Don't forget that in the book, the interviews are set about 30-40 years after the band split, and in the series, they happen only 20 years after. In the book, when Billy and Camila's daughter Julia interviewd them, they're in their 60s-70s, while in the series, they're supposed to be in their 40s even though they didn't do a good job aging them up 🤣 We can imagine that Eddie didn't have much luck in his 40s but maybe towards his 60s-70s he found success and became a producer.

honestly some people really don't age that obviously. people still mistake my mum (in her late fifties) for a spry thirty-year-old. i thought the aging effects were _okay_ at least - they went for subtle details and i see that. the weird part is sam claflin (billy's actor) looking convincingly older for the interview bits, but in the "flashbacks" of the band as young twentyish-year-olds he just looked _so_ much older.
@samatar6852

yeah nah. You can tell the difference between someone when they were intheir 20s and when they were in their 40s always.They did not a convincing job for any of them. They should have casted younger for the past storyline and casted different older actors in their 60s/70s for the interview scenes. In the book the interviews take place like 40 years after not 20.@@Bluey306

The ending was too cliché for me with the dying perfect woman trope and the lead roles getting together like in HIMYM. We accept that they were bad for each other in the end, so why bother? Also, at the beginning of the series, it felt like it's their trauma who made them want to become rock stars. Trauma makes you unstable, but it's not necessarily an origin story for success. I didn't get or like the correlation.

This was the weakest part of the series for me. Sure it was far too "happy endings" and a bit HIMYM "great that she died so you two could finally be together" for my taste, but even assuming this was the ending as dictated by the book, the execution of it was just so so poor. For example, Karen's "this was what he needed to hear...I wasn't being honest", why does that need to be said out loud? These emotional moments would be far more impactful communicated via subtext, like Karen saying X but maybe Suki Waterhouse's acting or a quick cut and we as audience knows the truth is different. This is such lazy filmmaking. The same with daughter Julia, honestly it would be better to not even show her onscreen as the adult interviewer, better to just let viewers realized through watching the interivew that it was the daugher, like when Billy said "your mother got sick". Or maybe just show the clips of this "documentary" to end the show and show what happened to everyone. Anyway, so many different ways to make this better than the Lifetime movie of the month ending we got.
