Great video and as always I’ve gleaned many helpful tips. I have been guilty of either trying to use one app for all written items (notes, tasks, long form, etc) or trying to use multiple apps for the same system, thus duplicating the same content, wasting time, and getting frustrated. The idea of having specific applications for specific types of writing / notes / etc make great sense. I’m off to adjust my daily systems as I can see how this can ultimately help me save time and improve my focus.

Definitely wasn't expecting so many default apps from Apple. I love Apple simplicity but sometimes I need a bit more. I have been a long-time user of Evernote but switched to OneNote for a few years and then came back. I know a lot of vocal Evernote users aren't happy with the product, but it works for me. Spark Mail > Apple Mail Evernote > Apple Notes Microsoft Edge > Safari Todoist is king.

Apple notes is amazing, but gosh I wish they had more text styling available - specifically, changing colors and highlighting right from the top menu bar rather than toggling the clunky color wheel . As for your Evernote thoughts, I completely agree. It’s an awesome tool and I fully understand why the app is going where it’s going but it also isn’t for me. I like simplicity. I use Craft docs fairly hard… it’s basically a suped app apple notes with better editing experience and it’s native. But I also wonder how I can decrease my app subscription costs and apple notes allows that. This productivity space is amazing but also so hard to pick tools 🤣

Hey Carl. How do you find the search within Apple Mail? I personally have had nothing but issues with it in the past where it doesn’t pull up everything. This pertains to the Mac, seems like the iOS devices don’t have the same issues…

Thank you very much, Carl! I use almost the same apps on a daily basis. Sadly I have the same feeling about Evernote. It's a brilliant application. I should point out that some changes they've made are really good (for example better formatting options with headers, subheaders, initial Markdown-like markup support) but the overall feeling is that it's starting to be sluggish and overwhelmed. I can't find a decent alternative to it for now. I'm playing with Obsidian and Apple Notes but they just don't have some of the features that I need and that are present in Evernote. Their amazing web-clipper, OCR, searching within attached PDFs and documents, easy linking between notes (hello, Apple!)... They're just the features we love Evernote for. I really hope that the Evernote team sees us and they will do some corrections in their direction and vision... but I'm forced to do my research on alternatives. Glad to see your tools are similar to mine. And really glad that you have the I'm same doubts about Evernote. I thought I'm crazy and picky about that but now I can see that I'm not the only one in doubt. Thank you for sharing! P.S. also I want to get a try on Ulysses. My writing part of the workflow isn't covered (blog posts, comments, greetings, scripts, etc) and this app might cover this :)

I have the same concerns about Evernote and the same trouble finding an alternative. Its web clipping and document storage, organization, and contextualization are what I've always loved, but it's getting so bloated. I'm contemplating Nimbus Note, which seems like it has a lot of the Evernote capture and document features and some of the newer bells and whistles like native Markdown and databases. I haven't made the leap but I'm really close.
