Ah Acoustic treatment, the bane of all Sound Tech lecturers everywhere. When I taught it at college I had a right game on trying to explain it to my students. Everyone used to say the same thing "just put panels everywhere then there's no bouncing at all" We had a room set up like this and I used to make my students spend half an hour in there talking and using instruments. Most came out feeling anxious and on edge and some even came out feeling really nauseous. Its such an art acoustically treating a room and tailoring it to the specific room. You explained the basics in such a concise and digestible way you should be teaching at your local university!

Wow, thanks so much! What a compliment. I definitely don’t feel qualified but I appreciate you saying so nonetheless. That’s wild that students would actually have physical symptoms from being in a room like that. Amazing how our bodies were created to need that sonic interaction with the world.

@@JackofAllMinistries for real, sound and its behavior can have serious interactions with the mind and body. You get a similar result if you put someone in a soundless room. Very disturbing experience apparently you can hear your heart beat and the blood swishing through your body! Getting through your channel one video at a time, its great stuff!

So I live in a cheap apartment with thin walls. I work nights and sleep days. Is there away to cut down the noise by at least 50%

There is absolutely a way to do that, the question is whether or not you're willing to put in the work/money. I wish I could give you simple and concise advice, but there's no real way to do that. If you email me some details to jackofallministries@gmail.com I might be able to give you a few ideas if you're interested.

To mirror Jack its about money my friend how much do you want to spend and how much work do you want to do yourself. 50% is very achievable though with a bit of decoupling and a false wall. Its all about putting mass between you and the sound. Actually have a friend who put up a floor to ceiling book case on one of her party walls and filled it with to the brim books and she got a ridiculous cut in sound from the party wall!
