I don't think we're far from being able to project movies with our cars' headlights, which would actually be amazing.

i wish every car had variable ride height, even if it was manually controlled. 99% of the time you want the lowest ride height possible, but the 1% of the time you need to go over a bump means the car is higher than it needs to be all the time. I want slow off-road mode where if you stay under 30mph, you can push a button and the car gets tall.

That should work properly for many years to come. And if it should ever fail, highly unlikely it will be cheap to fix.

it's not necessarily a good thing to want to have the frame be impacted in a side collision. The softer side panels will spread the force of the impact over a longer distance, reducing the forces experiences on the occupants. I feel like you got something wrong in your explanation. I think the frame (which is likely unibody) is designed to crumple just as much as the side paneling, but the goal that audi is hoping to achieve is to shift the impact at an angle to further minimize injury to the occupants on that side of the vehicle.

Allow me to introduce you all to the 2018 Ford Fusion Sport that delt with potholes much differently: It literally PULLED UP the suspension so the wheel wouldn't ride down into the pothole, making it MUCH smoother. Ford called this the "Pothole Mitigation System"
