The colour looks ace Tom, I expect you're really happy to have them both back in your garage. Altering the fuel tank seems a great idea as my tank has took a beating too, so I was unsure what to do with it. I had a massive set back with mine these last few weeks. Not sure wether you've seen any UK news on the flooding, my shell was under water by nearly a metre. Just before the floods came I'd been rebuilding my engine and had it 85% finished. Fortunately I'd decided to get it out of harms way and took it to higher ground, so so glad I did as the bench I'd been working on went underwater.

I bet it’s a nice feeling to see both painted cars side by side in the garage. Love the amount of attention to detail that you put into all this stuff. As far as where to put the filler- not sure. I’m still undecided on that one. Back of tank on drivers side is likely most common. If you want something that stands out, then go with the passenger side or on the front, but what do I know... there’s probably some drawbacks to both. If on the passenger side, you have to be careful with gas pump hose scratching the fender. If on front, you’ll probably have to park in between gas pumps, pissing off the guy behind you for not pulling up all the way up. On the other hand, I’m not sure about what’s best for race track purposes and fast fill-ups.

Neat. Even though I’m going with a built N/A Subaru twin cam (~215 hp), I think I’ll probably just leave my CIS tank stock and use a regular recirculating Rabbit CIS pump with external pressure regulator. It’s set up at the same pressure my injectors need. But I’m building a daily driver with an emphasis on reliability, that’ll only see light weekend auto cross action. Definitely not building a track car. Different engineering goals.

1. To get decent bends on difficult tubing angles i use to put some sort of substance in the tubing to keep collapsing to a minimum. One time I even tried freezing water in the tube.... and it came out pretty darn good. Lol but I think I got lucky on that one. 2. Have your gas overflow bowl vent back into the gas tank.....use steel braided line... i think it gives that filler neck a outlaw look to it. Tank looks amazing

I vote for #2........... easy to get to and not in the way of any future mods to any strut tower bracing. I know you've already addressed that issue, but we both know this car is an ongoing Work in Progress. Maybe i missed it, but what will be in place to allow for fuel expansion on a hot day? You certainly want some "head space" in the tank for that.

If there's enough head room under the hood, I'd go with 2. Seems like that back corner where 3 would be is getting pretty crowded with other stuff, and it would be a bummer to make it harder to mount and service the fuel pump.

On the topic of fuel filler neck, think #2 will be too low with relation to the high point of the tank and restricted on how tall the neck could be due to hood clearance. #1 or #3 would be OK but why not limit new holes and use the oval instead. It is already at the high point in the tank and you have hood clearance for a taller neck. Jut a thought, love the work your doing, very inspirational for my project but most likely will not do extensive tank mods like yours. Tanks a lot! added: see that other suggested the same
@GarageTimeAutoResto

The more I think about it, I like your idea of using the oval. (Another commenter also suggested this). I had already convinced myself to CNC a cool aluminum cover plate for that oval. However a dual functioning plate there fits my goals nicely. It's easy to access the fuel pump, no more drilling, and the access/clearance is good there right on top of the tank. This means that the plate will need to be steel if I want to use the filler neck I already started. (For weldability reasons). Instead of machining an O ring groove in aluminum I could use flat gaskets instead. You got my brain spinning again 👍

#2 ... and just need to pull the car up well before the fuel pump/bowser so the fuel / gas hose is well in front of the car then never have to drape over the car or cars fenders/wings The height of the fuel neck will determine the height of the fuel

In this scenario I'd even consider placing the filler neck at a forward angle on the forward portion of the tank radius, but not so far as to interfere with the spare. If you're concerned about forward fuel slosh under heavy braking just weld a baffle to the inside tank portion.
