Bartolotti's musick is extremely lyrical, thoughtful, and well-structured. That said, the lack of a true bass creates a sound that is extremely uncontrasted in tone and colour, which, without a more pronounced strumming, or an adjustment in the plucking technique, quickly leaves the music sounding inadequate, and monotonously bare to the ear.

With regard to more pronounced strumming: the music is predominantly written in a refined pizzicato (or punteado) style, with just very few battuto (rasgueado) chords involved. The small musical universe of the baroque guitar is quite particular. This makes that the ear has to get accustomed to it, to be able to appreciate the subtle (but appropriate) shades in colour and tone.

@@secondolibro Thank you, dear Second, but, alas, I am already aware of all that, so, essentially, I am not criticizing the performer, but, the composer. Though the two part counterpoint is solid, on the whole, the rhetoric pales next to that of Corbetta's efforts in the genre, or those of DeVisee. Thank you for your thoughts.

@@beasheerhan4482 Sorry to disagree with you, but I for one find Bartolotti's music far superior to Corbetta's. And that is not to diminish Corbetta at all- Corbetta is deservedly one of the pillars of the baroque guitar canon. I just feel that Bartolotti is more of a hidden gem that hasn't been played a million times, although more players are discovering his music. To some of your other criticisms, saying "there's a lack of true bass" is the very essence of what the baroque guitar is. Furthermore, the strumming should ideally blend with the plucked notes and a good player will integrate both techniques in a seemless and sonically integrated way. (BTW, I like your channel and just subscribed!)
