Such good video 🎉🍋 specifically helpful to me was how you explained how a small light source v. large light source affects the sharpness of the shadows, plus ensuring the GOBO actually highlights your subject 👌👌👌

The reason why you may wanna play with shadows on patterned lights is not so hard to understand. The interplay between light and shadow is the only element of 2D (non-stereo) images that gives us information about depth. A picture taken completely flat using only ambient light, regardless of whether the result looks natural, will contain less visual information. Consequently it's less eye-catching. Conversely, a picture taken with a wide gradient of shadows from external obstructions will give the viewer a more reliable sense of depth. Some people call this effect "dramatic", because it creates contrast. I simply think of it as emphasising the subject. It's similar to the chiaroscuro explored in the renaissance. Depth in general is one of the reasons why I think taking a walk in the woods is psychologically therapeutic; it creates a stage a where strong perception of depth allows you to "calibrate" your eyes and use them properly.

difficult to determine from the Amazon link you provided on your clamp used to mount the camera to your stand - what model exactly was the clamp? The Amazon link shows several items, none of which seem to resemble the clamp shown in your video.

Hi Toine, the link to the video main light on Amazon isn’t available anymore. Could you help us update it? I was just hoping to learn the type of light it is, as it seems you only need one in your videos which would save a lot of space and money for us beginners. Thanks a bunch!

I like the video quite a lot. But would like to point out the No.1 tip is actually run. It does not depend on the distance from the object to GOBO, but depend on the distance between GOBO and the light.
