I agree that The riddler case is very easy especially for an ordinary real life detective. In the "thumb" drive batman found in the mayors parking garage, we can see some photos taken from a vantage point. Later in the movie it turns out that that vantage point is riddler's home. Detectives usually check those vantage points of photos for any clues. The idea is that, they want to catch riddler, they dont know where the riddler is but they at least know riddler was there at the location of the vantage point as riddler had to physically be there to take those photos. So maybe they might find some clues, small clues or big clues, finger prints or hair, or DNA samples or maybe they will find no clues and its a deadend. Anything is possible. The only way to find out is to investigate it and its worth a shot especially considering there are no other leads. Once they do that game over they caught the riddelr and 90% of the movie would not have happen as riddler lives there. Also the only reason riddler succeeded in flooding Gotham is Batman does not know what a carpet tucker is and by the time he learn what it is from the policeman its too late. real live average detectives would know what a carpet tucker is and thus be able to find the bombs and save gotham from flooding AND they would have caught the riddler throught the photos in the "thumb drive" Basically because Batman is a bad detective, the movie is 3 hours long, if he were a good one he would have solved it so fast that the movie would only be 30 minutes long lol.

@@excellence5144 I agree. I felt like Matt Reeves is not competent enough to write a clever story as it very difficult to do so, so he made it easy for himself by reducing the challenge. Reducing the challenge of the riddles or making batman stupid so riddler can succeed in flooding gotham. He could tell a story which is much more clever, the riddles are difficult to solve, the challenge is greater both for batman and riddler as both are intelligent characters so it should be difficult to outsmart eachother thus producing an better clever story but I guess thats too difficult for him come up with so he made it easy for himself with easy riddlers, batman not being smart enough thus producing a poor written story.

I think they should’ve nameed this movie Batman, the whisper! Because everybody in this damn movie is whispering through the entire film. I kind of enjoyed it as much as it gets annoying. It’s a good movie, but is a little exaggerated about it’s greatness. I would’ve had a little bit more fighting in there and I would’ve had BATMAN doing a little bit more detective work instead of just standing around guessing stuff for the police when he could’ve actually been doing police work, like Chris Nolan’s Batman did. The fight scene in the beginning was just OK to me. It was kind of underwhelming. The only good thing about that scene was when he first walks in through the subway but when you hear him walking and you see him, his walk sounds more menacing, than his bodyweight actually looks . In other words, if the Ben Affleck Batman had walked out of that tunnel, I think all those guys would’ve shitted in their pants lol. Also, Ben Affleck had a better fight scene when he was saving Superman’s mother . Other than that the movie was fine.

While I appreciate your passion and depth of discussion, I disagree with most if not all of your points. Bruce Wayne IS the main character of this story and does get a lot of focus in what he does out of the costume. Him being a grim obsessed stalker of the night makes sense, since he hasn't created the public billionaire image yet and is still coping with the death of his parents. Matt Reeves wasn't out to make an origin movie for the character, he was out to make a young Batman who's still learning how to be a symbol of hope for Gotham and not just a vengeful creature of the night. That's the point of the movie. That Batman should inspire hope and not just vengeful violence. So your repeated claims of this film being pointless or without a cohesive story hold no ground. Your humor also felt really out of place in most areas and should be cut down in future reviews, as it took focus away from the points discussed. If you want to use those types of jokes, I'd save it for shorter videos.

I thought the movie was mediocre, not as great as people say it. I agree with you that the revelation was disappointing because the director still wanted the Riddler to be the main villain. To me, he was just another version of Nolan’s Joker with a different persona. And then the cliche bombing scene made the third act pointless. I noticed that this movie was heavily influenced by David Fincher’s work like Zodiac or Seven, but it lacked the suspense. Zodiac had me hooked every time even though it was mostly dialogue, but I didn’t feel the same way about The Batman. I liked the atmosphere and the cinematography, but in the end, it was just style over substance

I agree with alot of your points, the movie is way too long, the last third of the film just completely falls apart especially the end fight with the random internet guys, the part where batman does "the big heroic save" and it's just him helping a couple of people out of 2 feet of water yet it's played so dramatically, the riddler started out good but just ended up being a bad characterisation by the end of it, why would he just give himself up? Why is he recruiting Radom internet geeks to carry out his plan? Why does he even care about corruption in the first place? Cause he's an orphan? That's just stupid and it could have worked if they just changed a few things, the riddlers 2 biggest personality traits are his intellect and his rampant narcissism, he wants to prove that he's smarter and better than every body else so just have his motivation be that he wants to prove he can do Batman's job better than batman can, he can take out the real criminals of the city who batman can't touch and he can get away with it while taunting batman the whole time, it makes no sense that he would want to team up with Batman. Also one thing you missed that really bugged me about the movie, why is everyone in it always whispering? Almost no one in the film talks normally to each other

I had never really caught onto the fact that this film does offer VERY little context for Batman and why he is how he is. It is like this film ASSUMES that you've seen Batman Begins, or read Batman Year One...and automatically assume that you know Batman's origin, why he fights crime and why he became Batman specifically. It's quite odd. It's like this is the sequel to an origin story we never got to see.

Well said. Lol. Most of us know a lot about Batman already, so why make a Batman movie at all. Like they don't have to explain the important parts to a story and then use you should know all this already. That's not good storytelling. If they didn't waste so much time, pick up the pace, within a 3 hour movie, they can fully explain things. This movie felt like a mini series. Plus, it felt incomplete. Batman never tackled his fear of heights, never learned how to properly glide, never upgrade his Batmobile that stalled on him, never learned any advanced fighting skills after getting his butt kicked for 2 years, and we never got to see his Bruce persona more active in Gotham towards the end of the movie. Oh, we will get all that in the second movie. Nope! That's now how things work. If your 1st movie sucked, then you might not get a second movie. Plus, whatever made the 1st movie successful is what they will use to make the 2nd, and 3rd movie successful. Because if they change everything about The Batman and make him more fantastical, then the core fans are going hate it. So, we will not get more Bruce in the next two movies... watch! Just my take. Yet, I can say, I never fell asleep watching the Batman. Never! It did not feel like 3 hours at all to me. If people loved the movie, then good for them. Yet, I wanted way more than this. Again, just my take.

I agree with some critics and disagree with others for one movie, and the next movie may be vice versa, or not. That's how that works. I'm not going to agree with everyone and we can both be right within in our differences about the same subject, or both be wrong. BUT this guy just has missed so much of what this movie is going for and passes it off as being bored when really his critique is that the story wasn't spoon fed to him thru 2 hours of exposition and narration. And if we're looking at metacritic most of the favorable reviews were in the 80's and above. People who liked this movie REALLY liked it, and then there are people who hated and/or didnt care about it and who's main critiques are "not fun enough" which sure this I can at least see from other people's perspective. This isn't a "fun" movie. Its stressful and gnawing and grim. Its about trauma and people's ability and inability to grow past it, how society fails its children and how the children move forward from there; with vengeance or with hope? Can things change if we ourselves don't, and is violence the only option against the wave of rampant crime? This is what I gathered from this movie. It's so funny that he critiques the movie for not having more action scenes and then also is like "I'm glad this movie shows that crime and violence is bad, because the i think the woke mob thinks differently," when a point of the movie is that Batman being EXCLUSIVELY and INDISCRIMINATELY violent to criminals hurts victims as well and isn't helping Gotham. I liked the movie for its messaging, but i also see that the pacing was sometimes off and that the Riddles were easy, but I liked the Riddler's performance still and am glad that he'll likely come back later. This movie is far from perfect and I would definitely stray away from calling a Masterpiece overall, definitely a really good 7 or 8 to me, but I rate things pretty harshly (my 5/10 is a fair and alright movie, like most of the MCU's movies), and I'm 100% biased in my opinions for things, especially as it pertains to art, but I at least try to see where other people come from or see what a director or writer were trying to do. I think Matt Reeves does a really good job here with handling the growth of a "younger" and still traumatized and insecure Bruce Wayne. I think Excellence really missed what the movie was going for and from what I can tell, even if we like the same movies, I don't see eye to eye with what he's pulling his joy or his critiques from.

The script is a 7/10. Overall a good 8.

That is always the downside to going back to the well so many times. There are only so many interpretations that one can give before the core of the character is completely betrayed or outright abandoned, defeating the purpose of a corporation holding onto a copyright for so long. If they have to change a character from top to bottom to keep them fresh, then they need not have gone to court to change the law so they could extend their copyright exclusivity for roughly one century per intellectual property. Not only will this come across as "The Dark Knight but lesser in every respect", there will likely be a few more like it before Batman lapses into the Public Domain.

I respectfully disagree. As a batman fan I can honestly say that this film is exactly what I wanted from a batman film.and the fiddler is a really integral part of the film as well as the point he's trying to make (that he's a nobody and everyone just forgot about him and that only people care about people with power) he's a damaged genius who wants attention as shown in the interrogation scene in arkham. You also assume that Falcone killed the Wayne's which is wrong, since alfred says it could have been anyone. And Falcone should not be a villain in a batman film, he isn't big enough a threat as the rest of batman's rogues gallery. And the point they made pattinson batman for the entire movie is to show, and he'll probably build up the bruce wayne persona in the sequel.

These are writers / directors adaptations on these heroes Just like comics there is various takes on our beloved superheroes out there and we can either take them or leave them when is fine … This gentleman producing this video has his take on “what he wants in a superhero movie “ some of yall will agree and some of yall will not plain and simple I’m in the middle because I enjoy seeing different takes on our heroes as long as it’s good take on them and not crap Also side note …. I thought the movie was bad, but not awful. Great elements like the cinematography, the intro, it's well filmed. Things that were poor were dialogue, writing, plot (didn't ultimately make sense), we don't need to see Bruce Wayne on a 15 minute slow walk through a club to talk to Falcone, some of it just felt like a long Nirvana video.

Personally I’d say it’s the 3rd best Batman movie. My list is: 1. The Dark Knight 2. Batman Begins 3. The Batman 4. The Dark Knight Rises 5. Batman 6. Batman: The Movie 7. Batman Returns 8. Dawn of Justice 9. Batman Forever 10. Batman and Robin The Batman excelled on story, acting, atmosphere and music. I like that Batman made mistakes (eg. not checking where the photos could have been taken). There was stuff I didn’t like such as Bruce Wayne being an emo who doesn’t consider Alfred his father (doing something different isn’t inherently bad or good but it needs to be done well), Bruce and Alfred didn’t have enough scenes, I don’t think Batman’s arc of realising he needed to be more than vengeance was done well, the “we don’t all work for you” scene was awesome but there’s not enough set up and it feels that it comes out of nowhere. Overall it’s still a strong 8/10.

Would made since if they made him Hush and that would've worked brilliantly if that's what they did. It has interesting ideas. There's a lot I like. Loved the portrayal of Gotham. Most of my problems is the twist and third act. I'm still interested to see what they do in the second movie.

I agree with this almost entirely. This is the most boring superhero film I've ever seen, but it is one of the most beautiful at the same time. Scenes are shot incredibly well but drone on way too long. Characters are miscast (catwoman, Falcone, Gordon, the Riddler, and Gollum, I mean Alfred GTFO), and I don't go to see a superhero film to be preached to by a racist about my non-existent white privilege. It's supposed to be escapism, something that millennials, for some reason since 9/11 do not understand. It's no wonder the reviews on this film are so mixed. That being said I do like Pattinson as Batman. It's just not a good film.

In addition the movie was “deconstructing “ our hero. Showing that he is NOT a good detective, that he is as mentally ill as the criminals he puts away - the fact that they wanted me to eat a spoonful of shit into believing Batman created the Riddler due to his own vigilantism but the difference is that Batman can cause uhhh his is rich and the riddler was bad cause he grew up as poor version of Bruce Wayne. GTFO. That if ONLY ppl grew up the same as Batman they wouldn’t have resorted to a twisted sense of morality. Then they had to have Batman have this moment of clarity to where he has to be a beacon of shining light for humanity not punch his way through his vengeance and trauma. We have a beacon of light, the voice of goodness and boyscout super heros and his name is Superman.

The moment i hear your voice, i was like "this is exactly what i expected" You miss so many points of the movie, and thats either because you dont get it, or yoh get some other idea instead. Movie is partly to blame, yes, but when you upload 40 mins video of misunderstanding the movie, it's mainly on you I'll just do 1 example, so it wont be a long essay. You saying the ending is just batman drifting away from selina is a representation of him choosing gotham over his own happiness. Remember she asks him to tag along to bludhaven. But he chooses to deal with half-flooded gotham, going to the call from the batsignal, but with different mindset now. He now sees that batman can be a hero, which is what he is in case people think he's some vigilante working in the shadow. Thats progression, closed by a definite conclusion. That ending signifies the 1st step of his journey as a hero, instead of a crusade of vengeance that he's been on for 2 years d calling it "i guess thats it" is

Batman Begins was a perfect origin story and as a movie 8/10. The Dark Knight was a flawless movie, 10/10, best superhero movie every made. Rises was a bit of a let down but it was still great 8/10. I agree with your take on the movie, but your socio-political analysis at the end is laughably immature, superficial and uninformed. Yeah, so "divisive" to expose power structures and illegitimate hierarchies that negatively affect the lives of millions. I guess slaves working the fields, women marrying their rapist and kids working the mines should never have opened their stupid mouth - it's so divisive after all. Everyone knows that the status quo is always the best form of social organisation a civilization can achieve. Moreover, I wonder why there was so many riots, civil unrest and massacres in colonial North America right until the War of Independence. Here I thought we all *knew* how bad civil disobedience was, as naively referenced in your video? Then how come everyone cheered at the end of Star Wars when the Death Star explodes I wonder? Because of CONTEXT, which you completely missed at the end there. Whether you can see it or not, an overwhelming majority of people support *justified* uprisings and revolts. This is just common sense. It's simple, Civil Rights/Equality/Anti-discrimination movements = Justified and legitimate. On the other hand, Jan6/Brazil insurrection, Charlottesville march = NOT justified and illegitimate. Don't ask me, ask history books. So all in all, that ending was a big case of "Tell me you have no college degree without telling me you have no college degree." I recommend you keep doing KZitem videos for the foreseeable future. Cheers.

I agree with everything u said: my experience watching that movie is that the plot is predictable and dull the chase sequences is laughable like the penguin car chase scene like he waited in the batmobile for penguin to get into his car instead of taking him down just little shit like that it felt like a 5 hr movie there was barely a story and nobody wants to bring up the race swap Jim Gordon but wanna claim this Se7en dark knight rip off is comic book accurate lmfao u can't take these stand seriously yeah I'm seeing it to how ppl calling this trash a masterpiece it was too depressing I only disagree with you on saying that this trash is better then the dark knight u trippin' shit tried to copy off a ledger's joker but did it badly and it's just the same villains that we've already seen before batman rouge gallery is huge but all we're stuck with different versions of ledger's joker, penguin (that was better in batman returns) riddler (that was more comic book accurate from Jim Carrey version) the dark, gritty realistic approach that the dark knight trilogy introduce has been a plague to DC movies since the trilogy ended all we're getting is leftovers why not introduce batman who laughs since Patterson crowl is too wide it's bad enough he's too skinny for the role in the first place and clearly didn't exercise. the ending also made no sense it felt like a parody how riddler that just a Se7en clone and "joker" laugh together as if the script was copied from mad tv and Adam west Batman terrible sequel bate. I hate the actress that played "Catwoman" in this movie especially with her wearing all of them colorful wings like some kind of clown and having zero chemistry with Patterson I've seen better on screen chemistry with Anne Hathaway/ bale and even Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer I love that ppl trying to say that this garbage is better than tdk trilogy despite the fact that this movie is heavily influenced by the tdk trilogy from the style, the approach, and the tone Patterson even got his batman voice from bale's batman begins teaser trailer nothing about the movie is original and I hated the theme as well and is it just me that that thinks reeves tried way to hard to make Bruce Wayne look gothic and how whinnying he was and also the same persona there's literally zero differences between Bruce Wayne and batman and the simple fact that this garbage is considered detective work when I seen better detective work in the dark knight when Bale batman was analyzing the bullets from the crime scenes and even had the detective vision like in the Arkham games the clues in this movie was extremely amateurish u can figure them out in seconds

Finally, someone else that gets it. I also have been sick and tired of people hyping this new movie, and then some folks actually have the audacity to compare it to all the previous movies, some even saying that somehow its just way better than all the others before it, when the reality is that they’re just blind and not being analytical about the movie. Like you I was also interested when the movie started, and they started doing some actual investigative police work, it gave me the impression that it was going to be one of those crime drama movies, where you would be able to see how Batman fully worked, and maybe even be given the chance to solve the crimes and mysteries alongside him, as clues and leads were provided during the film, but we all know that the movie did not become that type of film. I found it extremely frustrating, that they kept saying within the movie how this Batman was so smart, and how he was such good help to the police, where Jim Gordon actually had him interfere with investigations and stuff, when in all the things that I saw during the film, they never fully demonstrated that, whenever there were riddles and that kind of stuff, this Batman pulled stuff out of his ass and never explained how he even got to those answers, all in the name of just moving the movie forward making it very unnatural, and then the super cringy scenes, such as the ones with the thumb drive or the URL one had me wanting to quit the movie, because I can’t believe they thought they could get away with such puns, that just made Jim Gordon look like a total dumbass, when he’s supposed to be a good cop that knows a lot, which is why Batman trusts him with his back, which is another thing I hated about this film, this movie is supposed to be pretty much Batman after his initial years in Gotham, so he’s supposed to be a total noob and it was shown somewhat, but if that’s the case then how come he’s all chummy with Gordon, they acted like if they were partners in a buddy cop movie, but Batman hasn’t been around for that long, so it feels like its really undeserved and out of place, they should have made it that he actually wins Gordon’s trust during the movie, it would have felt more natural and not out of place. I also didn’t like how Batman pretty much behaved, like just some random guy in the street with a costume, because of how he was always walking around and being super loud, just like in the fight scene with the thugs where he actually walked up to them and said he was vengeance, and then later in the club scene with the Penguin, he actually knocked on the door for the club expecting to be let in, when he’s supposed to know because its common sense, that they weren’t just going to let a vigilante in like that. Then there was the characterization, I know that Batman is supposed to do a lot of brooding, and he’s supposed to be the guy that always says that he works alone and that kind of stuff, but damn this has to be like the most depressing version of Batman I have seen so far, and not only that but he was an asshole to boot too, mainly because of the way how he treated Alfred like garbage, the one man who was always there for him, and during the whole movie was actually trying to be supportive of him, but when he gets blown up and ends up at a hospital bed, this Batman actually mistreats Alfred with the first thing he does, after his butler was waking up from a near death experience, he actually tells Alfred that he’s a freaking liar and starts a big fight, instead of the first thing being showing concern for his dear father figure. Then there was how he was basically pushed around and used by basically everyone, because Jim Gordon used Batman for all the investigations, Catwoman used Batman multiple times in the movie, and even the Riddler was basically playing with him like a Fiddle, when Batman should have been smarter than that and should have known better than to trust people, especially when some of those people are villains, and he even gave his important gear to Catwoman and even made her a big accomplice in a part of his investigations, where his only lead depended on a complete stranger, that he basically just met who had previously gotten him in trouble with thugs, and then he actually acts surprised when she doesn’t act as part of the plan and goes rogue, like Batman is not supposed to be this naïve or dumb even if he’s supposed to be a noob at being Batman, it was only almost at the end of the movie where he actually started acting like a Batman should. The last thing in regards to the movie I would say has to do with the actors they chose, the only ones that were truly decent had been Alfred and the Penguin, because everyone else looked either overacted or underacted, and they didn’t even fit the character’s image itself, Robert Pattinson was super out of shape instead of being in peak human condition as a Batman in his prime would have been, Selina Kyle didn’t look like the bombshell lady she should have been, in almost all of the interpretations of Catwoman, she’s supposed to be one of the sexiest ladies around, which is one of the reasons she’s able to get away with so much, since she uses seduction as one of her strongest skillsets, but the actor wasn’t able to convey any of that since she just looked like your average lady, and then for me Jim Gordon didn’t look like Jim Gordon, he just looked more like a Baxter Stockman from TMNT, and he was basically Batman’s sidekick or partner instead of being the actual police commissioner. The movie just has too many flaws, and I find it unacceptable, because they had so many previous films, or even the animated series from which there are many of them out there, for them to take a look at for reference but they still made so many mistakes and delivered such a poor-quality film. All the previous Batman films have been pretty memorable, all of the Nolan movies have very quotable lines, but I always have to think pretty hard regarding this last film because it is pretty forgettable.

I want to watch this again paying more attention, but I am genuinely impressed. I appreciate that for a younger guy you have really made the effort to watch and study genuinely brilliant films going back 60 years or so. Analyzing the film from so many angles ranging from length to undertones is how this should be done. Especially character development as they lazily go right into "you know who Bruce Wayne/Batman is" and do zero character development outside of scowling and looking emo. Never did this feel like a mentally scarred billionaire with subtext masked as a reclusive playboy. Offhand I simply feel "super hero films" are largely terrible outside of a few exceptions like Donner's Superman and Nolans Dark Knight Trilogy. And I am someone who is an absolute devotee of Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns", "Year One", "Born Again" as well as Alan Moore's "Watchmen" and "Swamp Thing". The problem with films, especially today where legitimate larger than life "movie stars" like Eastwood and McQueen no longer exist, it is even more difficult to translate the fantastical to film. I absolutely love most of Warner/DCs animated films but loathe live action. The recent deluge of superhero movies feel hollow and like theme parks. Even moreso with the Marvel "wisecrack" formula and DC "Darker grittier" mould. Add in the need to meet modern elitist agendas like race swapping, female empowerment and "non-toxic masculinity"? Just an effort to watch
