Real pleasure to watch someone with true reverence for Dylan. One of my favourite movies of all time.

Dylan is a one off, unique, irreplaceable the likes of whom we will never see again. He always has an amazing backing band, including The Band ...

❤ Dylan, Robbie and The Band! Great versions, the full songs can be found on The Last Waltz album. They also do 'I Shall Be Released' bringing everyone back on stage to sing. I like the demo of 'Forever Young', just Dylan and an acoustic. The one Dylan concert I've been to was amazing, it's in my top ten.

You should listen and react to “Bob Dylan - forever young from shadow kingdom” he re recorded the song in 2021 during the pandemic in a studio then released a cool stylistic black and white music video it gives the song a whole new meaning coming from an 80 year old Dylan

Dylan NEVER performs a song the same way twice! If you want the classic you remember from your youth, listen to the studio version, because every time live will be totally different.

Howard cosell recited this song on national tv to muhammad ali the night he won the heavyweight crown for the third time im sure you're aware of howard & ali's relationship they were hysterical together but it made howard reading this to ali on national tv all the more poignant also about bob dylan live ive seen bob twice the last time was in 2001 & its a show i'll never forget he was very present & one of the coolest dudes ive ever seen on stage and ive seen elvis three times..mind you as a 8, 11 & 14 yr old never as an adult like with dylan but dylan was unforgettable in 2001

Haven't seen this in years. Thanks. Agree with you about Forever Young. The Band was an excellent backup group for Dylan because Dylan liked to keep things loose. They had ears; players like Garth, Richard, and Levon knew how to fill; Robbie wasn't a technical wizard on guitar but he was almost always clean and tasteful.

Too bad your Dad had a crappy live experience with Bob, it's true that it's really hit or miss with him. I saw him for the first time way back in 1988 and he was frikking awful, it was so disappointing. Then I finally saw him again in 2012, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to - but a friend of mine went 2 nights later in a different city and said it was one of his worst. This performance though - talk about fantastic. Great choice, great reaction as always, cheers from Canada!

My sister saw him twice within one month in the 80s, I think it was the tour he did with Tom Petty, and one was the worst, and the second he was the best she ever saw him perform. I saw him in 1975 on the Rolling Thunder Review, the best concert I ever saw, I. 1919 when he was just Meh ( he was strangely distant), and in 2004 when he was great.

Your anecdote about Neil Diamond and Bob Dylan is spot on, and it’s during this concert!!!! When leaving the stage Diamond would have said to Dylan, top that! And Dylan would have responded: with what, falling asleep? Unlike the others Diamond only did one song in the Last Waltz!

Ahhhh, this takes me back. Very good concert documentary. Filmed by Scorsese it would be. Dylan had some great songs - music and lyrics - and The Band were the perfect support. I can empathize with your dad's experience. I was lucky enough to see Dylan in Perth, Australia, in March, 1978. Post-The Band Dylan changed up almost every one of his songs. To the extent, as you said of your dad, you didn't necessarily recognize a song when it began. However, once I realized what Dylan was doing - and it only took a couple of songs - I really enjoyed the concert. It's hard to describe just how different the songs were. But to give you an idea: "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" is done reggae-style, Thankfully they recorded "Bob Dylan at Budokan" which captures that sound. Unfortunately, there are no recordings with vision. The closest I can find are the 1976 Fort Collins ones.
