The Bard class was not part of original D&D, but debuted just two short years years in issue #6 of "The Strategic Review," inspired by a combination of Norse Skalds, Celtic Bards, and European Minstrels. Gary Gygax adapted that class to include in the 1st Edition Advanced D&D Player's Handbook, keeping the Celtic origins and aligning the class with the Druids. Over time, the class has veered away from the stoic warrior-poet and into the stereotypical overly amorous character that's but a shadow of its origins.
