I like the German Equivalent to "apology". It's "Entschuldigung". The second part, "Schuld" means "guilt". You basically ask for someone to relieve you of your guilt. "Ich bitte um Entschuldigung", is a common phrasing and roughly translates to "I ask for you to/please relieve me of guilt".
@napoleonsittingonvegemite6234
6 жыл бұрын
Just to add imformation: You can also accept the apology using the same word: Ich entschuldige dich. =I relieve you of your guilt. (I think that doesnt work in english (correct me if im wrong !) Also my favourite German word is "Leidenschaft" -Leiden ( to feel pain) Schaft (To make, To create, Also a synonym for the penis haha :D - which means Passion and is directly translated to : "Pain Creates"
@gramursowanfaborden5820

"i relieve you of your guilt" makes perfect sense in English but is a bit old-fashioned, and we have a whole load of single words that mean the same thing in context, so almost nobody outside of an excessively dramatic TV show would actually say the sentence.

I dont mean that. I just have the feeling that you can say "I want to apologize" but you cant use the same word "apologize" to accept the apology "I apologize you" with "Entschuldigung" thats possible.

I think nowadays Trump just never apologizes for anything because it would just make the situation worse for him. So many people hate him that an apology just opens the floodgates. For that reason, he just never REALLY apologizes.
@wheatboi8255
6 жыл бұрын
EmanGameplay Apologizing is seen as weakness. It's why the right, who mocks anyone for being offended for literally anything, will pretend to be offended if it means it might make someone on the left apologize. It's why they came after Samantha Bee for saying Cunt but defended Trump for talking about how he can get away with sexual assault because he's rich. They got their apology, too. Which makes the left look weak and gives them the supposed high ground. So, remember the next time the party of "Lol are you offended libtard snowflake" themselves get offended by something that theyre not offended they're just trying to score points.
@jtr7377

What Wheatboi said, the US right has adopted the mentality that the US should never apologize under any circumstance, but expects other countries like Iran to make amends. The George H.W. Bush clip shown in the video is an excellent example, as I believe it pertains to the incident when a US naval ship shot down an Iranian passanger airplane that was in Iranian airspace (not that part makes much of a difference, as civilian airliners are not legitimate targets) while the US ship was in Iranian waters. Yet, the US right believes that Iran should make amends for the hostage situation during the Iranian Revolution. To be fair to Iran and the US, both are guilty, and both should make amends, but the radicals insist that we conduct ourselves like sociopaths. It is also disturbing that the left in the US has begun to adopt this mentality as well, but in regards to the US right wing. But it should be noted that this rise was fostered by the right wing.

Just some thoughts. A.) This video is mainly for public apology situations, in private issues they are to be handled very differently B.) The VAST majority of people, have a hard time admitting when they are wrong about anything ESPECIALLY IF IT'S IN SOME PUBLIC FASHION. Accept this as part of human nature. Most people don't blame themselves for their screw ups. C.) In private matters, apologizing can be a very helpful way to avoid trouble (if it's sincere) in that when someone feels wronged, the need to exert a certain sort of power over you begins to take hold. If you can beat them to it, apologies thoroughly before they attempt to exert that power, and a different sort of power need will replace it, the need to appear benevolent. It is just as potent as the need to for validation when wronged. I swear C. works, if you know what you're doing, I have talked my way out of alot of speeding tickets.

Why someone might use a non-apology. Reason 3: The offended will demand an unreasonable and disproportionate sacrifice of the wrongdoer as they feel this would make things "right". Unfortunately, though, sometimes attempting to apologize can come off as something else. After all, as you mentioned, it can be hard to admit. Also, sometimes things _aren't_ entirely one's own fault. Or there can be a strong desire to explain and have it be understood, and the line between successfully explaining in a sincere apology (that does say it, even perhaps with words like "that doesn't justify my actions") and what comes across as a non-apology (especially "I'm sorry but" type if worded incorrectly). Or an apology can be sincere, but the person can be an absolute failure at doing better in the future, making it seem like it never was as they continue making the same mistake over and over. Or someone can be "apologizing" for something other than their action. We use apologies, or at least the language of them, for showing lack of intent as well as taking responsibility. "I'm sorry if I upset you" is extremely likely to seem insincere or sarcastic, but "I'm sorry that it upset you" may be meant as a way to say "I don't think it was wrong of me to say/do that, but I didn't intend to upset you and I wish it hadn't" rather than being about regaining status at all.

Don't apologize, ever. Not to media, social or not, at least. that's what this has come to, you can be completley innocent of what you're accused of, don't apologize, don't engage or acknowledge.

Was that barbecue sauce? I don't think Trump would taste good even with bbq! All tough and stringy from old age, like improperly cooked venison.
