Great video ! Just want to add something to Beam - be careful when attempting to punish this move, as the beam hitbox on the head is wider than it seems. Approaching this area without caution will get you hit.

For anyone playing shieldless HBG, or some other weapon type that can’t sheathe fast enough to dive away, too slow to move out of range, or evade Rajang’s super slam, try using flash pods to dunk Rajang out of the air! I usually equip flash pods as soon as I see him harden his arms, that way I’m ready to quick switch to my slinger ammo once I see the initiation animation just in time to fire at the ground below me to get the dunk. It’s a tight window, but it’s practically my only chance as an HBG player to avoid it without evasion skills (including Evade Window 3). You can also stand in a trap, as once he lands, he will be affected by the trap some way, by either destroying the shock trap, or being tangled in a pitfall trap. He doesn’t initiate damage frames unless he carries out the move on landing without interruption. Hope this helps!

For the super roar, I more often time my roll to the moment rajang pulls his elbows downward very similar to dodging pseudo-wyvern and elder dragon roars when they spread their wing tips or wings out. The wind-up has the elbows inching upward bit by bit and wiggling before significantly pulling them downward and outward a split moment before the roar. I personally find using the pelvis as the visual cue a bit more obscure but I acknowledge as a solid alternative nonetheless. Amazing content, by the way! I love your Artful Dodger series a lot! My advice would be use evasion 2 or 3 and roll into his attacks so you start counterattacking sooner use maybe use greatsword for it's burst damage. Afaik there's not really a method besides spamming traps that will keep him still for long.
@meisteremin3228
4 жыл бұрын
on top of what the other guy said barioth is extremely predictable. he only has 3 things he can do out of any current positioning with no punishment if you fail or easy to tell. 1)fly the fuck up into the sliding landing. all you need to do is look up, see to which direction he will land and run to the opposite side for some quick attack. 2) quick jump into a bite or slide. this is absurdly easy to punish with ranged weapon and should be relatively the same with melee. make sure you look him in the eyes, and the moment he moves dodge to the side he jumps and stay perpendicular to his line of sight. if he did a bite immediately counter because hitbox on it is tiny. if he did a slide - well at least you keep the same distance and if you have ranged weapon just shoot 3) tail spin. it has absurd reach, leaves ice and really deceiving hitbox. however if you roll to his head this area is free of his tail and more than likely you will his tail anyway on accident because it moves extremely fast through you. important thing to note is when he is enraged he will start following up some moves with tooth slam which makes tremors. but did you notice I never said to roll backwards or forward? exactly, its really easy to avoid this and punish by doing exactly the same as if it was regular jump into a bite. he is just going to kill you if you roll somewhere else and thats the only difference. no timing required, no iframing, you just dodge to the left or to the right the whole fight and thats it

Hey, you have made some amazing videos about evading. Top notch and super appreciated. Though I've noticed that you are also a fan of the hunting horn! I was curious if you have done any testing on the Evade Window Up song. I was speaking with some of the guys that mod the game, and they thought that the game files implied that the buff gives +2 evade window. Also assuming that it stacks with your existing skills, with the normal cap of evade window 5. Though I'm not sure how accurate this information is, and was wondering if you had any insight on the song? I would like to put together a set with evade window 3, and use the song to max the skill out. But wanted to make sure it isn't like the evasion mantle, that gives a set amount of s, regardless of your current evade skill. Anyways, I'm sure you understand what I am trying to say, and am hoping that with your current knowledge and ability to test s, you could confirm; if not for me, but the hunting horn community as a whole! Thanks in advance, and keep up the great content.
@MonsterHunterPH
4 жыл бұрын
Hello, I have no reliable means to test iFrames but based on the Evade Up song description, the effect is indeed +2 evade window. The problem is, it does not stack with your current evade window skill so if you have equipped Eva+3, the Evade Up song will have zero effect because it will only count Eva+3 which is the higher of the two. This concept is exactly the same as Earplugs (s)
@alexhughes9771
4 жыл бұрын
@@MonsterHunterPH Thanks so much for the reply! Couple more questions. When you came to the conclusion that it does not stack; Is that based on an assumption? I'm not trying to discredit your comment, just curious as the modders stated is "should" stack, but both sides seem to be guessing. Like you mentioned, it's very hard to test. I was wondering if you came across anything that could be used for the test. For example the ground pound tremor attack Uragaan has. Something like that, that has such a long active hitbox that we could use to determine exactly how it works. Also, if it does not stack, and just give +2 evade window. In the example above, if I had evade window 3 currently on my skills, are you sure that it would do nothing, or is there a chance that it would actually "override" the armor skills, and essentially downgrade evade window from 3 to 2. Once again, this isn't to undermine your opinion, I came here looking for your input. I feel there is potential for this song as the speed increase also allows the opportunity to have more openings, especially on these end game, fast moving monsters.
@MonsterHunterPH
4 жыл бұрын
@@alexhughes9771 I honestly am not too certain too. My reasoning is that skills like Aquatic Expert, Evade Window, and Resuscitate all do not stack. If they would stack, a hunter would have an effect like Evade Window +9 at the very least. One way to test is by rolling into the training room barrel bombs then manually counting the frames of invulnerability there.
@alexhughes9771
4 жыл бұрын
@@MonsterHunterPH That's where I don't know what to think. The game is pretty inconsistent in terms of what it allows to stack, and what it does not. I believe Attack Up and Defense Up from the Hunting Horn stacks with Fortify. As I believe all those also stack with the Insect Glaive Buffs (Attack and Defense). The Coral Palico Attack Up song also stack with everything above. Which are all essentially, the same buffs; just a different name. As you mentioned, Earplugs does not stack with the song. But, using the Insect Glaive again, when new Flinch Free buff does stack with earplugs; allowing you to skill for Flinch Free 3, and Earplug 2. Once the kinsect buffs are up, you are now effectively rocking Earplugs 5. I agree that Aqautic Expert and Resuscitate don't stack with evade window. But I'm not sold on if the Evade Up song stacks or not, thus me asking your your thoughts on it. But, once again being inconsistent, Recovery Speed Song and the Skill Recovery Speed do stack. Recovery speed in general is something that stacks out of control, but that's another topic. Just was trying to provide examples of the game, almost at random; allowing buffs to stack or not. In your example, yes, it would be overpowered if allowed to stack above Evade window 5. But I have a hard time understanding how these decisions were made, as allowing Evade Window Up to stack with Evade Window doesn't seem overpowered at all, as long as it still caps at Evade Window 5 Getting back to the original request, I don't have any editing software or any experience with setting up these tests. I am curious if it is something easy for you to confirm, by testing in the training room with barrel bombs. Or is that request much more time consuming than you would be willing to endure. If that's the case I completely understand. I'm not asking you to have to waste time on my request, was just wondering if it's something you could confirm, as I feel it would fit nicely with your series, "The Artful Dodger". Thanks again, I appreciate the time you've spent replying!
@MissPoplarLeaf
4 жыл бұрын
From what I've seen, when the skills are differently named, such as Fortify and Attack Up, they stack. If they are named the same, such as the Earplugs buff and the Earplugs armor skill, they do not stack. So I assume the same goes for Evade Window.

I try rolling away from it but I am ALWAYS in it, even if I don't want to be, with the only time I'm able to dodge any of his attacks being when I'm in the air, where he just cannonball one shots me. This is ludicrous.

Your method for dodging his Super Slam doesn't work for me, and I expect this is because you are on Hunting Horn and you have the self improvement speed buff. For weapons that run at normal speed and have a slow sheathe, this move seems impossible to deal with, unless you just run around sheathed and wait for him to calm down.

Perhaps your timing may be a bit off? I linked a video below; I didn't buff my HH so it should have one of the slowest speeds in the game and I was still able to dodge it. You should be aware, too, that the Super Slam almost always comes out AFTER a Battering Ram attack. streamable.com/2vuue

@@MonsterHunterPH thanks for the quick response! It looks like you are iframing that slam, is it possible to dodge this attack, weapon out, without iframing?

@@Ironfungus I would imagine you would have to really outrun it by looking for tell-tale signs like after a whiffed battering ram or after a whiffed lightning ball. Technically you are correct that I am iFraming it but it should be noted that I have to iFrame away to clear myself out of the lingering active hitbox area.

When you use lance and can't reliably so you just have to eat the chip damage and unlockable lightning beam 🙃

Would blocking it with 2 pieces of uragaan be a bad idea? You can block anything with that, but IDK if it's like shara's where you'll die to chip if you try. I haven't fought rajang yet.

@@Bertoleyus if you have the shield charm, you wont need uragaan set bonus as it does the same thing but to answer your question, I don't think it would be a bad idea but I've never tried so idk how fast it will chip you down. I just don't want to sub anything out on my build. I did have a couple monster where I do sub one of my jewels out for guard up. I just tend to not use it if I don't have to because lance power guard has innate guard up after a short time.

@@dylanflynn1895 are you thinking of guard? Guard up just let's you block unblockables, that's it. I've never noticed a reduction in chip damage from it. I'll run a test with it and see for myself but I'm fairly certain guard up does nothing for chip.
