I do take issue with your suggestion of the hyper 212 as a cheaper option. The H212 is a ten year old design at this point, and it falls behind newer ones such as the se-224-xt or even gammaxx GTE V2. Also, the notion that Noctua is uncontested in performance is a bit misinformed. All of their case fans except for the A12x25 are beaten by the much cheaper Arctic P12 PWM, and there are several coolers that can hit the performance levels of the NH-D15 at a lower cost. Their products aren't bad, but their brand reputation does give them a bit more hype than they likely deserve.
@itsTyrion

You should've thrown in a Hyper 212 imo. Yes ik it's cheaper. One thing I really approve: The NH-U12s Redux costs the same in Euros than it does in Dollars. While Euros are worth more, it's pretty common for a $99 product to just €110 or so

I came from a cheap 240aio to an NH-L9a... I was doubting it would be more silent in my tiny system... I was blown away it was less silent and more pleasing to the ear by a huge margin, I simply cannot recommend any other fans/cooler than Noctua now

I'm not sure if it's an "issue" specific to Noctua fan designs, but installing the NH-D15's fans with the intake side mounted to the rear of the fin stacks causes very noticeable noisy turbulence. I would assume that's why they included the thick spacers for the rear fan.

My Hyper 212 EVO is doing the job just fine. I understand there are better and more expensive choices, but I don't see why anyone would invest in the cooler instead of in the CPU, GPU or RAM, while a simple 212 will keep your CPU cool enough and without noise. Unless you're overclocking, but then you might want to buy a liquid cooler. These middle grounds don't make any sense to me.
