I recently retired, but used an old Bausch and Lomb magnifying glass at work due to a vision disorder. Customers started asking me how old the magnifying glass was. I found out it is a Bakelite magnifying glass and dates back to the 1930's because of the art deco design on the handle. I had a collector's item and didn't even know it!! I got another one just like it on Ebay with a yellow handle. I love them!!

Agradable vídeo, tu solo haces el arte o también haces el material?. Es decir veo que al minuto 3:15 hay un objeto con varios tonos singulares, ellos te los proveen o tu los creas?

You love Catalin plastic - So do I - Everything you show is Catalin - NOT Bakelite - Catalin was invented by Dr Fritz Pollak in 1926 - Leo Baekeland had nothing to do with the invention or production of Catalin. costume jewelry dealers 30 years ago - who wrote the first "Bakelite" jewelry books never did research. they called all modern plastics except lucite - Bakelight. Bakelight cannot be used as a generic name because Catalin is a cast resin [Bakelite is a molded resin] with a different formula and used a different chemical Catalyst [Hence the name - Catalin] - used in manufacture. more important Catalin had a different method to produce the resin. they had numerous different qualities as finished products. 95% of all the Bakelite produced in their factories from 1909-1940 was in powdered or liquid form - Not as a solid material. Catalin was manufactured from liquid state then hardened in lead molds to form in solid chunks including - rods -sheets - blocks. Catalin could be easily machined and carved while Bakelite once molded could NOT. Catalin is the "Gem of Plastics" and should be acknowledged as such. Dr Fritz Pollak - the wizard chemist is the one who gave the world fabulous rich - clear and marbled plastic colorways.
