely be the time where the things that you want can be found at cheaper prices or just made yourself. Use a portion to pay for the big things that you absolutely need. But also knowing when you don't need to have top tier for everything. When my sister got married, I helped her build her wedding arch from some stick she found in her backyard. It was super easy.
