How perfectly, predictably, pathetic was Frisco’s call? Insulting the hosts, refusing to answer questions, yelling when challenged, reading nonsense from a book instead of providing evidence, lazy and insulting generalizations about atheists, and, finally, a cowardly exit when the hosts held his feet to the fire. Biogeography works better, since after all the shoreline shapes could, conceivably, be coincidence. The existence of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, however, and the fact that the continental shelves fit too, clinched it. They should have probably taken the idea more seriously-I understand there was a lot of conservative stubbornness-but proper skepticism was appropriate up to a point. Why throw a model which was built up on obervations and build something completely new (which als must explain all observations that led to the previous model), if smaller adaptions are sufficient. I'm not sure about the actual observations regarding an earth with no tectonic plates, but I guess there was no real evidence, but mostly belief. In this case scientists should be more open to other models than let's say current observations of the JWST which seem to contradict the Big Bang model, which stood the test of time for quite a while.

Gotta love the idea that god gives you free will but only within the confines of his will...yet he holds no responsibility. Like dropping a rat in a maze with poison at one end and food at the other, then blaming the rat for getting poisoned when you could have put food at both ends.

My favorite is when Moses went to the pharaoh to ask for the slaves to be freed. The bible literally says that god hardened the pharaohs heart. That implies the pharaoh would have at least considered the request. But god had to get it’s first born killing spree in. And to add onto that it needed its followers to mark their doors with blood so it wouldn’t accidentally kill them too. What kinda god needs a visual indicator to know who its followers are?
@EmpressLizard81

@@jayrose8638 You know... Wouldn't the moral thing to do in that situation be to paint EVERY door so then NOBODY dies? If I really thought a deity was about to wreak major havoc with the town I lived in, I'd probably kill a couple of extra goats since God can't tell the difference.

As an Australian, I’ve worked with and respected American people. However I am bewildered as to how many of them believe there is a god at all. (The recent census says that Australia now only has 43% christians.) Most of them haven’t even read the bible fully, instead just hearing only the nice parts from parents and religious leaders. (That’s the answer to the callers question about bible popularity, it’s because parents tell their little children they must believe and worship or they will burn in hell forever when they die.) It’s full of inaccuracies that today’s kindergarten kids can point out, it also glorifies the mass murder of babies, children, and adults. It gloats about children being mutilated for being cheeky to a bald man. Mark Twain said, “The Best way to escape religion is to read the Bible.”

Being American, I think indoctrination at a very young age plays a huge role. Churches know this to be true, and strongly urge members to involve their kids in all facets of church activities besides mass. (i was raised Catholic and had to attend catechism) I'm the only one in my family to have broken free from this indoctrination. The fear of hell was very hard to let go of. In addition, religion has its hands in everything here. Whether its a 12-step program, or reaching out to a charity; Getting unwanted preaching from one's therapist, doctor, or co-worker, or just all the advertising everywhere. In my small city, there's about 300 churches.

I am fairly new to atheism (2 yrs maybe) and I still am always trying to understand more the positions of evolution, cosmology, logic, all that stuff. I can say though, the more I learn about astrophysics, the more the big bang makes sense. The more I learn about evolution (almost typed evilution, lol) the more it makes sense, along with abiogenesis. It's so fun to learn about the universe we live in!
