Man, I love playing in 6/8 (e.g., How He Loves). It grooves so well.

You are a damn good drummer brother! I knew when I joined my church praise band I was gonna have to learn how to count because I am self taught playing the drums since 1980 but NOW it's time to really learn to read music and count

I’m playing 5 sovereign grace hymns in 3/4 this Sunday lol. Gonna try to do some Tom grooves on the first two songs so they don’t all sound so similar First time playing with a band in years too wish me luck.

Great video, very pedagogical! As a singer that just started getting into the rhythm game more and learn the difference between 3/4, 6/8 and 8/12 rhythm, this was super helpful! As a gospel lover I'd also very much appreciate if you could share some worship songs in 3/4 that you like as it's always fun to find new songs to sing and especially in this rather unique rhythm. Thanks again!

Here’s a list of some 3/4 worship! Great is Thy Faithfullness (Beginning to end) Jesus Paid it All (Passion) In Christ Alone (Passion) Be Thou My Vision (Ascend the Hill) Rock of Ages (Norton Hall Band “this one has a cool rhythm”)

@@worshipdrumming843 Thank you so much for this wonderful list, that's very helpful and what beautiful songs! I especially liked the last two. Rock of Ages indeed has a very cool rhythm. Be Thou My Vision had some amazing dynamic changes in it, from the crescendo high notes to the soft, emotional ending - I loved it so that has to be my favorite out of these. Can't wait to sing these songs. On another note, I will definitely keep following you for more rhythm demonstrations. You drummers honestly are the best ones to learn from when it comes to rhythm. If you sing yourself sometimes while playing the drums that would be a real treat to see how you combine it with playing the instrument. If you don't sing you should definitely start taking singing lessons because taking lessons to learn how to sing for me has been the most eyeopening, self-realizing, spritually evolving, wonderful thing I ever did for myself. There are honestly few ways to express your emotions that are as liberating, joyful and as pure as through singing a song or hymn.

I’m trying to learn drums online right now. This video helped so much thanks for this awesome video. I have one question, if we learn these time signatures and their beats can we play those beats in any corresponding song with the time signature? For example if the song was in 4/4 would we use 4/4 beat to play the song? Thanks!

Thanks So Much for this... hearing the count helps, as well as the groove. Man, if you could do a cover/instruction of Shane & Shane’s Psalm 130, you’d kinda corner the market. It’s played with a sparse beat that I have trouble keeping track of. After listening, I realized thhaaat’s not 4/4, and my 6/8 muscle memory doesn’t fit either. This should help make sense of things...

6/8 is sooo much easier than 3/4, so much groovier. In fact, when I started out I could play a basic 6/8 beat before I nailed the standard 4/4 beat 😂😂
