So even though Lishu is still being bullied by her other handmaidens, her poison taster and her have been getting along better. Ever since Maomao lets the poison taster know Lishu isn't just being picky, that she could actually die, all the scenes with the two of them together have the taster looking at Lishu with concern or apprehension, like she's worried for Lishu. The scene that portrays this the best that sticks out in my mind is when Ah-Duo was leaving the palace, and Lishu started running after her (at about 20:10 in episode 11). Lishu is running after Ah-Duo, and the only handmaiden that is following Lishu is the poison taster, trying to catch up to Lishu with a look of concern on her face, while her other handmaidens are just slowly walking behind looking bored and annoyed.

For the taster, my take was it started in a self-centered way ("oh no, this scary girl Maomao will have me killed if I put Lishu in danger again") and developed into a genuine care and concern over time, maybe without the taster even realizing. If only because it more clearly emphasizes Maomao as the cause of that positive change by calling her out indirectly and then covering for her. But all that is only really told through facial expressions so it'd be easy to interpret it differently.

@@VoodooChile_42 Ya definitely. Until we're told/shown otherwise, all we have to go with right now is the taster's expression. I still read it as her showing genuine concern for Lishu, though.

3:50 Sorry to comment on the "reading comments" section, but to add a bit of historical clarification, the eunuchs of the Inner Palace hadn't been punished. It's a "voluntary" (quotes because of coercive power structures) thing. You want to work there because it's a prestigious job, but we can't have you getting it on w/ the concubines, so some sacrifices have to be made. On the subject of the theory, Maomao does note in episode 1 that the emperor's family is exempt from the eunuch requirement.

I'm guessing the seaweed, like fish & shellfish can be poisonous depending on environment. Like poison algae blooms.

The honey/poison thing was because I didn't wanna roll back into previous episodes to try and find which one it happened in, as I was binging. commenting before actual reaction stuff > Jinshi as a *not* eunuch Soooo, there are a few ways to do the whole eunuch thing. Sticks, stones, or both. I am not sure which way they went here/historically. But what better place to hide a royal heir, than where no *Men* are allowed? Surely the crown wouldn't castrate someone of such importance to the bloodline. OH! and further evidence that Jinshi isn't a eunuch is that Maomao thought about kicking him in the crotch, but changed her mind on the assumption of his eunuch status. Which smells like loading a chekov''s gun. To get us to think that there isn't some super beautiful penis hiding down there.

Yep, dust explosions can happen with any fine combustible powder. I remember Mythbusters built a cannon which made a massive fireball by shooting dry coffee creamer into the air and igniting it. Edit: I guess discord beat me to it.

There's an old middle grade mystery series called Encyclopedia Brown, and one of the stories involved exploding airborne flour, which is where I heard of it.
